Turn Out The Lights

Something About Her

Andy’s POV

Her eyes, I thought.
They were a different color a minute ago, weren’t they? No…they’ve got to be just contacts. Maybe I didn’t notice them out of the light. Get ahold of yourself Andrew Dennis, you’re just tired. Tour is getting to your brain.
“So, tell us about yourselves,” said Jinxx, smiling,
“Well, there isn’t much to tell, I’ve lived here for most of my life and when the economy kind of took a turn for the worst, that’s when Abigail, Avira and I became roommates,”
“What do you guys do for work?” asked Ashley,
“I’m a bartender,” Abigail replied,
“Pretty handy with the bottles, are you?” CC joked,
“You have no idea,” Lisbeth chuckled. What did she mean by that, I wondered?
“What about you Lisbeth?” I asked,
“Oh, I don’t work at the moment…but I paint pictures and sell them to shops in town,”
“That’s neat!” smiled Jinxx,
“Avira,” CC said,
“What?” She jumped a little,
“You’ve hardly said a word,” CC remarked,
She didn’t respond, “She’s just really shy,” Abigail said putting her arm around her; rubbing her back.
“Well, its ok, we’re among friends here,” Jake smiled sitting next to Avira, “tell us about you,” he said.
“Guys,” said our manager, “almost show time, cut the social time short and get the girls to the front row,”
“Ok,” I replied, “girls,” I said turning to them, “as much as we’d love to talk but it’s almost time to perform so, we’re going to have our security guards escort you to the front row and maybe we can keep hanging after the show?”
“That’d be perfectly fine,” replied Lisbeth.
“Great,” I smiled politely. They stood and followed one of our guards behind the stage and out to the front of the crowd.
I turned and mentally prepared myself to go on stage, while watching the others grab their instruments. “Jinxx,” I said quietly as I approached him,
“What’s up?” he asked,
“Look, am I the only one who noticed something…odd about those girls?”
“Odd?” he asked raising an eyebrow, “they seemed fine to me,”
“More in particular, Lisbeth…I’ve just go this feeling,”
“What, that she might be a little crazy? She seems nice,”
“But her eyes,” I protested,
“They sparkle, what about them?”
“I just…it’s nothing,” I shrugged off the thought,
“Look,” he said placing a hand on my shoulder, “they seem like nice girls, let’s just give them a chance, I mean c’mon, Abigail’s a bartender, free drinks tonight if we play this right,”
“True, well let’s just give it our all tonight,” Jinxx smiled as everyone else gathered in our pre-show ritual huddle for a prayer.

Avira’s POV

People everywhere; they were looking at me! This was…different. I was afraid but I was also excited and all too new for me…so many years of isolation and not being able to feel anything. The guys were so nice to us; to me. I had no idea such kindness existed in this world.
The curtains drew aside and the lights flashed; guitar riffs were played and drums were slammed. The gift of music returned to me once again and I have never felt so alive. My body began moving, literally jumping up and down to the beat. I looked to see Lisbeth and Abby doing the same thing and it felt right!
“Are we having a good time tonight, Denver?” Andy asked the crowd; the crowd screamed back plausibly. By the middle of the show, I felt my muscles turning to Jell-O. I was actually sore but I didn’t want to stop jumping to the music. Suddenly, the pain intensified and I looked down at my arms. I could see through them to the floor! The ring on my finger…was gone! Oh God, what’s going to happen to me now that people can see through me?
“Abby!” I shouted, she turned and saw me and her eyes went wide.
“Avira, what’s happening? Where’s the ring?” she gasped, I shook my head not knowing where it could’ve gone.
“Lisbeth,” Abby shouted, “Avira’s ring is gone! We need your eyes!”
Lisbeth narrowed her eyes and looked for my ring, scanning the room carefully after what seemed like an eternity she proclaims, “There!” She rushed over to pick up the ring and…

Lisbeth’s POV

I reached the ring and picked it up off the ground; as I turned around I could only see Abigail…Avira! She’s gone! Oh God, what’s happening? “Abigail!” I called to her, “where’s Avira?”
“She’s not gone, she’s alleviating,” she replied,
“What do you mean?”
“Because she was in human form for so long, her spirit form is going to go through a traumatic breakdown; the only way to keep her from fading entirely is to be put in a temporary hibernation,”
“How long does this last?” I asked,
“An hour or so,”
“It can’t be that long, we have to meet the guys after the show, and what will we tell them?” We quickly darted out of the venue and to the alley way.
“Avira!” Abigail called out,
“Avira!” I called out second,
“Lost your little friend?” That voice…
“Demetrius,” I growled,
“Lisbeth, no,” Abigail said gripping my shoulder tightly, “let it go, we’ll take care of him later,”
“Get out of here you worthless, excuse for a mutt!” I screamed,
“Ouch, that really hurts my feelings, Lisbeth,” he said sarcastically wiping a tear from his eye, “I would expect a decedent of mighty Dracula to be a little more courteous,”
“Demetrius just go,” warned Abigail.
“And what are you going to do if I don’t?” he began approaching us closer, with each step his face morphed, slowly transforming into his wolf form. I could hear the low rumble in his throat as he began to growl, “I warned you, Demetrius,” she growled,
“Abigail?” I asked concerned,
“Get back, Lisbeth,” she replied, her eyes glowing bright silver like lightening; I backed away.
“Vade, nos relinquere nunc!” shouted Abigail at the wave of her hands to the sky. Bolts of lightning struck the earth, leaving smoldering red embers in the pavement where we stood. She coiled back her arms, taking the lightning into her own hands and shooting it directly at Demetrius. He jumped out of the way, quickly disappearing into the darkened alley way.
“He won’t come back for a while, let’s just stick to finding Avira,”
