The Model
Smile
Clouds were creeping lazily along the bright blue sky and the sun tickeled my nose. A single butterfly landed on a little daisy in front of me. It's colorful wings shimmered in the light. I smiled. All was so beautiful. It felt so real.
"Do you like it?" The voice startled me and I turnt around to see those blue orbs again. Sparkling in the sun, but broken and lost in their depths. He obviously waited for an answer so I tried to use my voice. "I don't know..." It was a quiet whisper because despite the beautiful scenery he carried this circle of coldness with him. Despite the bright day he looked dark and worn out. He seemed to be broken himself.
"You created it, you should like it", he softly spoke.
That was the moment I gathered all my strength and courage to ask the question that all the other questions running through my mind lead to. "Who... Who are you?" His gaze fell on the green carpet of grass beneath us. "I am lost. My name is nothing but a shallow sound my mother and father once associated with me." His voice cracked and it was obvious he did not want to tell me his name. His choice of words struck me in some kind of way. He seemed too... Modern to talk like that.
"Since you asked me a question, it is time for me to ask you one. Will you help me?" His blue gaze met mine again and the desperation that it sent out almost caused me to cry. If I really was going crazy, and if this imaginary boy really needed my help that bad, I should help him in this imaginary world. If that meant, I would finally be able to sleep again, I would take the opportunity right away.
"Will you stay out of my dreams?", I asked with a shaky voice. He lifted the healthy corner of his mouth, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"If you say yes, we will have to meet in person one day, because now I got your attention. There would be no need for me to haunt your dreams anymore." In person? So that meant this scary phase of my life was over if I was willing to help the spirits my mind created? "Alright", I whispered. The relief that rushed into his eyes was enormous. The left corner of his mouth turnt into a half smile and this time it reached his eyes. I almost thought he'd hug me but he didn't. Instead he breathed a relieved "Thank you so much!". A small smile flashed from my lips towards him. The last thing he said before disappearing was: "See you soon."
