Land Of F.E.A.R

Nothing But Silence

Let shadows die
So I can feel alive.
A church of lies
Can't tell me what is right.

The sun was barely up and yet the sand was hot against her skin as it swirled around Perry’s legs. They had left over an hour ago and while where they were going wasn’t too far away, they had to all go slowly as to not be detected. Andy was leading the group, his face bare for all to see while the rest of them wore masks to hide their true selves. Odessa, her arms covered in black paint and her blonde hair pulled away from her masked face, was walking right beside Andy and Perry smiled as she noticed their clasped hands. Behind them were Ashley and Jake, both walking slowly as well with no masks on their faces. None of the Wild Ones wore masks-they did not fear F.E.A.R and they wanted to be known as the group that acted against the governing body.

She could see that they were getting closer to the huge building off in the distance and her heart leapt in her chest as Perry took in the slightly smaller building that was off to the left. It was a box with no windows and no visible doors, but she knew exactly what it was-the gas chamber. Perry felt her heart beating out of her chest as they continued to walk and the buildings seemed to get larger and larger. She knew who was behind her and she wasn’t happy about it-Maggie had come along, even though both Persephone and CC begged her to stay behind. It’s not that they didn’t think Maggie could defend herself or others, but she wasn’t cut out for fighting-she was more of a nurturer. But she was here, holding CC’s hand as they walked along silently.

Finally they had reached a point where everyone had to begin to split up and Perry silently followed behind Andy, Odessa, Ashley and Jinxx towards the left side of the building. CC, Maggie, Jake and some of the other’s moved to the right side of the building and everything was dead silent. Perry could only hear the blood rushing to her ears as they stood there and waited for the call that everything was clear. CC would go in first, he was The Destroyer, which no one had explained to her what that meant, but soon enough Persephone figured it out. There was a loud crashing noise and she could see that the entire building seemed to shake-so much for being quiet. A low whistling sounded out and soon enough everyone was rushing forward as Andy moved to open the door before them.

Chaos ensued as Perry ran forward, looking left then right down the dark hallways of the dungeon they had entered. Huge horned Guards were running towards them and the people in the front of their group did nothing but point their spears and daggers towards the oncoming horde. Perry wielded her own weapon, slicing and slashing at anyone who dared come near her and she could hear people calling out directions. Words like ‘east’, ‘southwest’ and ‘forward’ were all she could make out, but as Perry kept moving she began to see that there were people behind the bars on either side of her. They looked scared and some were crying, but most had risen and were reaching out to her. She tried to open a door, pulling on the metal bars, but nothing was giving and Persephone looked around desperately.

“The lever!” Someone called out and as Perry looked around she noticed that it was a small girl and that she was pointing towards a long stick that was coming out from the wall.

“Help us!” They all seemed to be shouting out to her and as Perry pushed through the group of the Legion that was trying to run forward, she managed to get to the lever and used all the strength she had to pull it down.

There was a clanking noise of metal against metal and soon enough the bars began to rise on either side of her. People were rushing out, running towards the end of the hallway where there was sunlight pouring through and Perry only hoped that the Legion members they had placed at the doors would still be there to lead people off to camp. Perry moved on, letting people push past her in their escape-she had to find Andy, she had to find Maggie and they needed to get out of here. Everything around her was deathly silent, until suddenly a loud scream broke the air and Perry began to run. The dungeon was empty at this point, but she could see a dark cloud looming ahead and she could hear the sounds of people crying out.

Finally she reached the cloud and Persephone realized that the small group-The Wild Ones, Maggie, Dess and a few others-were being overwhelmed by a group of Guards. Perry rushed forward, her dagger pointed out and she didn’t stop until she had shoved it in to the nearest black robbed figure. There was a cry and then shouting, but Persephone just kept going. She could see that Maggie was okay, but where was Dess?

Andy was fighting, all members of the Wild Ones were fighting and as Perry broke through she could see that CC had been injured-a large gash was now bleeding across his forehead. There was so much going on that Perry didn’t even realize that someone had come up behind her and had wrapped their robe covered arms around her middle. She felt herself being picked up and carried off and as she looked up into the mask covered face of the Guard who had her, Persephone Jones began to scream.

