The night air was hot against Andy’s skin as the three of them swiftly walked down the street, Andy’s hand staying on the hilt of his sword as he looked around every corner. He had killed a Guard of the High Council-what had he gotten himself in to? Lily was walking in between him and Cal, with Cal taking the lead as they all headed towards the entrance to the last place Andy ever wanted to go. The Death Pits. It was the only way to get Lily home according to Cal and Andy only hoped that this plan of his worked, or else all three of them were doomed. Andy felt sad as he thought about leaving this place-his home, the only home he had ever known.


“Hurry up Andy!” Cal called over his shoulder and Andy just waved a hand at him as the group came to a slow stop in front of a gated tunnel. Lily clung to Andy, her body close enough to him that he could feel her breath on his skin and it made him shiver.

“What are we supposed to do?” Lily asked as she looked up at and Andy and then trained her light eyes on Cal. The green Demon seemed put off by her appearance and Andy only hoped that Cal’s prejudice would not affect his helping them.

“You’ll have to go down these stairs and at the bottom will be a river. Avoid the edges as you walk down a small plankway and at the end will be Charon-give him this coin and tell him that on the Lord’s orders you are to be taken to the doorway to Earth. Charon is blind and very old, so as long as she doesn’t speak, you should be fine…” Cal said as his eyes grew wide and then Lily screamed out as something grabbed her from behind. Andy spun, a snarl escaping his lips as he was met with the two Demons he had not wanted to encounter: Moranis and Lattie.

“Where do we think we’re going little human? And you! Fleshling I knew I should have killed you when I had the chance…” Moranis spoke as he held Lily to him tightly and Andy could only look on, his eyes scanning over the brute Demon until they landed on Lattie.

“I’m taking her back Moranis and I’m going with her!” Andy growled, his fingertips lingering on the top of his sword as Moranis sneered at him, his hands griping onto Lily so tightly that she was cringing in pain. Lattie just looked at him, her red eyes sad but there was something else there-betrayal.

“You may try Andrus, but I will gut her within a second if you charge me…” Moranis said and Andy noticed that the larger Demon had his sword out and aimed at Lily’s abdomen. Andy flared his nostrils as he turned to Lattie and watched as she hesitantly met his gaze.

“Why? Why would you do this Lattie?” Andy asked as he turned to face someone whom he had thought had been his friend.

“Why? Because Andrus…I have cared for you my entire life and you’ve done nothing but push me to the side. Then this pathetic human comes along…” Lattie quieted down as Moranis held up a hand and soon Lily was being shuffled towards Lattie as Moranis held up his sword.


Andy followed suit and soon the two Demons were circling one another as Lily watched in horror. The Demon named Lattie had a tight hold on her and Lily felt herself pulling against her captures arms as Andy swung his sword down and the larger Demon blocked his advance. She watched in horror as Andy struggled to keep Moranis at a distance and she cried out as the blade of the much larger sword came down on his arm and Andy winced in pain. Lattie held her there, her green skin scaly and rough against Lily’s arms and as the fighting continued Lily found herself being pulled away by Lattie as the female Demon grumbled in her ears.


“Stupid, worthless human…” Lattie snarled as Lily tried in vain to escape and suddenly she found herself on her back with Lattie hovering over her, a sick smirk on her lips as she looked down at Lily.

“Please…let me go…” Lily pleaded, her eyes wide with terror as Lattie looked down at her. The red eyes of the Demon above her made Lily’s stomach twist with fear and she felt her eyes begin to water as Lattie continued to look down at her, her white fangs barred in a sick smirk.

“Please let me go…pathetic.” Lattie mocked Lily as she stayed ontop of her and Lily could hear Andy struggling in the background. What if he died? What would Lily do then?

“Andy!” Lily managed to yell before Lattie slapped a hand over her mouth and jerked Lily’s chin forward with her free hand. Lily wanted to watch Andy fight-to make sure he was okay but Lattie had other plans.


Lily felt the tears streaming down her cheeks as she looked up and was met with Lattie’s red eyes. The Demon was smirking down at her as Lily tried to move her head but was unable to do so with Lattie’s fingers still gripping into her skin, the orange painted claws making marks on her cheeks. Lily could hear Andy fighting with the other Demon and she only wished that she could see him to make sure he was okay, but as Lattie leaned over her Lily noticed that the female Demon had let go of her chin and was rooting around in a bag that was attached to her hip. Suddenly there was a blade in front of Lily’s eyes and she felt her face drain of blood as her eyes grew wide. Was this it? Was this how she was going to finally die?


“Oh little human…please don’t think that Andrus will ever love you. He’s a Demon-like me and we know nothing of love…” Lattie said, her voice low and dangerous as she held the small dagger in her hand and then she seemed to notice the scars that ran across Lily’s wrists.

