Love And Other Drugs

Starting Anew

Andy looked around him, in awe of the digs that Luxe had gotten for herself. She had moved her things out of his place before he had returned home from tour, which had been sad to come home to but was completely necessary. Now she was living in her own place, under her own name and Andy was proud of his friend. He was also slightly jealous of her-Luxe had been able to make something of herself and had a really nice home while he was still too stubborn to move out of his condo. Looking around, Andy's eyes landed on the small glass doored cabinet in the corner and he smiled as he looked at the few awards that were in there.

A few Kerrang awards and of course the Best Vocalist Award that Luxe had won a little over a week ago. She had beaten him this year, but it was okay because Andy knew it was something that Luxe needed. Watching her walk up to that stage to applause and minimal jeers had been a wonderful thing. And to hear her acceptance speech had brought tears to his eyes. She had thanked him, among others, but she had called him out for supporting her and being there for her no matter what.

Later that night, instead of going to the after party and drinking it up with people in the industry, Andy, Luxe, the Dolls and BVB all walked down the street to a dingy pizza place and watched a basketball game. They ate greasy pizza and drank cheap beer or water and while it wasn't glamorous or rock and roll, the group still had a blast.

Andy had walked Luxe to her door and that had been when she invited him over for dinner. They needed to catch up and talk about some things-a part of her sobriety that Luxe was currently working on. Andy had agreed, which was why he was currently sitting on her couch, looking around the room.

The living room, which sat right beside the kitchen and at the front of the house, was done in cool blue tones, with a black leather couch and a sky blue accent wall. It was very calming and serene-it was very Luxe. She was in the kitchen, making them dinner, which Andy was worried about because his experiences with Luxe's food had been hit or miss. As he sat there and thought about their time living together, Andy couldn't help but feel sad.

There had been problems and secrets of course, but seeing Luxe every morning in her pj's with her hair a mess had been some of the best times of his life. He truly missed her and could only secretly hope that perhaps this was a start of something. Andy looked around, seeing Feather prancing around the house and he felt sad. Crow had been home alone for so long while he had been gone and Andy knew it wasn't fair for him to separate the siblings.

"Why so serious?" Someone asked and Andy nearly jumped as he focused his eyes and realized that Luxe was standing right in front of him. She had on a comfy pair of black yoga pants and Andy smiled as he noticed her t-shirt had his face on it.

"Sorry, just getting lost in some thoughts..." He said and then watched as Luxe sat down, handing him a glass. Andy took a sip and smiled-lemonade, something he rarely drank for himself but Luxe seemed to remember that he liked it.

"Oh. Like how I beat your ass out for that lovely new Award sitting in my case?" She smirked at him over the rim of her glass and Andy only laughed. He brushed his newly shorn and dark blonde hair out of his eyes and looked at Luxe.

"Yeah, yeah. Next year I'll have it in the bag..." Andy said and they both shared in a laugh. The air was filling with something delicious smelling and Andy couldn't help but turn his head towards the kitchen.

"It's roast chicken. Don't worry...I've been practicing." Luxe said and Andy only smiled as he set his glass on the wooden coffee table in front of him and then did something neither of them was expecting.

Andy quickly reached down, placing one hand on each of her ankles and soon enough Luxe's feet were resting in his lap.

"Oh yeah? I remember you being such a pro at ordering take out." He teased and Luxe could only stick her tongue out at him before letting her eyes come to rest on her feet and their placement.

"Well living on my own and being sober has given me a sense of actually being an adult." Luxe explained and caught Andy's eye. An uncomfortable silence spread over the room like a cloud, but they were both thinking the same thing.

Andy had been her enabler. He hadn't bought the drugs or alcohol for her, but he had never really confronted her about her problems either. Andy could be a confrontational person when he needed to be, but when it came to people he loved-when it came to Luxe-he was spineless.

He had babied her, carrying her to bed every night when she passed out on the couch in a drunken or high stupor and he had made excuses for her on social media. The fans weren't stupid and they could tell that something had been going on when Luxe and the other girls could barely perform, but Andy had defended the band and that had been wrong.

Now that Luxe was on her own and sober, she was responsible for herself in so many ways. At Andy's they'd had a cleaning women come in every other day and clean the house while the two musicians spent time doing other things. They had a car service drive them around-provided by Alex-so they could do what they wanted. Once Luxe really saw all that was going on, she knew that she needed to be independent.

She had a cleaning woman, but Klara only came once a month and did some of the more in depth cleaning. Luxe cleaned her house by herself every Sunday and she had found that she really liked it. She also really loved driving herself around and indulged in a brand new cherry red Mustang.

