We're Setting Worlds On Fire

War Against Myself

Dark shadows, with their great horns and flowing robes, were flying overhead and Lily ducked out of the way as one swooped down towards her. Sorry buddy-no soul here for you to suck. Lily smirked as she continued to run towards the large doors of the empty club and saw that Andy had been stopped by a Hybrid and was fighting for his life. Lily turned quickly, watching as the Hybrid was distracted by Andy’s sword, and quickly made a ball of fire and sent it flying towards the poor creature. It burst into flames and as Andy looked up from where he was kneeling on the ground, the two of them caught eyes and smiled at one another.

Everything was a blur as Lily ran on, dodging around fighting pairs or groups of teens trying to take on a Hybrid. It seemed like the teens would get the Hybrid on the ground and then an Angel who had been hovering overhead, waiting, would come down and throw as much Divine Fire at the soulless thing as possible. It worked, but it was odd for Lily to see Angels and humans working so well together.

They never had in the past and usually Angels preferred to sit by and watch humans live their lives, instead of helping them out like they should. Her boots clapped against the pavement as Lily finally reached the club, which was sitting in the center of the chaos. The huge black cloud was still swirling over the building and Lily shuddered as a bolt of lightning came down and struck a nearby lamp post.

The doors to the club were unguarded and Lily found that incredibly strange and also foreboding. What could be behind these doors that didn’t need guarding? As she pressed a hand to the cool metal and closed her eyes, Lily found that she couldn’t see anything that was on the inside. Usually if she concentrated enough, she could see through most things and get a feel for what she was walking in to. This time however there was nothing on the other side-just an empty space in her mind’s eye. Lily inhaled deeply as she pushed open the doors and then screamed as things began to poor out towards her.

Death Walkers, Baricoots and more Hybrids all rushed out, leaving Lily in their wake. She had been pushed to the ground and as Lily sat there and looked around her for a moment, she noticed that there was someone fighting beside Ashley who looked familiar. That red hair and bright green eyes-Lattie. What was she doing here and why was she fighting for their side?

Lily only stared as brother and sister fought back to back, bantering back and forth as they both sliced two Death Walkers in half and then congratulated one another. It made sense-Succubae were neutral when it came to the affairs of Heaven, Hell and all things in between. Whatever her reasoning for choosing their side, Lily was actually glad to see Lattie again.

Now that there weren’t things flooding towards her in a massive wave of nasty, Lily was able to forge ahead and she did just that. The room before her was dank, dark and cold, which was strange as it was still rather warm outside, even with the fading sun. Lily shivered, wrapping her arms around herself as she moved forward and then she jumped as she felt a hand clamp on to her shoulder. She wanted to scream, but after whipping around and her eyes locking on to a pair of similar lavender ones, Lily knew she was in good company. The Angel that had come up behind her was a site for sore eyes and Lily only smiled as her best friend urged her on.

Michael-always coming to her rescue when she needed him the most.

“What’s the plan?” He whispered in her ear and Lily shivered as his breath ran across her skin.

“Find Satan and hopefully with the two of us we can beat him and I can run my sword through him.” Lily said through the side of her lips, her sword gripped tightly in her small hands. Her sword-like Gabriel’s-was the only sword that could beat Satan. He couldn’t be killed, but the sword had been enchanted to send him back to Hell and to keep him there permanently.

“Okay, but what about Andy?” Michael asked and Lily only smiled at the thought of him, but she kept on moving forward. Where was Satan? Lily couldn’t believe that he would just be laying in wait, unprotected and sitting on some type of throne in a small room in a corner.

“What about him?” Lily asked as she pushed open the door to the large main room of the club and sucked in a breath. This is where Satan should be, but wasn’t. There was a large throne sitting in the middle of the room, it’s back huge and nearly touching the ceiling. Where was this guy? Did he go for a lunch break?

“Well the prophecy…” Michael said, but stopped as Lily only huffed. She didn’t want to think about it…she didn’t want to think about what it would mean if the prophecy were to come true.

“I don’t care about some stupid prophecy Michael-now come on.” Lily said, her tone somewhat harsh and she knew she shouldn’t be like that with Michael, but she couldn’t be distracted by thoughts of Andy’s death.

“It’s going to happen though…” His voice was low in her ear once again and as Lily stepped down a few stairs towards the throne, she felt herself grow cold. The last time she had seen Michael he had been in a major fire fight with three Hybrids.

How had he beaten them so quickly?

“You don’t know that…” Lily said as she looked around, but was suddenly on the floor and looking up at her best friend. Michael had grabbed her shoulder, pushing her down to the ground and now he was standing over her, a twisted smirk on his Angelic lips.

“Oh but I do dear child…I really, really do.” Michael’s voice, the one that had been light and airy, was growing darker and darker. His figure was changing and Lily felt her heart stop beating in her chest as she held the scream in her throat.

Michael, at least who she thought was Michael, was transforming and Lily crawled off towards the nearest wall to put some space between her and the creature in front of her. His skin was bubbly, boils coming to the surface and as they popped his creamy looking skin turned deep red. Those kind lavender eyes-the ones that had been such a comfort to her when she had come to Heaven-changed, the pupils becoming mere slits and the color had turned in to a sickly yellow shade. His teeth, still held in that twisted smirk, were growing longer and sharper and finally Lily knew…she understood.

Satan was here and he was looking at her like he was going to rip her in half.

“Lucifer…” She whispered as Lily moved up the wall, her leather clad back still held against the peeling plaster as she looked at the huge Demon in front of her. His black horns almost touched the ceiling and his hoofed feet were stomping at the chipping dance floor.

