We're Setting Worlds On Fire

Bump In The Night

Lily grinned as she looked around the now neat and organized living room, placing her hands on her hips as she took everything in. She and Sammi had been hard at work for the past five hours-organizing things, throwing things away and folding shirts and trying to get them in their appropriate storage container.

Andy and Jinxx had left to take their instruments to the guy’s practice space across town and Lily was thankful for the time alone with Sammi. She had been able to describe-in detail-everything that had happened to her after she had died and why she was back. Sam cried a few times, mostly when Lily talked about watching over everyone, but with a few quick hugs things had been okay.

Having finished with the living room, Sammi said that she needed to get laundry started and Lily agreed that the guys were all starting to smell a little ripe by the time she had come down to Earth. While Sam was in the back loading up the washer, Lily sat on the old couch and smiled softly as she looked around. She was home-even though this apartment was not the one she had shared with Andy and Jake, the furniture was similar and it felt like home.

Even though Lily would never admit it to any of them, she had missed the guys terribly for a very long time. However Gabriel had nearly beaten the feelings out of her when she had been in training and so Lily had quickly learned to shut her feelings off.

Any time she cried-that was another hour of training with Gabe or Michael. Lily had liked training with Michael because he made her laugh and he went easy on her…sort of. Gabe though-woo boy-he had some anger in him and Lily knew it was because of his brother Lucifer. Satan. The Angels all pretty much refused to call Satan by his former Angelic name because they were all still very very angry with their eldest brother.

Gabe especially-his father had always loved Lucifer more than anyone else and that left Gabe in the dust. He would try so hard to give his father exactly what he asked for, but Lucifer was always first in line, having done it bigger or better. Lily had learned all of this from Michael as they trained and it allowed her to connect to Gabe a little more.

Lily sat there on the couch, mediating with her eyes unfocused as she faced the door, when all of a sudden the door popped open. Lily growled as she jumped up and formed her sword with a quick wave of her hands. She had to protect Sam-she couldn’t be anything but vigilant. Lily was crouched low to the ground, her sword held out in front of her and she quickly tried to think of what she should do first. Force field around the entire building? She could form a water spirit from the sink, but what if the creature on the other side had fire powers? Shit-what was she going to do?

“Whoa there Xena Warrior Princess-it’s just us…” Someone said and Lily’s head shot up. She felt a blush creep across her cheeks as she took in Andy and Jinxx standing before her, both of them wide eyed and looking at her warily. Lily quickly straightened up, her sword vanishing in a silvery mist as the two guys walked into the apartment and gave her a wide berth.

“Jinxx?! Babe is that you?!” Sam called from the back of the apartment and Jinxx only smiled as he moved into the kitchen and set the brown paper bag down on the counter. If Lily could feel, she knew in that instant she would feel like she was starving. They had brought home dinner…her favorite-Chinese food.

“You okay Lil? You’re looking a little tense there…” Andy said, walking up from behind her. He placed his hands on her shoulders, rubbing the sore muscles but Lily only growled as she shrugged him off and spun around. She looked wild, her blonde hair floating around her head and her normally calm lavender eyes were filled with hate and they looked slightly darker. Andy took a step back, his hands held up in front of him as he looked at her sadly.

“How many times do I need to tell you? Don’t. Touch. Me.” She snarled as Lily walked past Andy and flopped back down on the couch. Breathe-just breathe. Lily closed her eyes, breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth as she heard someone moving around the kitchen.

Why? Why could Andy just listen to her and do as she asked? She didn’t want to be touched-it was too tempting for her and it made her palms get all sweaty. Was this what love had felt like? It had been so long since she had felt anything, but Lily only shook her head, keeping her eyes closed.

Suddenly the delicious smell drifted towards her, getting closer and closer until finally the weight on the couch shifted and Lily knew that Andy was sitting right beside her. Dammit-she was never going to get to meditate today and she knew she needed to find her peaceful center before she killed the little shit.

“Lily? Don’t you want to eat?” Andy asked and Lily sighed as she opened her eyes. All three of them were sitting around her-Andy beside her with questioning eyes as Sammi and Jinxx were both sitting on the floor starring at her shyly.

“No thank you. I’ll just sit here and meditate while you guys eat.” She said, smiling softly as she closed her eyes and hummed lowly to herself. It was important for Angels to meditate; it kept them calm and allowed their Divine Powers to recharge.

“But I got your favorite-Shrimp Lo Mein with extra shrimp…di-did I get it wrong?” Andy asked, his voice low and sad. Lily said nothing as she cracked one eye open and looked beside her. He was sitting there, his black hair curling around his handsome face and his blue eyes looked unsure.

Fuck-why did he have to be so sweet?

“N-no. No you got it right Andy, but I can’t eat anymore, so you just keep it and eat it later if you want to. Thanks for thinking of me though.” She gave him what she thought was an encouraging smile, but Andy still looked dejected. She knew, in that moment Lily knew that she and Andy were going to have to really sit down and talk some things out.

“What do you mean you can’t eat anymore?” Andy asked as he brought a forkful of sesame chicken to his lips and took a bite. What was going on? Who was this person sitting beside him on the couch?

“I just don’t eat anymore. I’m not hungry…that’s all.” Lily explained with a soft smile as she closed her eyes once again. She thought of anything other than the conversation that she just had or the one that she needed to have with Andy later on.

“That really sucks Lil’-I’m sorry.” Sammi said and Lily only smiled, but kept her eyes closed tightly. She thought of the way the clouds looked as they floated by the Viewing Platform. She thought of the way the rose vines climbed up the marble and finally Lily thought about hanging out with Michael and Metatron.