"You know I'm really proud of you Luce..." Andy said, breaking the silence and the tension.

"I know-you tell me every time you text me good night." Luxe said and they both smiled at one another shyly. They had started texting one another at night, even if they were busy, to say good night. It was weird from an outside perspective because they were broken up, but Luxe and Andy couldn't deny their feelings for one another.

"Well I feel guilty and want to make up for it." Andy said and Luxe only looked at him. Somewhere in the house a timer was going off and Luxe's eyes grew wide as she sat up and then headed towards the kitchen.

Andy was right behind her, taking a seat at the bar as he watched her take a small golden skinned chicken out of the oven. It smelled wonderful...it smelled like home.

"What could you possibly feel guilty about Andy?" Luxe asked as she placed the chicken on the counter and then turned to a pot of mashed potatoes. Andy thought about his answer as he watched her add in butter and a few splashes of cream before stirring.

"I wasn't really there for you this past year Luce. I was too wrapped up in my own album and my own ego to notice that you were in trouble." He explained and Luxe finally looked up at him, her grey eyes filled with sadness.

"You were busy." She said as she finished the potatoes and then moved to gather plates and silverware. Andy watched her move around in silence as Luxe set the small kitchen table for two before she turned to face him.

"I was, but I loved you-I still do-and sometimes I get stuck in my own head. That's why I suck at relationships." Andy said, feeling sorry for himself. Suddenly Luxe was in front of him, spinning the seat he was in until he was facing her.

"You do not. You were a wonderful and loving boyfriend. The circumstances of our lives just got in the way..." She said and Andy only smiled and gently placed a hand on either side of her waist. It felt good to hold her like this again-it felt good being around Luxe in general.

"When did you get so smart?" He joked and Luxe only laughed, tossing her head back so that her neck was exposed. What he wouldn't give to just reach out and kiss her skin.

"When I got sober enough to realize how fucking stupid I was being. Come on...dinner's ready." She said to him and then she was gone and across the room.

He had lost his chance and Andy was kicking himself as he rose from his seat.

Everything looked delicious and as Andy heaped a pile of potatoes on his plate and then took the few pieces of chicken from Luxe, he knew things were different. The two of them had been through a lot-being forced together, hating one another, coming together as friends and then being together as lovers. It had all ended so quickly and Andy had completely shut himself off when it came to Luxe getting sober.

Ash had kept him in the loop, hearing from Char every week, until finally Andy had gotten the guts to show up at the studio to see Luxe. Seeing her in that booth, singing her heart out and talking about missing the misery had broken his heart, but it had opened his eyes.

They had been so young when they had gotten together and a lot had changed-they had changed. Andy had lost his grandfather, someone who meant the world to him and Luxe had dealt with her demons over and over again, but here they were. Sitting at her kitchen table, the amazing dinner she had prepared in front of them and they both stayed silent as they ate.

It wasn't an uncomfortable silence-it never was with Luxe-but in that silence there was so much. Andy knew, deep in his heart, that he wanted to be with Luxe again, but they still had some things that needed to be worked out.

"This is really good Luce." Andy said in between bites and Luxe only smiled.

"Told you I've been practicing. Pixie and I have started taking classes on Saturdays." Luxe said and Andy looked at her wide eyed. This girl had completely changed and he could see now that maybe she had been better off without him.

"You girls excited for the summer?" Andy asked and Luxe only nodded as she took one final bite of her food and then leaned back in her chair, completely stuffed.

"We are-we've been going over the list of songs we want to do. It's so hard since the set is so short." Luxe smirked and Andy only nodded his head. He remembered that first tour on Warped-which had been made even more difficult by his severely broken ribs.

"Just take it one day at a time. Alex isn't making you wear anything too ludicrous is he?" Andy asked and Luxe only smirked. Her manager had been very kind to them lately, very giving and she knew it was because he felt guilty.

He had, after all, been the one to send out runners to get them whatever whenever they needed it. That included drugs...lots and lots of drugs.

"Nope. We have free reign. What about you guys? This will be your second time out...nervous?" She teased and Andy only smirked at her. That lopsided smirk-God she had missed it and it's power to make her melt.

"Us? No way! We are looking forward to getting out there, festivals are fun, but they're also really tiring." Andy said and the two of them shared a knowing smile as they sat at that kitchen table.

Soon the two bands would be together the entire summer, touring with one another once again, but this time it wouldn't be the Dolls who would have the melt down...

Notes

Hmm...I wonder which band on tour will have the melt down...

Review and find out how the girls handle their first full summer of Warped Tour<3

PS-This chapter is dedicated to the lovely ItsDoneForYou because it's her birthday and I love her<3

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you
