Turn Out The Lights

Intro to Darkness

Abigail’s POV

The headlines in the paper read in big, bold font: “MILE HIGH MOB BOSSES FOUND MYSTERIOUSLY DEAD AT CONFLUENCE PARK;” at the flick of my wrist the butter knife ascended into mid-air along with the butter dish and began buttering my blueberry bagel. I sighed to myself as I heard the creaking of Lisbeth’s coffin. With a snap of my fingers and a flick of my wrist, the shades shut down blocking out the sun for Lisbeth.
“Lisbeth,” I sighed as she came down the stairs, “I thought we discussed you not making such a mess with your dinner,” I could hear her groan. “Sorry,” she blushed as she reached into the fridge and poured herself a bag of AB Positive into a cup, then put it in the microwave.
“I thought you weren’t going to be using your powers for little things anymore,” she said pointing at the bagel that descended into my hand.
“I can use them every now and then, if I don’t then I might not be able to use them ever again,” I took a bite of the bagel and set the paper down to take a sip of my coffee.
“Have you seen Avira?” Lisbeth asked.
“Not yet, I think she’s somewhere in the walls,”
Lisbeth grabbed her cup of blood from the microwave and began pounding on the walls, “time to wake up you bag of bones!” she hollered.
“Alright, I’m up,” Avira emerging from the wall, scratching her head, “no need to be so loud,” she sighed.
“Sorry, dear,” smiled Lisbeth, “it’s just not like you to sleep in is all,”
“You’re always the first one up before us,” I replied,
“I never sleep, remember?”
“Then why were you hiding?”
“What’s even the point?” she said ringing her hands anxiously, “you know I hate being around people,”
“But you like being around us, don’t you dear?” Lisbeth tried to put an arm around Avira to comfort her but fell through her, Avira blushed sadly and bowed her head in silence.
“Avira,” I sighed, “you know this isn’t good for you, staying home like this,”
She didn’t say anything.
“That’s why I made you this,” I smiled pulling a ring out of my pocket. A sacred gold band with the largest ruby mortal eyes has ever seen. She gave me a puzzled look.
“Abby, what is it?”
“It’s a ring silly!” I smiled,
“It’s not just a ring, Abby, it’s never just something with you, it’s something with a magical binding or curse or something put on it,”
“Just put it on and you’ll see,” I said pushing my hand out to her, “trust me,” I smiled.
She slipped her middle finger into the band and her translucent form became solidified. She sucked in a wisp of breath, “w-what’s this?” she gasped.
“You’re human,” I smiled caressing her cheeks. Her eyes grew wide with tears as she put her hands over mine that were caressing her face; she pulled my hands off and looked at them. Tears spilt down her cheeks.
“Abigail, this…this is too much, how in the world did you…?”
“It took me a while to find but I tweaked the spell a bit and voila!”
“This is me,” she said to herself as she ran to the bathroom, she gazed at herself in the mirror and petted her matte hair and smiled, “I’m really here!”
“Yes but only as long as you wear that ring,” I warned her.
“Gosh, I just…I feel so…”
“Alive?” Joked Lisbeth; I couldn’t help but chuckle at her remark.
“Yes!” Avira gleamed, “I just want to do something!”
“Like go to a concert?” smiled Lisbeth with her fangs bearing.
“What concert?” I asked,
“Just so happens I was the ninth caller and won three tickets to the Black Veil Brides concert at the Ogden Theater tonight at seven!”
My jaw dropped, so did Avira’s. This was unbelievable. I’ve always adored Black Veil Brides in a way. Their music just…spoke to me. “Well, it is only noon,” I implied, “why don’t we go shopping for our concert attire?”
The girls both smiled, “Let’s do it!”

