War Paint
“How does this look babe?” Andy asked, looking himself over in the mirror, but he wanted to know what Lily thought of his outfit. The blonde turned, her lavender eyes excited as she took in what Andy was wearing and she couldn’t help but smile.
He had on a pair of tight black skinny jeans with holes in the knees, no shirt, but he had on his leather jacket. His hair was down in his face, his blue eyes shining against the darkness. His black boots clicked as he tapped his toes against the tile of the bathroom and Lily smiled at him in the mirror as she came to stand in front of him, her small hands coming to rest on his pale chest. He needed something-all of the guys did and suddenly it popped into her head. Bands like KISS and Motely Crue all had something to get attention while on stage and that is what the guys needed. It was their first official show as a band-playing all original songs and all five of them were nervous. It was only at a house party, but Lily could feel the nervous energy that was running around the house all day as the guys rushed around to practice last minute things.
“I have an idea. Sit down and just let me try something before you say no.” Lily smiled as she pushed Andy down so that he was sitting on the toilet, but he still had to bend his head back slightly for her to get full access to his face.
“Are you really about to put makeup on me Lil’?” Andy asked, his tone playful but Lily said nothing as she began pulling things out of her small makeup bag.
She started with eyeliner-Lily carefully placed it under each one of Andy’s eyes, but then she began to make the lines thicker and thicker. Next came black eyeshadow, which she caked on until his eyes almost glowed beneath all of the black. Looking at him, Lily smiled as she pulled out her tiny bottle of liquid eyeliner and began to drag tiny lines down his cheeks, leaving then in jagged points. She bit down on her lip-he needed something else and as she looked down at his mouth Lily smirked and pulled her eyeliner back out. A quick line from one corner of his mouth towards his ear and a few hash marks later and Lily felt finished. Looking back down in her bag she saw that she still had some black body paint from the store-it was about to get thrown away so Lily swiped it.
“Stand up.” She ordered him and Andy only gave her a look as he rose to his feet and pulled off his leather jacket.
“What are you doing?” Andy asked finally as Lily began to drag her paint covered fingers across his chest and the tiny girl only smiled as she kept touching his skin.
“I figure you guys need a gimmick. Plus with all of this makeup on if there are any Demons waiting in the crowd-they won’t recognize you.” Lily smiled widely at him as she finished up and moved away from him. He felt sad at the loss of her touch, but Andy smiled as he looked at himself in the mirror.
“I like it Lily. It reminds me of the War Paint Demons wear when they go into battle.” Andy said smirking at himself as he turned from the mirror and grabbed for Lily. He held her to his chest tightly as he looked down at her and then pressed his lips against her soft ones.
“Well then consider this your War Paint. Lets go get the others ready.” Lily said, her voice excited as she grabbed for his hand and led Andy out of the bathroom.
As they walked down the stairs hand in hand Andy couldn’t help but drink Lily in. She was wearing a pair of black shorts, her old combat boots laced all the way up and her shirt hung loosely over her skinny torso, but her black leather jacket tucked everything in closer to her body. Her long white blonde hair was teased in the back, her long bangs hanging over her dark lined eyes and her lips were a cherry red. Andy wished he could pluck up the courage to tell Lily how much he felt for her-like he had tried to three weeks ago, but was then rudely interrupted by CC. Finally the two of them made it down the stairs and Lily headed for the kitchen where Ash and CC were sitting at the table while Jake and Jinxx were leaning up against the counters. The room grew really quiet as the couple entered and the rest of the band only looked at Andy, strange smirks on their faces.
“Is-uh-is that some kind of Demon thing?” CC asked from his spot at the table and Lily only stuck her tongue out at the drummer. Andy shuffled his feet, looking down towards the floor as a blush creeped over his body. Did he look that stupid and out of place?
“No. I thought you guys needed something. Now stand the fuck up and hold still you assholes.” Lily laughed as she moved towards Jake and Jinxx, an evil smirk on her red lips.
After an hour and with some help from Sammi and Jake’s new girlfriend Ella-the guys were all painted and ready to go. Lily stood back, proud of her work and her idea as she took the band in as a whole. Ashley had dark circles around his eyes, with stripes going down his neck and across his chest and his brand new OUTLAW tattoo stood out against his ghostly white skin. Sammi had painted wide strips all down Jinxx’s arms and neck and his eyes were framed with long pointed diamonds. Jake and Ella were still finishing up, but he had small stitches covering his arms and his eyes were darkly framed like Andy’s except the black had been drug all the way down to his cheeks. CC had long tear drops coming from his eyes and his hands and arms were all almost purely black. Andy also looked almost totally black, his blue eyes shining behind all of that black eye makeup and the stitches really brought out his boyish smirk.