“Help me! Andy! Mags!” She cried out, but was stopped by the hand clamping over her mouth. She was being held so tightly that she could barely breathe and Perry just shut her eyes to the world around her.

“Thought you could get past us Persephone Jones? The Chancellor expected you to come…” A harsh voice spoke into her ear and Perry only tried to scream louder against the hand that was still over her mouth.

She opened her eyes and noticed that she hadn’t been the only one who had been taken-there was a Guard holding Odessa-who was unconscious-and Perry felt her heart sink as she noticed one other person who had been taken. Maggie was kicking and fighting as she was being carried, her mouth also having been covered by a hand and Perry felt like crying. She had never wanted this for her sister-she had wanted Maggie to stay behind and to stay safe. Odessa also wasn’t supposed to be here-Andy had begged her for over an hour to reconsider, but the stubborn blonde had refused to listen. Now they were being taken down a long hallway and Perry could feel the heat begin to surround her as they walked closer and closer to a door that laid just ahead of them.

Persephone tried to wriggle out of the vice grip that held her, but it was useless-the Guard had a strong hold on her and only loosened it to move and open the door that they had finally reached. Before placing her inside, the Guards stopped for a moment, but they all still held tightly on to the girls that they had captured. Perry looked into the room before her and she could see that there were others who were in there, chained to the walls and they were crying out for help-what was this? Perry happened to look down at the floor and her blue eyes grew wide as realization finally hit her.

The floor was grated with slats that opened up to nothing and she could see the line down the middle of the room that showed how the floor opened up to the pit below. There were no windows and only the one heavy looking door with the lock on the outside. Small vents lined the top of the room right near the ceiling and Persephone felt sick to her stomach-the Gas Chamber. She screamed, kicked and bit at the person who held her and soon enough there was a loud cry as the Guard dropped her and turned around.

Perry was able to look between the Guards legs as she laid on the floor, too dazed to move, and what she saw gave her hope. Andy, CC, Ashley, Jinxx and Jake had run up behind the Guards and were now trying to fight them off. As Persephone looked around, she noticed that Odessa had woken up and was now crawling towards the room of the chamber.

“Mom?! Mother?” She called out into the room and there was a small cry from within that seemed to give Odessa the hope and strength she needed to get on to her feet and run forward. Perry noticed that Maggie had also moved towards the room and Perry tried to do the same.

“Odessa? Get out of there!” Andy shouted as he removed his dagger from the stomach of the Guard he had been fighting and Perry watched as the black robed figure fell to the floor and stayed there. Most of the Guards were now down, except one who caught her eye. Persephone felt a shiver run down her spine as she moved to get up and then screamed.

The remaining Guard, who had been fighting Jinxx and Jake, moved away from them and as quickly as possible had shut the door to the chamber-with Odessa and Maggie still inside. All five of the Wild Ones jumped on him and soon enough the Guard laid on the ground, unmoving and silent. There was a pounding on the door and as Perry stood and moved, she could see that both Odessa and Maggie were smacking their hands against the glass window.

Persephone got there first, shoving her hands underneath the handle as she tried and tried to tug it towards her, but it wasn’t moving. Andy had replaced her, moving her aside as he cried out for Odessa to hang on, but it was no use. They all could see-all six of them standing on the outside of the door-that the room was filling up with a putrid looking green gas. Odessa placed her hand against the glass and Andy moved to do the same.

“Odessa! Dess! No! No hang on-I-I’m going to save you! CC!” Andy was shouting, but it was no use-this door was too much for the Destroyer. Persephone watched as Maggie’s eyes began to roll back in her head and she could feel the hot tears streaming down her cheeks as she watched her sister-the only family she had left-succumb to F.E.A.R.

“Andy! Andy I-I…love…you…” Odessa said as her eyes began to close and they all watched as she began to sink towards the ground and out of site. Her hand slid down the glass and suddenly she had disappeared all together.

Andy screamed, a guttural heartbreaking scream as he fell to the floor and stayed there.

Persephone said nothing as she allowed her own back to slide down the wall she had been leaning against and the hallway grew silent as they listened for the worst sound in the world. The crying from within the room stopped and suddenly there was a clanking noise, a whooshing sound, thumps and then silence.

There would always be nothing but silence…

@SummerTimeDreamer

Good thought, but it won't happen. Andy lost his true love and Perry lost her's-they're just friends.
