HEART OF FIRE

Sophie doubted she would ever forget her day at Six Flags with Andy. It was probably the most memorable day of her life. The rest of the following week was pretty good too. College was going really well and Mrs Millers had announced on Monday that they were going to do a Dance production of Alice in Wonderland which would also require some singing. Sophie auditioned for the roles of Alice, the Cheshire Cat and the Queen of Hearts. On Wednesday Mrs Millers announced who would be playing what part and Sophie was delighted when Mrs Millers announced her for the role of Alice. She spent Tuesday afternoon after College at the Mall with Andy and every night before they both went to sleep they were always texting.

Unfortunately, when Friday arrived… everything changed. Friday she didn’t have College … just Dance Troup at 6pm. Sophie usually used this day to relax, read a book, go in the pool and sunbathe… stuff like that. As was usual for her now in a morning, she checked her phone to see if she had any messages… and to her surprise she had two. One of course was from Andy.

Morning Soph, I know you have today off and guess what?! So do I!! Fancy meeting up at Costa?? Xx

Sophie smiled and answered…

Sure thing I didn’t exactly have anything planned anyway xx

Then she looked at her second message. It was from an unknown number.

Guess what darling… I’m out and I’m coming to get you ;)

Sophie dropped her phone in shock and it rolled off her bed. She knew exactly who that was off and she cursed herself for forgetting what today was. Her phone buzzed due to Andy texting back. She picked it back up to answer him.

What do you mean by exactly? If you had other plans then go do whatever that was. Xx

No it’s just Friday is my day for doing nothing normally but I don’t mind I’d like to see you again but… something has happened and …

Sophie dropped her phone again and burst into tears. She was so scared she couldn’t leave the house… she didn’t want to go through that horror again.

Andy replied…

What has happened? Is everything okay?

Sophie couldn’t bring herself to answer. Andy messaged again…

Soph u there? What’s going on?

She still didn’t answer. Her phone vibrated again and her ringtone started playing. Andy was calling her. She couldn’t ignore him.

“Hello? Soph? What’s going on are you okay?”

More tears fell and Andy could hear her crying.

“What’s happened? Please talk to me Soph…”

“305 North Tigertail Road Brentwood… it’s my address I can’t leave the house… please.”

“I’m on my way.” And the phone went dead. Sophie curled up into a ball and cried till she ended up falling asleep.

When she woke, the first thing she saw was the clock on her bedside table, it had said 09:15 when she last saw it and now it read 11:00. The second thing she saw was Andy. He was sat on the end of her bed, engrossed in his phone.

“A-Andy…”

“Sophie!” Andy pocketed his phone and crawled over to her, “how are you feeling?”

“Okay… what are you doing here?”

“You asked me to come round remember… you were crying. I got here and your mom answered the door. She said you were still in bed as far as she was aware and I told her we had been on the phone only 20 minutes before so she let me come up and you were curled up in a ball and your pillow was soaked.”

Sophie then remembered why she’d called Andy over in the first place and she burst into tears again. Andy lay beside her and pulled her close to him.

“Shh Soph I’m here, what’s going on? What’s got you so upset?”

Sophie grabbed her phone and showed Andy the message. She could have sworn she heard Andy growl.

“Do you have any idea who sent this?”

“Yes… my ex Jonathon. He was released from jail today after serving a 2 year sentence.”

Andy gasped, “What was he in there for?”

Sophie began to cry even more.

“Did he hurt you?”

All she could do was nod. This time she definitely heard a growl come from deep in Andy’s throat.

Andy pulled Sophie closer to him protectively. He didn’t want anything to happen to her. He cared way too much for her and the last thing he wanted was to see her hurt.

“It wasn’t just me though,” Sophie said “He did the same thing to 4 other girls…”

“Gosh Sophie I don’t know what to say…”

“It’s okay Andy you don’t have to say anything, just hold me… that’s all I ask.”

“I won’t let go till you say,” Andy promised and kissed her forehead.

Sophie felt herself go bright and buried her face in Andy’s chest and she felt herself go all warm and fuzzy inside. She suddenly didn’t feel so scared or upset anymore… she felt safe and secure in Andy’s arms… and loved. She lifted her head up and her light blue eyes met Andy’s deeper blue ones.

“Andy I…”

“Yes?”

Slowly their faces got closer and closer

“I…”

“Shh…”

And their lips met.