“Oh Angel-my Angelic name has no power any longer. Where is my son?” Satan asked as he moved to sit in his throne. An eerie light had come to rest on the large Demon, giving his red skin an even darker look and Lily said nothing as she stayed where she was, her back against the wall and her sword in her hands.

“Fighting. He won’t come though…he knows your devious plan.” Lily said. It wasn’t true-Andy had no idea about the prophecy or anything having to do with it. She was stalling and with a simple smile Satan just waved a hand and two Hybrids appeared at either of his sides.

“Oh Lily…don’t lie. It makes your Angelic face look terrible. Now…come closer.” Satan said and Lily only gulped as she looked up at the Demon sitting before her and then down at his Hybrids. Both were girls, their black eyes filled with hate and Lily felt her stomach churn. Their wrists were slashed and she knew…they had been the same age as her when they had perished.

“My friends will be here any moment.” Lily said as she inched forward. She was stalling again-no one was coming. Everyone was still outside and she had stupidly come in here without telling anyone where she was going. Andy was probably looking around the battle field for her, but would he come to her if he couldn’t find her?

“Oh Lily…don’t you remember…you have no friends.” Satan said as he smiled and then moved to stand. Lily watched as he transformed once again before her eyes, only this time she was looking at a smallish woman with light blonde hair and disappointed eyes.

Her mother.

“Lily! I told you to give that stupid music a rest! God you’re just like your father…useless and lazy!” Her shrill voice screamed and Lily only shut her eyes, clamping her hands over her ears. She couldn’t listen to this…not again.

“Worthless-good for nothing-piece of trash! Look at me when I’m trying to talk to you!” A hand had grabbed her chin, but Lily was keeping her eyes shut.

“You’re not real…” She said, the tears in her voice evident and there was nothing but a deep laugh filling the air.

Lily slowly cracked one eye open and was shocked to find the room empty once again. Suddenly there was someone coming at her and Lily felt her heart stop. Brianne-the small girl with her wrists slashed and half of her face burned off was running towards her and Lily could do the only thing that came to mind. She quickly spread her wings and flew up until she could come to rest on one of the rafters. She watched as Brianne-Satan-looked around and finally seemed to spot her. This was terrible and Lily should have expected Satan to fight dirty.

“Liiiily…come out and play…” Brianne called out to her and the Angel said nothing as she just shut her eyes and tried to think of something happy. Andy-think of Andy and his smile…his voice and the loving way he looked at her.

“Lily!” Brianne said angrily and Lily knew she wouldn’t be able to hold back her tears forever. She sighed, running a hand through her hair, which was falling out of it’s ponytail, before she jumped down and landed with a thud against the decaying floor.

“Enough!” The Angel shouted and Brianne only smirked as she just moved around the still Angel, her features morphing and shifting until finally Lily was faced with the worst person of all.

Herself.

The girl standing in front of her was a girl that Lily had not seen in two years. Her long blonde hair, hanging over her light lavender eyes that were ringed in caked black makeup, was stringy and greasy. One arm was crossed over her chest and her right hand gripped her left wrist tightly. A baggy band shirt hung on her slumped shoulder and her converse clad feet were pointed in ward. Lily sucked in a breath as she looked at herself and she knew…this had been how pathetic she looked mere days before her death.

The Lily before her looked up, those sad lavender eyes filled with nothing but sorrow and longing. She had longed for only one thing in those days and she had finally gotten it-she had died and her pain had ended.

“I’m nothing.” The girl said, her eyes tearing up and Lily felt her heart break. This is how she had felt about herself every day for two years…until she had met the one person in life who had saved her.

“You are everything.” Lily said, her tone kind and the girl looked up at her, those side eyes like a knife.

“I’m Wretched.” The girl said and Lily fought everything within herself to not walk over and hug the younger version of her.

“You are Divine.” Lily said, her sword falling to the floor as she lost the battle within herself and made her way across the room towards the girl who she had used to be.

“I will never be loved.” She said and Lily felt the girl wrap her arms around her waist and she knew…this was probably a really bad idea.

“You are loved.” Lily said as she touched the blonde head and squeezed tightly. The girl squeezed back and her grip on Lily’s waist began to get tighter and tighter.

“It’s over…” Those lavender eyes were looking in to hers and Lily knew that yes, yes it probably was over.

“I know.” She said and soon enough the girl-fake Lily-was smirking that nasty smirk and squeezing tighter and tighter.

Lily closed her eyes-she knew this was it. She wouldn’t die-she couldn’t die because she was already dead technically, but she could be hurt enough to be out of commission. Who would stop Satan? Who would end the war? Lily kept her eyes closed as she felt all of the breath leave her throat and suddenly there was a loud shout from somewhere behind her. Lily’s eyes popped open and she noticed that someone had finally found her…someone was there to save her once again.

Andy…

Notes

One. More. Chapter...and then an Epilogue. It's sad-I know-but this is how it has to be. I think the way I have ended this story is good, but some of you probably aren't going to like it very much. This story does end after the Epilogue-I am NOT continuing it on because I want to move on to other projects and this story has been over for me for a month now. Please understand that and know that I have plenty of other stories under my name and feel free to check those out.

@FallenAngel26

Aww I'm so glad you liked it! This series was really fun for me to write because I was able to put so much imagery in to it.

Just finished this series and oh my gosh! I can honestly say that a fan fiction had not made me cry until now. This story hit me right in the feels, expecially the 'just tonight' chapter. It just makes me so sad that they love each other so much but they can't be together. Anyways I love your stories, they are some of my favorites on this site :).

I just have to say that after reading this I now look at God Bless You as a way of telling Satan off

@Truly A Teenage Runaway

Aww well thanks! Start with A Love By Mistake as that is actually where this story is supposed to go. I warn you-I have A LOT of work haha so it may take some time.
