A Demonic Love

Faith Will Find A Way

The dark sun rose in the sky and Andy still found himself sitting in the same spot on his couch, Lily asleep at the other end. He had watched her all night, unable to sleep himself and Andy found that he couldn’t leave her. Lily seemed to sleep restlessly, tossing and turning and crying out in her sleep, but Andy had no idea as to what he should do. How did humans comfort one another? It frustrated him that he had all of these new feelings cropping up inside him and yet Andy had no clue how to handle them. As the sun rose steadily in the sky, Andy knew what he had to do and with one last regretful look towards where Lily slept, he removed himself from the couch and left his apartment, locking the bolt behind him.

The streets were empty this early in the day, but Andy knew that Cal would be at the Record Building, probably with his long green nose stuck in some book. He had to figure out a way to get Lily back home-to give her a second chance at life. All night last night Andy couldn’t help but take in the scars that lined her white wrists. They looked so angry and it made his heart hurt just to see them. Why would she hurt herself like that? Andy had never seen a human inflict pain upon themself-it was always other people that humans seemed to go after.

Finally Andy made his way up the large stone steps, the huge oak doors of the Record Building staring back at him as he bit down on his lip ring and then reached to open the door. The building was silent, the only noise coming from Andy as his boots clicked against the stone floor as he headed towards the back. A small door stood in his way, ‘Record Demons Only’ blaring back at him but Andy just smirked as he pushed open the door and walked into the dimly lit room. Tables lined the walls while the fire in the wall sconces danced and Andy searched the room and finally his eyes came upon a lone figure, sitting off towards the back, his head resting against the book in front of him. Cal.

“Cal?” Andy kept his voice low as he approached his slumbering friend and shook his cloaked shoulder lightly. Cal seemed to wake, as his orange hair shook with his head as he grunted and rubbed at his eyes with the backs of his hands.

“Andy? What are you doing down here? What time is it?” Cal looked around, his eyes bleary as Andy sat on the edge of the table and looked down at his best friend. Cal always came down here when he was stressed out, saying he liked the quiet and he also came down here to get away from Lattie.

“I need your help and it’s still pretty early…you passed out down here again…” Andy laughed as Cal just shook his head, stretching his long green arms above him as he looked up at Andy. The slight Demon seemed troubled, his teeth grinding down on that ridiculous ring and Cal could only cock his head to one side as he took his best friend in.

“Help with what exactly?” Andy adverted his eyes, his hands fidgeting in his lap as Cal stared him down. How to word everything so that Andy wouldn’t give too much away?

“Well I was just wondering if you knew of any way to-um…get out of Hell and go to Earth…” He spoke the last part in a hushed tone, just in case someone was lurking behind a bookshelf. Andy took Cal in, seeing the other Demon open his eyes wide and lean back against his chair in disbelief.

“What?...why do you want to know about that Andrus?” Cal asked, his tone hushed but harsh all the same as Andy trained his eyes on Cal, wincing at the use of his once proper name.

“It’s Andy and I don’t know…curious I guess.” Andy looked down at Cal, his blue eyes shining persuasively as Cal thought for a moment and then rose. He walked to one of the huge book shelves and then returned, a large brown volume in his hands as he placed it on the table and began to flip through the pages.

“What has brought on this curiosity all of a sudden…Andy?” Cal asked without looking up from the book as he continued to turn pages. Finding a page, Cal stopped and looked up at Andy, his red eyes sad as he took in his best friend.

“I just am…just tell me Cal…” His patience was wearing thin as Andy looked down at Cal and then glanced at the book. One page held writing, while the opposite page held a picture depicting a small boat crossing a river, a cloaked figure rowing amongst the shriveled bodies that were floating beneath the boat and Andy felt his heart sink. The Death Pits.

“Yes Andy…you can tell from this picture that the only way is to travel down to the Death Pits. You would have to speak with the blind ferryman-Charon and hope that he would be fool enough to allow you to cross the River Styx. Once across-“ Cal stopped speaking as he flipped the page and there before them both was another picture depicting a three headed dog guarding a glowing doorway.

“-Cerberus…the guardian who keeps those in Hell where they belong. He was Hades personal pet when there were still Gods, but he has been relegated to guarding the door to Earth under the Lord’s reign.” Cal closed the book, the slamming of the tome making Andy jump as his blue eyes met Cal’s red ones.

“Is-is it possible to get past him?” Andy asked and Cal only looked up at his best friend, wondering silently what this was all about. Sighing, Cal ran a hand through his orange hair, pushing his bangs back from his forehead as he leaned back in his chair and took Andy in.

“Tell me what this is all about Andrus…” Cal said and Andy felt his anger grow. He wanted to keep Cal out of this as much as possible in case he was caught and then Cal couldn’t be implicated. It seemed-however-that Cal was going to be stubborn and insistent and so Andy knew he would have to tell him everything.