Andy’s POV

“Andy!” shouted a voice; “c’mon man it’s time to get up!” said the voice again.
“I don’t want to,” I groaned.
The curtain from my bunk was pulled aside, revealing a very annoyed CC.
“C’mon,” he said grabbing my arm, “it’s time to get ready and rehearse.”
“Screw rehearsal,”
“Andrew Dennis, you bite your tongue!” he said still pulling.
“What’s the point?” I groaned,
“The point is we’re in the Mile High City, we need to do rehearsal or we won’t be able to go site seeing!”
I finally sat up, my mouth was dry and miserable, and I craved water and a cyanide pill.
“Look who finally came out of his crypt,” smiled Jinxx.
I got a water bottle from the fridge and chugged almost the entire bottle.
“Are you still depressed about Ju-,” asked Ashley before I cut him off.
“Don’t even say her name,” I growled,
“Sorry,”
“C’mon, it’s a new day,” said Jinxx,
“Seems like any other day to me,” I shrugged,
“But it’s sunny and it’s warm and-“
“And it’s just another day,” I was being such a mood killer.
Our tour bus door swung open and our manager, Jonathan came in telling us we needed to be on stage for rehearsal in five.
Let’s just get this over with.

Lisbeth’s POV

The sun was going down; it was almost safe to remove my necklace. This ancient relic, passed down from generation to generation of Dracula’s family. Finally, it was given to me before my mother has vanished…I still don’t know what happened to her or my father. The questions still burn in my mind. Every time Papa and Nana (that’s what I call grandpa Drac and Grandma Ilona) come to visit…I never have enough nerve to ask. My mother was a touchy subject for Papa.
“Spiced chai latte, Lisbeth,” called the barista. I picked up my cup and joined the others in Barnes & Noble to kill time before the concert.
We had already hit Hot Topic, Forever 21 and H&M. I had bought just a plain black satin dress with studded leather jacket and some converse sneakers. Abigail stuck to black skinny jeans and some kind of black hipster shirt with an owl on it. Avira wasn’t much of a shopper so we managed to get her some black shorts with a purple long dress-like tank top. Our hair and make-up had been done before we left the house so we were all set if we needed to touch up in a few areas.
“I was just looking through the fantasy section,” laughed Abigail, “such bullshit they write about us, they don’t even know the half of it,”
I smirked and lowered my shades as we exited the store. I looked back at Avira who had been quiet most of the time; she was constantly looking at her feet and playing with that damn ring that Abigail gave her.
“Avira, say something,” as I slammed the car door and turned around to look at her lying in the back seat.
“I’m just not feeling myself is all,” I looked at her,
“She’s right,” Abigail said, “the ring will do that to her for a while as she continues to wear it longer,”
“Is it killing her?” I asked confused,
“No, her spirit is just adapting to the fact that her body is in physical form, the feeling she’s feeling is her humanly functions beginning to work; heartbeat, stomach churning, pulse, it’s all too new to her considering she’s been dead for thirty years,”
I looked at Avira and then back to Abigail, “do you have some kind of spell or potion you can use to ease her sense?”
“Well, I was getting to that,” we pulled into a parking garage that was fairly close to the venue and from what I could smell, a few restaurants too.
“We’re going to have some dinner before we mosh,” smiled Abigail, “besides, food is what Avira needs; her body needs nutrients,”
I got out and pulled Avira to her feet, using me and a crutch to keep her from toppling over. “Let’s go someplace fast, the concert starts in an hour,” I suggested.
“Panda express sounds good,” Abigail smiled,
“Some O negative sounds good to me,” I smirked,
“Lis, no” Abigail snapped her head,
“I’m joking,” I laughed.
We ordered our food and sat down. Avira was having trouble eating but she managed to adapt to the human like qualities. “Feeling any better, darling?” I asked,
“Yeah, it’s just been so long since I’ve tasted food…it’s so amazing,”
Abigail and I smiled softly to each other. We’ve never seen her so happy or this…alive.
