An Unexpected Love

Avery watched as her best friend’s eyes rolled back in her head and she felt back against the cushions of the couch. Avery rushed to her side, holding out her hands and the blonde noticed that Ashley looked terrified and CC just looked confused. What was going on? Britt had said something about a ‘she’ being back and if it was the same she that Avery knew of then this wasn’t good. As Avery sat beside her friend on the couch, Ashley had gotten up and was moving around the cluttered kitchen. Avery looked over at CC, who was still just sitting there, biting down on a thumbnail and his brown eyes were scanning over his phone.


“CC?” Avery asked, her hazel eyes filled with pain. The drummer finally looked up and smiled softly-she looked adorable sitting there in her cut of shorts and tank top.

“Yes Avery?” He said and she smiled at him. Ashley was walking back into the room, a glass of water in one hand and a damp cloth in the other.

“C-can I see your phone?” She asked and he only smiled as he unlocked it with the password and then handed it over. Avery sucked in a breath as she looked down at the screen-this wasn’t good…actually it was fucking terrible.


CC, CC, CC...you do realize she will ruin your relationship with Avery, right? I mean, she doesn't care about her friends. I'm proof enough of that.


Oh God-oh fuck! Avery groaned as she looked down at her friend and she felt a chill run up her spine. The message was cryptic and it left Avery wondering about a few things. First off-how the fuck did this person get CC’s number? It was unlisted for one and not even Avery had it memorized and her own phone hadn’t been out of her site for more than a minute. Second-why was all of this coming up again now? They had been drama free for over two years and all of a sudden Brittany finds a little bit of happiness and this fucking chick pops back up.

Avery clenched her fist as memories flashed across her vision. Laughter, smiling faces as they drifted down a river on their spring break in sophomore year-all of this was coming back to Avery. They had once been a trio; it had been herself, Brittany and their best friend Julia. Julia and Britt had been friends before Avery had met Brittany, but once the two met it became the best times of their lives. They had done everything together-especially that summer-and Avery had thought that things couldn’t get more perfect. They had all been dating guys-her first band guy…God that had been so long ago.

Then things began to get weird. Julia became distant-abusive towards Avery and the two girls had parted ways after the Christmas break of their junior year of college. Brittany and Julia had remained friends and it had worked for a while, until Julia’s boyfriend Trevor decided that he liked the way Brittany looked. Britt had always been a flirt and Avery was as well, but Julia was more of a quiet observant person.

They had all gone to Cabo that summer-the three girls and their guys and one night something had happened. Trevor and Brittany had disappeared for about ten minutes and when they came back Brittany looked uncomfortable and Trevor had looked pissed. He and Julia had left early the next morning and no one had heard from them for a few days after.

When they had all gotten back to school, Julia had distanced herself from everyone-including Brittany-and more and more it seemed like things were going downhill for their trio. Julia stopped talking to them and whenever Britt and Avery would see her in the quad with Trevor, the couple seemed to be fighting with one another terribly. Finally it had all come to head when Julia had called Brittany one night and cussed her out. Trevor had broken up with her because he had feelings for someone else…feelings for Brittany.

That’s when the threatening phone calls had started-the messages being left on their dorm room door and someone had even cut the break lines on Britt’s car. All in all they knew it was Julia, but thankfully after graduating and moving to LA it had all stopped. Avery was brought back to the present once she noticed that Brittany seemed to be stirring. Her eyes opened finally and as she looked around and noticed that CC, Ashley and Avery were all staring down at her, Brittany only blushed and moved to sit up.

“Whoa there killer…slow and steady.” Avery said as she took the glass of water from Ashley’s hands and handed it over to Brittany. She had scooted the bassist out of the way and he only grumbled as he moved to sit in the recliner closest to the couch.

“Wha-what happened?” Brittany asked as she took a sip and looked around. Avery noticed that Brittany’s eyes filled with tears once she focused on Ashley. This was awkward and it was going to be a bitch to explain.

“You asked to look at my phone and then you just kind of fainted-it was fucking insane!” CC laughed and Avery quickly shot him a ‘must you with this right now’ look. He blushed and shrugged-just trying to lighten the mood a little bit.

“Oh God! Av-Avery she’s back! I know it!” Brittany was sobbing, her head up against Avery’s chest and the blonde just smoothed her hair down and took in a deep breath.

“Maybe, but if she is then we have to do the right thing this time-we have to go to the cops…” Avery said softly and Brittany only nodded as she looked up and over towards Ashley. He looked so confused and Brittany knew-she was going to have to explain a lot of things to him.

“Can some one please tell me what the fuck you two are talking about?!” He sounded so flustered and as Brittany gulped down some more water, she knew…it was time.


She always hoped that it wouldn’t come to this…she had always hoped that she would never have to relive those five terrible months.
