An Unexpected Love

Brittany's POV

I took a deep breath and felt the tears continue down my face.I focused on the floor in hopes of keeping calm.

"As you know, I had two friends in high school. One was a girl, and her name was Julia. The other was my ex boyfriend. Both of them were extremely abusive, but I didn't want to leave them and be alone. Julia and I ended up going to the same college. By that time, me and my ex had broken up, and I was ready to start dating again. I met a guy almost right away, and he was in a band. That's how we met Avery, her boyfriend was also in the band. Come to think of it, I must have a thing for bassists, eh, Avery?" I nudged her and she smiled a little, I could tell it was sad, and I knew it was because she knew where the story was going to end up going.

"And guys with tattoos." I chuckled a little and shoved her. She moved more toward CC. Oops. (Hehe)

"Anyway, Avery must have had a falling out with Julia,"

"Unlike you I wasn't staying quiet if she did anything." She shrugged off CC's arm and I rolled my eyes.

"Well, I was going to leave her as well, but she threatened to make my life a living hell. Well, at some point, I guess her boyfriend decided he liked how I looked better then her, and he started hitting on me. I got more and more uncomfortable around him, and Avery picked up on it, and she tried to get between us as much as possible. On night, he pulled me away from everyone else. He forced a kiss on me, and I kicked him in the balls. He returned that with a slap to the face. I did my best to hide it until the redness went down. When we got back, Avery said we had been away for ten minutes. After that, Julia didn't really talk to me. Suddenly, one night, she called me, cussing me out. She spent the rest of college threatening us. The only time my life was at risk was when..." I trailed off, remembering that day.

'Avery! Get in the back!'

'Why?!'

'The gas is stuck and the brakes aren't working! I'm going to have to hit the pole!'

'No! You'll die!' I gritted my teeth.

'Get. In. The. Back. NOW!' I unbuckled her and threw her in the back, thankful for my strength at that moment. I closed my eyes as the pole got closer and closer, and I heard Avery scream.

'NO!" My last thought before I hit the pole and passed out,

At least she is safe.

"Brittany?" I looked at Avery, thankful she was still here with me. "Do you want me to tell them?" I nodded and looked at Ashley. He read the question in my eyes and nodded. I walked over to him and snuggled into his lap, taking comfort in his heartbeat. "She cut the brakes on Brittany's car. Now, she had a very shitty car,"

"Hey now! I loved that car!"

"Yeah yeah yeah, I know. Anyway, it had these...fits...where the gas would get stuck. Hitting the brakes usually helped, but, in this case, we didn't have them. She threw me in the back, let me tell you, she is stronger than she looks. She hit the pole at a very high speed and was in a coma for a while." Avery suddenly trailed off and I looked over at her. She was bent over, and her shoulders were shaking. I went to stand up, but Ashley held me back.

"Let CC take care of it." I felt him wipe away tears I hadn't even known I had. "You need some comfort as well." I felt the tears start pouring down faster. A sob escaped my lips, and Ashley pulled me closer. He ran his fingers through my hair and I shook as I cried.

"CC, I'm fine now. Really, I am. Brittany? Britt, you ok?" I took a deep breath and nodded.

"Yeah. I'm fine."

"I thought you died. That day, when you woke up, we would have had to pull the plug on you. I heard you screaming, and yet I couldn't believe you were...back. Awake. What ever you want to call it." I nodded.

I woke up in a room and had no idea where I was. Things started to come back to me slowly. Pumping the brakes. Throwing Avery in the back. Hitting the pole. Oh God! Avery! Was she ok?

'Avery! AVERY!' Some people ran into the room.

'Miss. Eshbach, you need to calm down. Please.' I grabbed her by the shirt.

'Where is she?! Where is Avery?!'

'B...Brittany?' I looked in the doorway.

'Avery! Oh God your ok!' I saw the tears running down her face as she walked over to me and slapped me in the face.

"Miss. Williams!'

'WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?! YOU COULD HAVE DIED AND YOU CHOSE TO SAVE ME! DON'T EVER DO THAT AGAIN, YOU HEAR ME?!' I smiled at her.

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you.' I reached up and hugged her, and her body shook as she cried against me.

'Promise me. Promise me if something like that happens again we will not try to save the other. If we die that way, we die together, got it?' I nodded.

'Yes. I promise.'

"You totally bitch feasted me. Slapping me might have taken it a bit to far..."

"Well, you pissed me off."

"We made a promise that day, and I won't ever break that promise." Avery smiled at me.

"Neither will I."