“First off-quit calling me Andrus. I’m not as Demonic as I once thought and I want to be called by something more fitting-Andy. Second, if I tell you this you have to promise to hear me out before you go running off to the High Council…” Andy folded his hands in his lap, his eyes wary as they looked down at Cal.

“Fine,Andy. I will listen to everything you have to say because we are best friends and I know you’re going through a lot since finding out about your true parentage…go on.” Cal held his hand out towards Andy, who inhaled deeply and thought for a moment.

“Yesterday I was given a new ward-a girl. I-I tried to do my duties…but after reading over her scroll and looking in to her eyes-“Andy stopped and looked down at his hands, the shaking in them was becoming distracting and so he placed them under his thighs as Cal motioned for him to continue.

“…I took her.” He finished quietly and Cal looked at him, his eyes confused as Andy bit down on his lower lip, his hands running through his hair in a nervous habit.

“What do you mean you ‘took her’? Where did you take her? Did you give her to another Demon…”Cal shot questions at him, but all Andy could do was shake his head sadly.

“She-she’s asleep on my couch. I want to send her back to Earth…” Andy jumped as he heard the loud smacking of Cal’s hands as they hit the wooden table top.

“Are you fucking insane?! Look Andy, I get that your true history may have addled your brain a bit, but you can’t just take humans as pets. You’re meant to punish them…not feel sorry for them.” Cal felt outraged as he looked at Andy and then realized that he was now involved, which made him even madder.

“Look she didn’t deserve to be tortured! She went through enough in her life and it’s stupid for her to even be sent to us in the first place since she did nothing wrong!” Andy tried to keep his voice low, but the anger still laced his words like a poison. Out of everyone, Andy had truly thought that Cal would understand.

“She was sent down here for a reason Andy…” Cal said, his tone calming as he looked around, hoping that no one could over hear them.

“A stupid, old world out dated reason!” Andy slammed his fist down on the table and Cal just stared up at him.

“What reason?” Cal asked and Andy pulled from his pocket Lily’s scroll that he had crumbled up. Andy handed it over, watching in silence as Cal read everything and then raised his eyebrows in shock.

“See…we have to help her. She didn’t want to die Cal-not really and there’s something about her…” Andy felt a blush creep up his neck at the thought of Lily and how peaceful and beautiful she looked while she slept.

“You-you have feelings for her…for the human.” Cal stopped at the last word, a look of distaste crossing his features and all of a sudden Andy felt like he wanted to sock his best friend in the mouth. There was nothing wrong with Lily…

“I do not! Dammit Cal are you going to help me with this or not?!” Andy asked, his face angry and his brows furrowed as he looked down at his best friend.

“Tell me this Andy-Are you going to go with her?” Cal asked and Andy leaned back at this question, his blue eyes wide as he thought about it. Would he? He had never known any other place besides Hell- but he was starting to think that maybe he didn’t fit in down here as much as he thought he did.

“I-I…no. No I wouldn’t go with her.” Andy decided, knowing that if Cal saw how unsure he was that Andy and Lily would never gain the Demon’s help.

“Good. Are you working today?” Cal asked as he leaned back, his arms coming to rest behind his head as he smirked up at Andy.

“No, no I’m off the clock for today…” Andy said, a small smile on his face as he thought about how he wanted to spend his day. With Lily, learning as much as he could about her life and being human.

“Is she pretty?” Cal asked suddenly and Andy felt himself blush as the two of them both stood and headed for the door.

“Well she’s human, so to you probably not. There’s something about her though…”Andy rubbed the back of his neck with a hand, his cold rings touching his skin and making him shiver.

“Don’t get attached Andy…not if you plan to send her home to Earth…” Cal warned as the two of them walked towards the door.

“I know…she’s just so different from any other girl I’ve ever seen…” His voice was distant as the two Demons exited the dark room, thinking that no one had been watching or listening to them.

A pair of bright red eyes peeked around the corner from behind the book shelf and after seeing that no one remained in the room the hiding place was no longer needed. How dare he fall for a human? How dare Andrus ward off affection for so long, only to be ensnared by a meager, filthy human. Her blood boiled as Lattie approached the table that her brother and that traitor had been seated at and she looked down at their book of reference. So, Andrus had planned on keeping the human and then send her back home, all the while probably intending to still vie for her affections? A sick smile twisted at her features as Lattie picked up the book and moved to place it back on the shelf.

No one would have Andrus if she couldn’t-especially not some worthless human who couldn’t even make her own life worth living, let alone try to please someone as great as Andrus. Lattie smiled as she exited the dank room, plans spinning in her head as she walked on and made her way down the street-heading straight for the Capital Building and the High Council.

Soon the human would be dealt with and then Andrus would be hers…all hers.

Notes

So Lattie is kind of-well-she's fucking insane and obsessed with Andy. Also I threw some Greek myths in there for you...so enjoy that.
