Land Of F.E.A.R

Resurrect

For the darkness
Has broken our homes
All that we wished for
Like fools on a rope
I can feel it
The desperate control
A burning passion
When love takes it's toll
Yet souls have a reason
And I won't let go!

Persephone sat in the very back pew of the dilapidated church, her hands resting on her knees as she folded them together and tried to breathe in and out slowly. There was a flurry of activity swirling around her, but she couldn’t focus on that right now. She knew that to her left Ashley and Jake were helping people get their gear on, behind her Jinxx was helping other’s to cover their bodies in black paint-the same paint that had branded them as a group, a community-and to her right CC was handing out weapons. Andy was there aswell, but he too seemed to be concentrating on something. The two of them had had a pow wow earlier and although it had given her some strength, Perry felt her knees turn to jello just sitting there.

Could she do this? Could she truly walk in to the desert, her hands griping weapons that she hardly knew how to use and then stand face to face with the Guards who had taken everything from her? Perry shook her head, her eyes still closed as she tried to drown everything and everyone out. She couldn’t do this-she was ready to do this, but she couldn’t move. Her arms were covered in black paint, still slightly sticky as she sat there with them resting against her cloth covered legs. Her mask-the one with the long nose and nasty grin-was up ontop of her head and her leather jacket was on the bench beside her. Her legs jiggled up and down quickly, her feet sticking to the floor as there was black paint and dust everywhere. Suddenly she opened her eyes and as Perry did so the breath left her chest.

The church, although falling a part, was beautiful on the inside. Behind the altar where Andy was standing, were a pair of huge stained glass windows-some of the only windows in the entire building that were still intact. The glass was stained in different shades of red and the sun was hitting it almost perfectly-there was a red haze over everything in the room. The pews were made of wood and although they too were old, they were still in pretty good shape and the wood wasn’t as rough as it looked. The floors of the place were just simple wooden planks-everything about this place was simple except for the windows.

Persephone felt a smile creep onto her lips as she looked around and noticed that others were joining her in the pews. Girls were holding hands, trying not to cry from nerves as they spoke lowly to one another. All of the guys in the room were sitting straight up, their arms crossed over their chests as they looked around.

Perry couldn’t help but laugh-the guys reminded her of Mark the hot head and then she realized how much she actually missed the jerk. He had died, leaving Odette in Perry’s care and she only hoped to make it out of this battle alive so that the two girls could move on with their lives together. All of the younger kids-no one under seventeen would be fighting today-were down in the catacombs, hiding and trying to stay as silent as possible. Persephone and Odette had had their tearful goodbye this morning before Ella wrangled the feisty girl and they all disappeared out of site. They wouldn’t reappear until someone from the Legion made it back to camp with news of their victory…or of their defeat. Suddenly the room grew silent and Persephone snapped to attention as she realized that Andy was now standing behind the altar and staring right at her.

“Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to Church!” Andy said loudly, his deep voice booming off of the walls and Perry felt herself shiver. He was so menacing standing up there, his blue eyes filled with determination and hatred-hatred for F.E.A.R.

“We are gathered here today to come together to fight the oppressive forces of F.E.A.R. They have beaten us down, time and again, but not today!” He said and there were a few shouts of agreement. Andy held up a hand to silence those who called out and Perry moved to sit up straighter.

“Those shadows-they have haunted our dreams for too long Legion! They have beaten us down, held us hostage and taken things from us. No more!” Andy’s fist came smashing down against the wooden altar in front of him and a few people around Persephone jumped at the sound.

“Today is the day! We are gathered here together, readying for battle together like the family we have become! We take the bones of our fallen and make them into the weapons that will take down F.E.A.R! Take your pain. Take your sorrow. Take your anger-let it all rise up in the pit of your stomach and explode out through your hands!” Andy was pacing now, his hands clasped behind his back and Perry felt like she was in a shooting range.

“I too have lost-you are not the only ones in this room who have lost someone near and dear to your heart. The only girl I have ever loved, was taken from me and the air was sucked out of her lungs right before my very eyes. CC-The Destroyer-lost the girl he loved as well. Persephone Jones-her entire family was taken and her boyfriend shot dead in the streets like a wild animal!” Perry felt her stomach clench at the mention of her sister and of Reese. What would he be doing now if he had never run out after those Guards?