“You guys looked fucking awesome!” Lily laughed as she clapped a hand against Sammi’s raised one and both girls smiled at the group widely. Ella came over to join them, her black hair teased high in the back and she smiled shyly at Jake as she looked out over the entire group.
“I feel like such a chick with all of this gunk on my face!” CC whined and Lily only shot him a menacing glare as she reached for Andy’s hand and the group began to set off.
“Get over it! There’s a reason for all of that gunk and you’ll thank me for it later when it saves your neck!” Lily called over her shoulder and Jake, Jinxx and CC all shot her a strange look as the group hit the street and headed off towards the left.
“If there are any Demons in the crowd they will have a harder time recognizing any of us.” Andy explained over his shoulder before turning back to look down at Lily. He felt so strongly for this girl and he couldn’t imagine how his life would be at this very moment had he never decided to save her from her torturous fate.
A twenty minute walk and finally the small group found themselves outside of a large house that was gated all the way around it. Andy squeezed Lily’s hand and moved to open the gate, allowing her, Sammi and Ella through first before following behind. The guys had all dropped their equipment off earlier in the day, checking to make sure they had everything before going back to Jinxx’s to get ready. As the group entered the building, it was clear that the party was getting started as people were milling about both outside and inside. Their stuff was set up in a small room off of the kitchen and Andy felt his heart leap in his chest as he looked around. They still didn’t have a name yet, but they had thrown around some ideas at their last practice and there was one name that Andy had thought up that everyone seemed to like well enough.
Black Veil Brides.
He had gotten it from Lily and her conversations with him about the Catholic Faith that she felt had abandoned her. He had learned that when Nuns married God, they wore a black veil and that it symbolized them giving up all Earthly pleasures to devote themselves to one thing in life. Andy didn’t want to give up everything, but he felt like he had given up a lot, both for the creation of his band and for Lily. He watched as the guys moved towards their instruments and Andy bent down, kissing Lily on the mouth before he moved towards his microphone. Jake, Jinxx and Ashley all played around with their guitars and bass, tightening strings as CC played around on the drums to get a beat going. Andy tapped the mic, trying to make sure that everything was functional and he smirked as he got some feedback from the speakers behind him.
“Hey guys!” Andy called in to the mic and everyone in the room turned towards him, some cheering as they realized that the band playing this party had finally started.
“I hope you guys are having a good time tonight. We are Black Veil Brides and this first song we’re going to play is called Never Give In-so I hope you like it.” Andy’s voice sounded out across the room and Lily turned from her conversation with some of the other girls at the party to watch him.
It was amazing to watch Andy up there, preforming in front of people like it was what he had been meant to do all along. He had often confessed to her when they were laying in bed late at night that he had never been happy down in Hell. Torturing people had been what he was told to do, but it was never something that he truly enjoyed doing. He loved music-something that Lily figured out quickly as it was all he ever wanted to talk about. Well that and Batman.
Andy had become obsessed with the caped crusader and it made Lily laugh to think that at first he had hated the very idea of a guy in a bat suit fighting crime. Lily watched as the guys moved from song to song, playing some covers and some original stuff and it made her happy to see that the crowd was liking everything so far. Some of the girls she was with decided they were going to get up closer and one girl with bright pink hair-Lily couldn’t remember her name-grabbed for Lily’s hand and took her right along with them. Lily danced and laughed with them, the girl with the pink hair seemed to be the center of attention from a lot of guys at the party, but Lily only had eyes for one guy.
Andy watched from the stage-they were taking a break from playing while the guys got something to drink and he couldn’t take his eyes off of Lily. She was dancing in the middle of the room with some other girls, one girl had bright pink hair and Andy couldn’t help but smirk as he watched her dance. The two girls seemed so free as they danced around, wiggling their hips and throwing their arms around. Andy only had eyes for Lily, but he couldn’t help but feel fascinated with the girl that she was dancing with. Everyone was watching the two of them and Andy only smirked as he remembered that later that night he would be the one to hold Lily as she fell asleep.
“You ready to get back up there Andy?” Jake said as he came up from behind Andy and clapped him on the back. All of the guys were slowly coming towards him, but Andy still couldn’t take his eyes off Lily and the pink haired mystery girl.
“Yeah. Hey! Do you know who that girl dancing with Lily is? I really like her hair…” Andy said and Jake followed his gaze and smirked.
“That’s Dess-she’s a local party girl out here for some scholarship or something. Come on…the guys are ready to start.” Jake said and Andy shook his head, finally moving to get back to preforming.
