An Angels Last Fall

Another night in a party house was leading to nowhere. I had sold half of my stuff to buy vending machine food. I was starving. Higher than cloud 13. And I’m pretty sure my hair was starting to fall out.

I walked down a busy street with my hands in my pockets. I had pocketed a pair of sunglasses to keep the sun out of my bloodshot eyes. I sniffed hard when I saw a women leave her purse unattended. She looked well off.

I looked behind both shoulders and made my way toward the purse. With a quick movement I had slipped a snake skin wallet out of her purse. I slid it into my jacket pocket and walked off. I had gotten away.

I turned a corner into an alley to inspect what I had stumbled upon. $300 in the whole thing, plus credit cards, and gift cards to all kinds of restaurants. I had really hit the jack pot with this one. I shoved everything I thought would be of value to me in my own pockets and tossed the wallet on the floor.

“That’s mine.” A high pitched, gravely women’s voice said from behind me.

I looked over my shoulder and saw a short women with even shorter blonde hair. She was skin and bones. No way was she going to be able to take me on. I snickered slightly and walked toward the fence that would soon be separating us. As I started to walk away from her, a pain in my arms and legs sent me to the ground.

I screamed out in pain. It felt like they were on fire and being broken at the same time. I looked back to the women who had her hands in fists. “I can make your life hell.” She laughed and threw her head back. “Or…” She released her hands and spread them out wide. “I can make you feel like a dream.”

All the pain was gone. I felt strong, the hang over and come down had disappeared. I felt like I was in the best shape and never got high or drunk a day in my life.

I looked to her in shock. She knelt down beside me and let her hands do what hands did. “How…” I questioned still sitting on the ground.

“How isn’t a part of the deal.” She smirked.

I cocked my head and narrowed my eye brows. “What deal?”

She stood back up and straightened herself. “You do something for me, and you will be rich, healthy, and powerful.”

I laughed hard, “yeah okay lady.” I stood up and a force immediately shoved me against the wall.

“You have two options. Give me my money back and go back to your little miserable life. Or…” The force released from my chest letting me take my body off of the wall. “You do a few simple tasks for me and I will give you everything you’ve ever dreamed of.” She got close to my face and tucked my hair behind my ear and gave me a sly smile. I stared at her blankly, knowing what I wanted. But at this point it felt like I was about to make a deal with the Devil. “I’m going to get what I want either way.” Her wallet appeared back in her hands. I checked my pockets to see that they were empty. “I would just rather have a partner. And you get some good stuff out of it too!” She squealed stuffing the wallet back in her purse.

I looked at the ground and sniffed hard, feeling the hang over return. My head started pounding all at once and I felt dizzy. “What are you?” I questioned putting a hand to my forehead.

“Someone who can make your life better.” She got close to the side of my face again. “Immortality is part of every deal I make.”

I backed away from her. I knew I was high from the next thought that came into my head. “How?”

“Have you heard of a war going on right under our nose?” She smiled. “I’m on the winning side.” She smiled big showing her teeth.

I knew this was going to be a bad idea… “What do I have to do?”
