A War Worth Fighting For

Raynes POV

We have been on the search for 2 weeks now and we always seem to be a step behind Balan. We took Troians advice and followed the active fault lines and it has worked. But we always seem to be a day to late. The blood is always fresh, more human bodies, not as badly decayed, and the stench of death and evil. The young demon prince is much smarter than we anticipated.
In turn, that means every few days there are more of the new breed of demons put on this earth. More people corrupted, more souls taken, and more death. We've recently found out that these creatures live off the flesh and blood of humans. Once the human is dead, the souls are kept in a crystal, and brought to the demons and succubi for safe keeping. The more souls Balan and his crew collect, the more powerful they become and the closer they get to taking over Hell. Once that happens, we can kiss our asses and earth goodbye.
"Rayne! Look below." Ash points to a spot on the ground. I look through the trees and see a small human walking through the forest.
"What is he doing out here, walking alone this far into the woods? I'm gunna head down, keep your links open. Im going to put my wings away."
I defend a few yards away from the man, watching him closely from behind a tree. He is small, can't be much bigger in size than CC, just shorter. once my wings are away I step out making a bit of noise to get his attention. Thankfully I wore jeans and boots with my tank top today instead of my armor.
"Who's there?" He turned quickly and I fake startled.
"Holy shit you scared me. I thought I was the only one who hiked these woods." wow, that didn't sound convincing. I really suck at lying.
"Well obviously not. What's a lady like you doing all alone out here?"
"A lady like me? What's that supposed to mean?"
"Nothing really, it's just a dense forest, no one ever comes out this way..uh..except me."
ok, he's a bad liar too, "Well, I hate how busy the trails get, and it's my only day off from work this week, so I figurednid get some peace and quiet on a nature hike."
"I'm Wesley, but you can call me Wes." He was right in front of me now holding out his hand. I took in a quick deep breath, and smelled nothing evil on him.
"I'm Jenna, good to meet you." I take his hand a feel a spark of power.
"Shit, you're and Angel. Help me, Balan is close!"
Jinxx and Ash drop from the sky, both grabbing Wes, I stretch and my wings unfold. "We need to get him to the house! Wes, where is Balan?"
"There is an old Rangers outpost about a mile west. They are there."
"Ok, your safe now Wes. They'll take you somewhere safe. Ash, Jinxx, go."
I watch as they take off, Jinxx looking over his shoulder. I can hear Andy through the mind link. Jake, CC, and him plus the other 3 warriors are close. I mask myself and wait.
"RAYNE!!! I know you are out here, show yourself!
Balan...Shit.

Sorry for such a long wait and sorry it's so short. Been in and out of he hospital with my girls. They been sick with nasty colds and this entirovirus crap makes me nervous.
