Land Of F.E.A.R

Remember

So rise from the darkness
Eyes of the dismissed
Hearts of the used
Show me your worst
Show me you're cursed
Tell me the truth

The sun was not yet in the sky but Perry was wide awake and staring at the person lying beside her. Reese was sound asleep, murmuring softly with a slight smile on his face and it only made Perry’s heart grow warm. She brushed a finger across his forehead, moving a piece of hair out of his face and he shifted in his sleep and then one eye popped open sleepily. The two of them smiled at one another, their smirks glowing in the dark and then his lips were on hers in an instant. Persephone wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer towards her and then she smiled as she felt his fingers against the back of her head. She loved him-they loved one another-and it was hard to believe that her life was turning out like this.

“I love you Persephone Jones…” His voice was still low and sleep filled, but Perry heard him none the less and only smiled as she nuzzled her head in between his neck and the pillow they were sharing.

“I love you too Reese.” She smiled against his skin, the bare shoulder glowing in the soft moonlight that was coming in from the window that sat above their front door.

“Do you believe in love at first site?” He asked her, twirling some of her red hair around one of his fingers and tugging gently.

“I-I don’t know. I guess I’d never thought about it before. Do you?” She asked and Reese said nothing at first, he only grabbed for her hand and held it up infront of them. They both stayed silent for a moment until finally she heard Reese take in a breath.

“I do. Remember that last day…that day that F.E.A.R took over everything we’d ever known?” He asked her and Perry only nodded and then shut her eyes.

Of course she remembered that day-she would never forget it. Persephone had woken up, five years old and ready for her day-Perry ran around the house while her mother fixed her favorite breakfast, chocolate chip pancakes. Perry was always running around, singing to herself or making up silly songs and her laugh always seemed to be ringing out through the entire house. Her mother had called for her, setting her plate on the table and Perry could only remember smiling and giggling with Maggie as the two of them ate their meal. Soon enough it was time for Perry’s mother to leave for her shift at work and the baby sitter took her position on the couch with Maggie at her feet.

Perry laughed and played outside-all of the neighborhood kids loved to play together and often they could be found in the Jones yard, making up some game or another. Perry played, laughing loudly as Meg, a neighbor girl who was the same age as Maggie, ran after her and the two girls ended up on the ground, rolling around in the soft grass. Perry loved playing outside-she loved feeling the grass beneath her feet and she loved feeling the sun kiss her skin gently. Suddenly something hit Perry on the left shoulder and as she looked around, a small smirk appeared on her lips-Reese Frazer had finally come outside and he was standing over his sister and Perry with his tiny hands on his hips.

“What you girls doing?!” He laughed, his blonde hair shining in the sun and Perry only rolled her blue eyes as she stood up and faced the boy before her.

“Playing. Wanna play with us Reese?” She asked him and the boy only shook his head and stuck his tongue out at her.

“I don’t play with girls!” He called out to her and then began to run around. Perry only laughed and ran after him.

This was always how their days had started-Reese pretending like he didn’t want to have anything to do with her and yet he always seemed to want to be around her. As a child she hadn’t understood, but now at nineteen Perry understood it all perfectly. Reese had had a crush on her, but being a five year old boy didn’t want to admit that he liked an icky girl. Their day had been spent running around, playing, yelling and just being children-until the sun began to sink below the mountains at the end of the road.

Perry had been sitting in the grass with Reese and Meg, all of them laughing and joking when suddenly a car pulled in to her driveway. Father was home and as Perry watched her father push the door open and rush towards her, Persephone could sense his urgency. Mr. Frazer was also rushing across the street, grabbing for his two children and rushing them off inside as well.

Before her front door shut in her face, Persephone caught one last look of the outside world and she locked eyes with Reese-knowing she would probably never see her friend again.

“I remember.” Perry said simply, coming back to the present and she smiled as Reese squeezed her hand and the two of them locked eyes. He was everything to her and Persephone knew that he had come to her in the night for a reason-to keep her safe under F.E.A.R’s thumb.

“That day, sitting out in your yard as we laughed and made mud pies-that’s when I figured it out.” He said to her softly and Perry felt her heart jump in to her throat. What was he saying exactly?

“What did you figure out?” She asked him, her voice shaking with her question and Reese only smiled at her in the darkness.

“That I loved you.” He said softly and Perry only smiled and curled up to him more closely.

“You’re lying. It’s a nice thought, but I know you’re just trying to be romantic…it’s working by the way.” She joked with him but as she looked at his face in the near darkness Perry could tell that Reese was being serious with her.

“I’m not lying to you Persephone. I always liked you-I liked how loud you were. I liked that you weren’t afraid to get dirty with the other boys and most of all…I liked your hair.” He was blushing, she could barely see it for the darkness, but it was there all the same.

“My hair? You liked my hair?” She laughed and he only smiled as his nose brushed against her skin and the two of them chuckled together in the darkness.

“It is very nice hair…” He said against her skin and Perry shivered as she felt his breath tickle her flesh. She was pressed against him tightly and Persephone could feel his heart beating against her own.

“You are absurd…” She laughed as she felt his fingers tugging and pulling at her hair. Reese said nothing at first and then she could hear him inhale a deep breath and then he spoke.

“Absurd enough to marry?” He asked and Perry felt her heart stop beating for a moment. What was he asking? What was he saying?

“What? Reese-I-what are you asking me right now?” She was sitting up now, looking at him with wide blue eyes in the darkness. Was this really happening right now? Was he really asking her this in her attic in the middle of the night?

“I-I guess I’m asking you to marry me Persephone.” He said, laughter in his voice and Perry felt her heart stop beating. He had grabbed for her hands and now they were both sitting up, staring at one another in the darkness and silence.

“Perry?” He asked after she had been silent for a moment and Persephone only laughed, tossed her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly.

“Yes! Yes I will marry you Reese…I-I don’t know how we’ll make it happen, but yes…” She was crying, tears of happiness and the two of them kissed quickly before facing one another once again.

“I swear to you Persephone Jones-I will make it happen. I will make you proud of me and we’ll get married and live together for as long as we can…” They kissed then, soft and slow and Perry allowed herself to get lost in the man who was holding her.

Sometimes fate happened in mysterious ways and as the couple hunkered back down in to their bed clothes and fell back to sleep-they would never know how cruel fate could be.

Perry shook her head, her red hair falling in her eyes as the memory of Reese and his proposal left her mind and she tried to focus. They had walked for hours, the sun now beating down on them in the middle of the day, but they had made it. They all stood in a line now, Andy in the middle with CC on one side and Jinxx on the other. Ashley and Jake flanked the ends while Persephone stood off with the large group of masked people, ready to fight to the death for their freedom. Her heart was pounding so fast that Perry could hear every beat in her ears and she knew now that this was the end of everything. They were facing a huge building-the large stone building that she had passed on her way to find the Wild Ones and the same building that had taken her family from her.

Suddenly a group appeared out of nowhere-the black smoke choking her slightly as she watched the five Guards standing before them, unmoving as their masks looked at them unblinking. From behind her was a cry and Perry watched as a small boy-who had obviously escaped Ella’s watch and snuck along with them-ran at the Guards and threw a rock in their direction. The two groups stood unmoving and Perry was unsure of what was going to happen.

No matter what happened in the next few hours, she knew that she would always have her memories.

@SummerTimeDreamer

Good thought, but it won't happen. Andy lost his true love and Perry lost her's-they're just friends.
