An Angels Last Fall

A Witch and some S'mores

There was a storm, the lights had gone out and it was pitch black in the house. Andy, Ashley, and I had set up camp in the living room and started telling scary stories. Some of the stories frightened me, I had never witnessed any of these but both Andy and Ashley seemed to laugh at these tales so I tried to stay calm.

“Your turn, babe.” Andy nudged me and placed a kiss on my forehead.

“To what?” I asked ignoring the word ‘babe’, even though it had been the first time he had ever called me that.

“To tell a scary story.” Ashley teased, taking a sip out of the beer bottle in his hands.

“Oh…” I scratched my head and tried to think of the stories the other watcher angels had told me. I smiled remembering something from a few hundred years ago. “A witch, granted powers by the devil himself, lived far from town, yet that was where her heart belonged. She wished every day that her lover would notice her, that he would love her the way she loved him. But the devil had other plans. He went to his daughter of the earth and told her of plans to turn a human into a demon for himself. She listened carefully and collected the items her master wanted. A night, a child, a marriage, and finally murder.” Both Andy and Ashley were engrossed in my story, Ashley had even set his bottle on the coffee table next to him. “Her master although, had not told her the whole truth. He promised that she would be rewarded with one night of passion with the one she loved the most. One night her lover came to her door, and without a word, took her. He left in the morning and was found with his throat split open. She cried for her lover, Lucifer took human form and comforted her. Nine months later she found herself with the child of that one night with the love of her life. The child grew, and the witch strayed from her magic. Lucifer knew this would happen and took her child away from her. A woman, not able to bear children of her own, stole the witch’s only love. She cried for her loss, for her master to help, but he ignored her pleas. What the witch would never know was that her lover had died hours before he laid with her. The devil took his form and laid with the witch himself, the child, although, married a harlot and bore no children, when his father called upon him he slain everyone in the town, giving blood to his father. He then went to his mother, but she had known, and fled, covered herself in a mist where no one would find her, to this day you can feel the presence of her whenever evil is near. Hoping, that one day, the evil would be the son that still searches to kill his mother’s soul.”

“Shit.” Ashley said, grabbing his beer and taking a large drink.

“Hey, uhm, is it alright if we sleep in the same room tonigh, Ashley?” Andy asked, receiving a laugh from both Ashley and I.

“I heard that story many years ago.” I said, standing to get a glass of water from the kitchen.

I knew the story was real, and had even sensed her presence a few times during my time on Earth. But they would brush this off like every other horror story of the devil that was told. I heard the doorbell ring and Ashley rushed to open it. Jake and Jinxx stepped inside and joined Andy on the floor after they had hugged, and said hello, to me.

“Ciarra just told this scary ass story about a witch.” Andy said nodding to me and hugging Jake tightly, “I’m scared now, can I have the nightlight on tonight, mommy?” He sounded like a 5 year old and it got laughs all around.

I sat back down next to Andy with my drink in hand. “Witches huh?” Jinxx asked me once I sad gotten situated.

There was something about him that I couldn’t lay my finger on, he wasn’t an Angel but it was something supernatural. I nodded sheepishly while everyone talked about their favorite horror movie. Jinxx didn’t take his eyes off of me, and I, him. It wasn’t anything to be fearful of, I just had a sense that he wanted to know what I was.

Andy finally took me out of my daze by planting a kiss on my cheek and holding me close to him with one arm. I smiled up at him and laid my head on his shoulder.

“You still have that homemade fire pit in the back yard?” Jake asked.

“Yeah, you got stuff for smore's?” Ashley asked.

Jake just stared at Ashley, like he had just insulted him. “No,” it was obviously sarcastic. Jake then slapped the back of Ashley’s head and stood to go out to his car.

Interacting with people in such a way as this made me happy to fall from Heaven, I would never have wished for anything more.