“Ah, what beautiful scars you have my dear…I have a scar…right here on my heart. Your dear Andy left that there when he refused me and instead began to chase after a pathetic human…you.”Lattie said as she first pointed to her chest and then she reached down and grabbed for one of Lily’s hands, holding her tightly right below her wrist.

“Please…no…” Lily said as she watched as Lattie held up the blade, the cool metal against her skin as Lattie pressed down lightly. Lily felt her skin tear, her warm blood seeping out slowly as Lattie’s smirk grew wider.

“Oh yes. See Andy can’t have you, well at this point he’ll probably die for all of his transgressions, but with your death perhaps he’ll come to realize that loving anything is very, very bad for your health.” Lattie said with gritted teeth as she sliced into Lily’s wrist, opening old wounds slowly as the small girl writhed beneath her in pain.


Lily closed her eyes, her pain numbing slowly as Lattie seemed to stop her assault and everything became silent. Lily tried to remember the past few days-her time with Andy and how truly happy she felt when she was around him. She felt alive again, seeing his eyes light up at the littlest bit of information that she gave him and he wanted so badly to learn how to be human. Lily felt her tears spilling over her cheeks as she realized that she had failed Andy-he would never know what it was like to be human and she would never get to go back home. Suddenly Lily noticed that Lattie was no longer sitting on top of her and as she opened her eyes slowly, Lily was met with a pair of gorgeous baby blues, looking down at her with concern.


“An-Andy?” Lily asked as Andy seemed to relax as he looked down at her, holding out a hand to help her up as Lily looked around. Cal was standing off in the distance, Lattie at his feet holding her head and Lily felt her heart stop as she noticed that Andy was covered in blood and there were Demon parts strewn around them.

“Lily…” Andy said finally, his voice low and careful as he brought her to him as they stood and Lily fell into his arms. He held her tightly to his chest, his lips resting on the top of her head and Lily tried to stop her crying.

“Are you okay?” She asked, looking up at him as Andy reached down, one of his thumbs touching her cheek softly and Lily winced as Andy’s eyes clouded over with anger.

“I’m fine…but she won’t be so lucky…” Andy said as he moved from Lily and approached Cal and Lattie.

“Andy…” Lily moved after him and she felt her eyes grow wide as she approached the two other Demons and noticed that Lattie was holding the back of her head while Cal stood over her, a large brick still clutched in his fingers.

“Andrus…please…” Now Lattie was begging him, her red eyes looking up at him and Andy raised an eyebrow as he looked from Lattie and then trained his eyes on Cal.

“Take her with you and make sure she keeps quiet until we are through the doorway…” Andy said quietly as Cal only nodded and then Andy turned, his hand held out to Lily as she walked forward and took his hand in hers.

“Andy…after you reach Charon and he takes you across the River…Cerberus has to be put asleep before you will be able to get through the doorway…” Cal said as Lattie huffed at his feet and Andy moved closer to the twin Demons.

“How do we make him fall asleep?” Andy asked as Lily stood next to him, her eyes curious as she looked to the Demon before her. Why was he being so helpful? Lily didn’t understand but at this point she didn’t care-she just wanted to go home.

“Music…that’s one of the reasons why music is not allowed down in the Hell Realm. Andy tells me you can sing…” Cal was now facing Lily and she felt her face grow hot as Lily looked from Cal and up to Andy.

“I-uh-yeah I can kind of sing…” She said, moving her fingers to tuck her hair behind her ears as Andy just looked down at her, a small smile on his lips.

“Good…now I can’t go with you past this point. So be careful…Andy…” Cal looked to both of them and Andy let go of Lily’s hand as he approached his best friend slowly.

“…I’ll miss you. Take care of him eh?” Cal addressed Lily, who only nodded as she watched the two Demons embrace and then Andy was back at her side.


Andy reached for her hand and together they slowly walked through the gate and Lily felt a cold sweat break out as Andy began to lead her down a steep set of stone stairs. The air grew colder as they walked down further and further and soon it was almost pitch black, except for the blue glow of the flames coming from the sconces on the walls. Lily could see her breath before her as she continued to follow Andy down and soon they had reached where they needed to be. Andy had stopped moving, his hand gripping her tightly as he looked out before him and felt his heartbeat quicken.


“Are you ready to go home?” Andy asked his voice low as he looked down at Lily. His eyes looked frightened as he took her in and Lily felt herself nod slowly.

“Ye-yes. Are you sure you want to come with me?” Lily asked as Andy only smiled and brought her to him.

Andy wasn’t sure of much at this point-like where they were going to end up in the human world or even what he would do with his life once they got there. But he was sure of one thing and as Andy brought his lips to rest against her forehead, he knew-he would do anything for this girl. He was sure that once he learned how, that Andy could grow to love this tiny human girl who had come into his world and turned it upside down.

So yeah...Andy has a little bit of an anger management problem. Lattie will turn back up, but when?
