An Unexpected Love

Brittany’s POV

“Actually, Avery…umm…”

“Spit it out! Come on!”

“The guys invited me to stay with them.”A long pause. “Avery?”

“Wow.”

“Is that all you can say?” Suddenly, Jinxx poked his head out the bus door.

“Oh, there you are. We are going to get moving again soon. Come on.” I nodded and turned back to the phone.

“Avery, I gotta go. I’ll talk to you soon, ok?”

“Yeah. Bye!”

“Bye!” I walked back on the bus to find everyone was out of their bunks except for Ashley. “Hey, guys?” They all looked at me. “Jinxx said earlier you might have some clothes I can borrow. Can I please?”

“I have some.” I turned to the door of the bunk room and there was Ashley. He motioned for me to follow him. “Come on.” He ducked back in the doorway and I followed him. He pulled out a plain black long sleeved t-shirt (didn’t think he had anything with long sleeves…) and some dark blue skinny jeans. I wasn’t sure if the jeans would fit, but you take what you can get right? He turned toward me. “About this morning…”

“Ashley, don’t. It’s not your fault, it’s not anybody’s fault. Let’s just forget about it, ok?” He nodded, but then a look came across his face. He walked over and grabbed my arm. “Wh-what are you doing?” He looked me in the eyes.

“Trust me. Ok?” He looked back at my arm and pulled the sleeve up. I tried to pull my arm away, but his grip was strong. I saw the faint scars on my skin, and I know he did to. He looked at me, pain in his eyes. “Why?” I yanked my arm away and pulled the sleeve up higher where the scars were a little fresher.

“I have been clean for a month. I used to because…I was told things when I was younger. I was also abused. But, it’s better now. I gave the blade to my friend, Avery, and she has been there for me since she found out. You and the guys don’t need to worry.” I grabbed my clothes and made my way to the bathroom. I took a quick shower and did my hair the usual way, actually getting the bangs to straighten and not curl like usual. Score! I walked back out and all the guys looked at me with concern written all over their faces. I sighed. “He told you, didn’t he?” They hesitated, and then nodded. I sighed and pulled up the sleeves to the shirt. CC came over and engulfed me in a hug.

“Why would you do something like this to yourself?” I felt the tears come to my eyes as I hugged him back. Avery was the only other person who ever cared about me. Why did they?

“Because, CC. My story is a terrible one, and I don’t think you guys need to know it. Please just let it go. It’s been a month since the last time I have, so I’m clean now. It’s no big deal.” CC pulled away and nodded. I looked at the rest of them. “Ok? Don’t worry about me.” They nodded and went back to the movie they had been watching. I sat down next to Jinxx, who I felt close to for some reason. Andy was on my other side and was leaning forward excitedly. I soon found out why when I saw the movie. “Batman?”

“Yes!” I knew that Andy had a serious addiction with Batman, but I still wasn’t sure how bad it was. I poked Jinxx.

“Did he put it in before any of you realized it?” He shrugged, and I laughed. I started to feel really comfortable with these guys. I knew I shouldn’t become close to any guy, all of them always ended up hurting me for some reason. Friend or boyfriend, it doesn’t matter. But these guys saved me. I couldn’t help but feel this time would be different.