“We have lost many, but we have gained even more. F.E.A.R sought out to separate us-the entire country is separated into Sectors and yet…we’ve still found one another. Don’t you see…” He had stopped pacing and Perry felt her heart stop as her blue eyes connected with his. She could see the sadness behind them-she could feel his pain.

“We were meant to find one another-all of us. Meant to come together to fight the fight of a life time-to stop F.E.A.R. It hasn’t been easy and it isn’t over yet, but we are hoping that after the battle today for humanity that we will be able to put everything to rest. I want to return all of you to your homes-old or new-and I want us to all be able to rely on one another in the future.”

“I am your Prophet, yes. But I am also your brother in arms-the Wild Ones will always be there for each and every one of you…especially those of you who feel completely alone.” Andy was looking at her and Perry only smiled softly and nodded her head at him. He knew how she felt-he knew her pain and sorrow.

“Now, before we leave, I would like for Persephone to come up here as the Wild Ones and I have something to give her.” Andy was smirking, his mouth lopsided as his black bangs fell across one perfect blue eye.

Persephone felt unsure of what was going on-Andy hadn’t mentioned anything about giving her something. She felt herself shaking as she stood up and squeezed past the other people who were sitting in her pew. They all just stared at her and Perry swallowed down her fear as she made it out into the aisle and looked towards the front. Everyone-the entire Legion-were looking over their shoulders at her, their mask covered faces watching as she slowly walked up towards where Andy was standing. The floor boards groaned beneath her bare feet and Persephone smirked as she noticed that Jinxx and Jake flanked Andy on his left, while CC and Ashley stood off to the right. What was going on? As she approached, Perry could feel her heart beating a mile a minute and she knew that soon enough she would be facing an entirely different firing squad.

All of the guys were smiling at her and as Perry made her way up the small set of stairs and moved to stand near Andy, she noticed that he held something in his hands. It was a black jacket and the smile on his face told her that something was up. Persephone had been frantic a few days ago-she couldn’t find the jacket that Maggie had been wearing. Her sister hadn’t worn it the day she died-it wasn’t really her style anyways-but Persephone wanted it none the less.

Now, as she stood before Andy and watched as he shook out the black cloth before her eyes, Perry felt the tears begin to well. It was Maggie’s jacket and he was holding it so that she could see the back of it. There, just like his and all of the other Wild Ones, were the words across the top of the back-“Dreamer”. She was a dreamer-she always had been and she always would be.

“We are presenting this to you Persephone Jones because you have helped more than we could have ever imagined. You came to us-not because we could do much for you, but because you felt like you needed to be here. That is how we all felt before coming together-we knew there was a greater purpose for us and that that purpose would soon come to light.” Andy was moving closer to her, the jacket held out and Persephone finally let a finger run over the stitching. Her eyes filled with tears as she locked eyes with Andy and smiled.

“This-this was the last thing Odessa was working on before she passed and we were hoping to give it to you under better circumstances, but the guys and I felt like you needed this-we all did.” Perry broke down at his words and soon enough she had collapsed against his chest, her red hair wild and getting in the way like always.

“Thank you. Thank you so, so much.” She whispered as she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissed Andy on the cheek and then moved to take her own leather jacket off. Maggie’s jacket was tight on her arms, but Perry knew that it was perfect-no matter what. Now the only question that remained-would this be the jacket that she died in today?

“Legion!” Andy called out and the room grew silent. Perry moved to walk back down to her seat, but Ashley only placed a hand on her arm and moved her so that she stood between him and CC. She was a Wild One now-she had always been one at heart.

“It is time! Gather your things Legion and know this-they have called us Wretched! Well I say we are Divine! F.E.A.R left us for dead-they expect us to run away and retreat, but they will be shocked to find that we do not live by their rules. Oh no-we are the Wild Ones! We are the Legion of the Black! We are a family and we always will be!” People were screaming and shouting as they stood and Persephone only smiled as she looked around.

It was now or never…it was time to die.

@SummerTimeDreamer

Good thought, but it won't happen. Andy lost his true love and Perry lost her's-they're just friends.