Just as I was about to take another bite of my food, my body froze at the scent, I dropped my chop sticks and Abigail looked at me in shock, “Lisbeth,” she said sternly, “what’s wrong? Are you thirsty? Please say something,” she said gripping my wrist. My eyes turned red.
“Him,” I growled, “he’s near,”
She knew who I was talking about. Demetrius Auditoré Francesco; that bastard! What was he doing on my side of the city? He knew he couldn’t cross the river.
“We’ll take care of it later, Lis, we have to go to the show now, don’t let it bother you…maybe they’re just feeding,”
I inhaled deeply and got up, storming off angrily. I ran down the street to the car and go into the passenger side, I bit into my knuckles and growled. After a few minutes, Abigail and Avira got in,
“Will you be alright?” Avira asked,
“I think so; I’m just ticked is all,”
“When are you and Demetrius going to call off this feud between your two houses?” Abigail asked in annoyance, “this has gone on since both of your families arrived in this country hundreds of years ago,”
“I don’t care! His grandfather betrayed my grandfather; we do not forgive those who prove disloyal to our clan,”
I leaned against the door and watched the city lights pass above us, “we’re here,” Avira said softly, I got out and looked at the people lined up outside the venue, “the person from the radio station said to meet around back and give them my name,” I told them; I lead the way with Abigail and Avira following closely behind. I could feel the little die-hard teens in the line giving us death glares, I shot my flaring red eyes at them as I passed, clenching my jaw to keep myself from baring my fangs.
We went around the side of the building into the shadows with nothing but a florescent light shining above the door with a man leaning against it dressed in a black button-up shirt that had a BVB logo stitched into one of the sleeves,
“Hello,” I said approaching him, “I’m Lisbeth Helsing, I won the radio contest,” the guard looked at us skeptically, “can I see some I.D?”
“Gladly,” I replied pulling out my driver’s license. He scanned it then gave it back to me, then took my arm and gave me a red wrist band, “go on inside,”
He gave red wrist bands to Abigail and Avira as they entered. The place was hot and sticky. The smell of beer, cigarettes and hair spray was thick. Just then, Andy emerged along with Jake and CC. I stopped and held my breath a little. CC turned around and smiled, “are you Lisbeth?”
“Yes,” I smiled,
“Good to meet you, congrats on winning the contest man!”
“Thanks, it’s like…a real honor to be meeting you,” my faced hurt from smiling so much, I caught glance of Andy and he seemed to be barely taking interest. He lit a cigarette and took a long drag before finally averting his attention over to what CC was doing.
“And who are your friends that you brought?” CC asked,
“This is Avira and Abigail,”
Abigail gave a polite wave and Avira just smiled softly, gently brushing a piece of hair out of her face. CC gave her a smile which I could see made her cheeks turn pink.
“Is it ok if I can hug you?” I asked CC,
“Of course; Hell, get a picture, autograph; the works!” This was so exciting; soon, Jinxx and Ashley came and joined us.
“Hello, ladies,” greeted Ashley, “Lisbeth, right?”
“Yes,” I smiled,
“Oh good; I was afraid I’d call you something else,”
Everyone was getting hugs and pictures but every time I glanced at Andy when he was out of the camera, he looked annoyed; sad maybe. Just not wanting to be here; his eyes displayed his feelings pretty well.
As Abigail and Avira were chatting with the others, I walked over to Andy, “you alright?”
“What-oh! Yeah, I’m fine, just tired…”
“You’re not very good at hiding your feelings,” I protested,
“Excuse me?”
“Something is wrong,” I quickly glanced at his eyes, just then, something or someone turned on the fan. A breeze flew past Andy and I got a strong whiff of his scent. It was so sweet, so toxic. My eyes turned red and I hunched over with my hand over my mouth,
“Are you ok?” Andy asked kind of panicked,
“Yeah, just a…nose bleed,” I lied, “happens all the time, I’ll be fine,”
“Have your eyes always been that color?” he asked curiously.
Oh no, I was done for…