Michael, who was considered the kindness of God, had easily become her best friend. He and his youngest brother Metatron, who was the actual voice of God, were there for her when she really needed some comfort. In her first few hours Lily had been alone with no one to explain what was going on and that had been the worst thing.

As she floated upward slowly after dying, Lily had the displeasure of watching Andy cling to her lifeless body as Ashley tried to pull him away. Then she watched as he mourned her, buried her and then put his heart and soul in to two songs that chronicled her passing. Finally as she entered a small room, Lily had begun to cry as she realized that she was dead.

Lily cracked an eye open, seeing that everyone in the room was talking quietly, but Andy would glance over at her every once and awhile. What was she doing? She was just sitting there, her eyes closed gently and her beautiful lips were parted slightly. Andy was finding it hard to concentrate-Jinxx and Sammi were talking about the coming tour but Andy could hardly take his eyes off of Lily.

Did she have any idea what she did to him? Still-after all this time he could hardly breathe around her. The way she was just sitting there with her legs tucked underneath herself, her eyes closed gently with her palms resting on her knees. All he wanted to do was lean in and kiss her neck-something…anything to make her feel.

“Earth to Andy…” Jinxx said and Andy snapped to attention and smirked, rubbing the back of his neck as Jinxx and Sammi just smiled at him. They had caught him staring at Lily and now he could feel the heat of a blush creeping up his neck slowly.

“Yeah?” Andy said as he set his empty plate on the table. Sammi only smirked as she stood from her spot on the floor, kissing Jinxx’s head as she got up and grabbed for Andy’s plate. Sam had been really good to him, taking care of Andy and filling the void that Lily had left in his life. She explained things to him when she could, but some things had to be left unsaid.

“I asked what your opinion was on practicing tomorrow…working on some of those new songs for the album and the tour…” Jinxx laughed as he leaned back on his arms and looked at the singer. Andy looked disheveled and slightly confused. He had been staring at Lily for almost their entire conversation-only giving Jinxx and Sam one words answers.

“Um-yeah. Yeah practice tomorrow sounds good and I think it would help to work on those two new songs that Jake and I wrote while on tour.” He said as his eyes finally drifted away from Lily’s face and Andy was looking right at Jinxx. The guitarist was looking at him with a pitiful expression and Andy sighed he reached back and fluffed the back of his hair. That had become his ultimate nervous habit.

“Good-babe are you ready for bed?! I’m exhausted!” Jinxx called out towards the kitchen. The guitarist stood, stretched his muscular arms above his head as Sammi entered the room, smiling as she wrapped an arm around his waist and cuddled into his side.

“Yeah-goodnight guys.” Sammi said, smiling at Lily-who had finally opened her eyes and was looking at the couple sweetly. She watched the two of them go, hand in hand as they walked back towards their bedroom, but as she sat there Lily realized that dread was lining her stomach.

Andy was going to ask her to sleep in his room-she just knew it. Then she would have to explain to him-again-that she didn’t sleep, number one, and number two…that wouldn’t be a very good idea as it was too tempting. Andy was sitting there beside her, his palms on his bent knees and his bright blue eyes were filled with questioning. He had on a ragged old AFI t-shirt and his pants had holes all up and down. He had taken off his boots, but Lily saw that there was a hole in the big toe of one of his socks. Andy had completely stopped taking care of himself and it made Lily kind of sad.

“So-what do you wanna do?” Andy asked, cocking an eyebrow as he looked at her and Lily only sighed as she looked up and met his eyes. He no longer had any makeup on his face-having either washed it off or it had come off in sleep but his blue eyes still sparkled.

“You should probably follow their lead and get to sleep yourself. We have a long two weeks ahead of us to get you guys ready for tour. I was thinking that maybe you and I should start training in the mornings-get your sword fighting back up to snuff.” Lily said as she got up and walked towards the window. She was going to place a protection charm on their building-just in case. She honestly didn’t think anything or anyone was going to come for them, but she wanted to meditate deeply tonight and she wanted to do it with a clear head.

“Will you come sleep with me? What are you doing?” Andy asked, his head cocked to the side as he watched Lily work. She was pressing her hand against the glass of their front window and Andy watched with amazement as a red mist crept up the glass, glowing slightly before finally becoming invisible.

“It’s a protection charm-no I won’t sleep with you…now go to bed Andy.” Lily said, her back was still facing him and her voice was stern and serious. Andy sighed as he got up and walked over towards her. He didn’t care if she shocked the shit out of him-he placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed softly.

“A protection charm against what? We haven’t been attacked since your-uh…death.” He said the last part lowly and Andy’s eyes grew wide as Lily turned her head to look at him. Her eyes, those deep lavender eyes, were sad looking as she licked her lips and spoke.

“There are still things that go bump in the night Andy…things worse than Demons and they will find us. It’s just a matter of time…”

@FallenAngel26

Aww I'm so glad you liked it! This series was really fun for me to write because I was able to put so much imagery in to it.

Just finished this series and oh my gosh! I can honestly say that a fan fiction had not made me cry until now. This story hit me right in the feels, expecially the 'just tonight' chapter. It just makes me so sad that they love each other so much but they can't be together. Anyways I love your stories, they are some of my favorites on this site :).

I just have to say that after reading this I now look at God Bless You as a way of telling Satan off

@Truly A Teenage Runaway

Aww well thanks! Start with A Love By Mistake as that is actually where this story is supposed to go. I warn you-I have A LOT of work haha so it may take some time.
