An Angels Last Fall

One Hundred Dollars

Ciarra POV

“Morning,” Ashley grumbling, walking into the kitchen without a shirt on.

I smiled to him and handed him my glass of orange juice and shrugged. “Looks like you need it more than I do.”

He smiled, kissed my cheek, and took the glass back up stairs. I smiled back and poured myself another glass. I sat on the couch in the living room and turned the TV on, I was never told how to change channels so I stayed with the news. I sipped lightly on my juice as I heard shuffles coming toward me. Andy flopped beside me, laying his head in my lap and bringing his feet onto the couch.

I laughed and lifted my hands over him so he could lay. His hair was a mess and he was also half naked. “Good morning to you too.” I giggled, placing my cup on the coffee table next to me and resting my hand on Andy.

He looked up to me, his eyes half way open, a big smile on his face. “Morning,” his voice was groggy, but content.

“How did you sleep?” I asked, brushing a strand of hair from his face.

He shrugged and took the remote in his hands. “I slept.” He changed the channel a few times and finally set the remote back down. He turned onto his back to face me. He took a finger and glided it across my cheek. “What about you?”

I shrugged as he did. “I slept.” I mocked.

He chuckled and sat up, sighing as he did so. “I think we should go out for breakfast this morning. What do you think?”

His blue eyes pierced into mine. It had been a week since that first kiss, I had wanted to give him more, for him to give me more, but we stayed silent, and pretended to forget. I nodded and tucked my hair behind my ear.

“I think we should get ready first, and ask Ashley to come.” I smiled, clasping my hands and resting them in my lap.

“Of course!” He copied my moves.

I giggled and then just smiled as I stared at him. “I guess I’ll go get ready then.” I wanted to kiss his cheek as I stood, but something stopped me.

I looked back to see the smile had faded from his lips, he wanted to kiss me as well. I threw on a loose fitting blue t-shirt, a pair of faded jeans, and white shoes. I let my hair fall down my shoulders and put on a light layer of mascara. I heard a knock on my door frame and looked to see Andy dressed in his normal attire.

“Ready?” He asked.

I nodded, grabbing my phone and placing it in my back pocket. “Does Ashley want to come?” I asked when he led me out of the front door.

Andy shook his head. “He’s hung over and just wants to stay home.”

I nodded and proceeded to crawl into the passenger seat. We ate at my favorite café and, after some convincing, Andy took me on a walk down the street to buy anything that caught my eye. I had seen a smoothie shop that I had always begged Juliet to go to but it was far too many calories for her, whatever that meant. Without question Andy bought two smoothies. When he reached for his wallet a woman ran up to him, grabbed his wallet out of his hands, and ran away.

Andy ran after her, and I, after him, leaving our orders unpaid for. “Andy!” I yelled seeing the girl crossing the street.

Without hesitation, he ran after her. I was about to do the same when a car whizzed passed me. I looked again and saw I was clear. I got to Andy just in time to see him with wallet in hand and the woman on the floor. Andy also had his phone in his hand.

“Do you want me to call the cops? I really don’t fucking want to but nobody makes me run…ever.” His voice was not harsh, but, annoyed.

“Andy…” I said, out of breath. “Look at her.”

He looked to me, then back to her. “If you want a muffin or something all you gotta do is ask.” He put both his wallet and his phone in his back pockets. He knelt down. “Nobody makes me run.” He whispered.

The girl was terrified, her hair was shaved on one side of her head. She was skin and bones, her clothes were dirty and torn. She tried not to look at either of us in the eye.

Andy stood and came to my side. He asked if I was okay. “Yes, I’m fine but…” I looked to her.

She was still sitting on the ground, stunned. Andy sighed and turned back to her. “Here.” He said, reaching into his wallet. He pulled out a $100 bill and handed it to her. “I don’t expect you to have any change?” I knew he was joking but she didn’t break her face of the expression. “It was a joke.” He motioned for her to take the money. She lifted her hand and took a hold of it, but Andy didn’t let go. “Stop stealing alright? If you ask the right people they’ll give you what you need. And get yourself out of where you are. You’re better than that.” He smiled and finally let her take the money.

He stood and put a hand on my lower back to guide me back to the smoothie shop. I kept my head turned toward her but walked with Andy. When she just sat and stared at the money I finally turned to face where I was going.

“That was sweet.” I said, kissing his cheek once we had got into his car.

“No one would steal if they had what they needed.” He smiled to me and held my hand as he drove back home.

I wondered if I would ever get that chance to see her again. To help her, to show her what love feels like.
