We Caught Fire

No Girlfriends Allowed?

The week whirled by and before she knew it, Dess was repacking everything for the tour which was to start the next day. The band, Dess, and Sammi would all be leaving at around two in the morning, which meant that they all had to be at the airport by eleven. Dess knew she was going to need to get some sleep, as sleep on tour was rare and it was already three in the afternoon so she was hustling to get everything done. According to John, the band’s tour manager, they would be arriving in Nuremburg Germany, which was where they would get their bus and meet with Motely before a show that very night. Dess was excited to be seeing the world, shit she had never been anywhere out of the US and being with Andy made it even more exciting.

Andy had such a childlike way of looking at things, especially things that he got excited about and it always made her smile to hear the plans he had for them while they were away. Dess was worried about Dove and Crow, but Trish had offered to watch the two kittens and it took a small amount of stress out of her mind. Andy was beyond excited, he jumped into every new adventure feet first and this tour was no exception. He talked endlessly about what was going to happen, where they would be and what they would see on a daily basis. To Dess it seemed like Andy was more excited to show her around Europe than he was about experiencing it himself.

There was one thing that Andy was super stoked about-touring with his long time idol Nikki Sixx. God that boy idolized Nikki and now that they would be touring with them it was either Nikki or Europe-Andy would not talk about anything else. He went over with Dess, almost daily, about the things that Nikki had done to inspire Andy. She thought it was cute and it made her giggle even just thinking about it. Smiling and laughing softly as she folded shirts, Dess didn’t even realize that she was being watched from the doorway.

“Something amusing about folding my shirts?” Andy asked from the doorway and Odessa felt herself jump at the break in the silence. She looked to him and then her eyes scanned down to the shirt she held in her hands and all she could do was a cock an eyebrow at him.

“No, but the fact that you’re calling this scrap of fabric a shirt is pretty hilarious.” She smirked over at him as she held up the shirt once more before folding it and placing it with the others. Andy had gotten into the fashion sense of cutting all of the arms, necks and almost the entire side out of all of his shirts and now they hung loosely off of his lanky frame.

“Ha-Ha. Can you pack one of my suits too? We’re nominated at the Kerrang Awards this year and I don’t know if I’ll have time to stop and get anything.” He smiled down at her as Dess just nodded and avoided eye contact with him as she continued to fold things and place them into the black leather suitcase.

“Will I be joining you this time?” She asked, which was futile as Odessa knew the answer to this question and she felt her teeth clench in anger. Girlfriends were never invited to any of award shows that the guys attended and it always made Dess uncomfortable and she knew it bothered Sammi and Ella as well.

“I-I’m not sure. Pack something just in case.” He shuffled his feet from side to side and it was clear to Dess that Andy was uncomfortable at her line of questioning.

“Wishful thinking.” Her voice was bitter as she spat the words out at him and it didn’t go unnoticed as Dess saw Andy wince as he held his hands up in front of him defensively. Here we go.

“Look, you girls know if it were up to us you would be there. They never give us enough tickets to these things and sometimes it can’t be helped.” He winced once again as Dess finally looked up at him, her eyes slits as she glared at him and just threw another folded shirt in to the suitcase.

“Sure. Even though John is the one giving out the final head count for your table.” Andy didn’t know what to say to that so he just didn’t the smart thing and said nothing.

Wrong move Biersack.

“Of course! Of course you have nothing to say to that little fact do you?! It doesn’t fucking matter…not to you and not to me.” Dess spat out at him, her anger rising to dangerous levels as her eyes grew wide and her skin began to feel hot and uncomfortable.

“What do you want me to say Dess?! Tell me what to say to make it better and I’ll fucking say it!” He tossed his hands up in the air, fed up and tired of always feeling like he never tried hard enough for her. Andy felt his face grow red in his anger and he tried to take in a deep breath to calm himself before he said anything to make things worse than they already were.

“Nothing! Just go! I will pack your precious suit and all of your other shit…just leave me alone!” Dess felt her cheeks flush as she looked down at the article of clothing that she held in her hands and she knew that Andy had noticed as well. His leather tour vest from last summer. Their summer. The same vest she had worn that night of his birthday when she had finally confessed her love for him. Dess felt the tears come to her eyes as she let the vest fall to the bed and she slumped down beside it.

“You looked so sexy in that…maybe you should wear it again for me later…” Andy’s eyes had grown soft as he moved to stand in front of her. He reached out, his fingers gently lifting her chin up so that he could look into those beautiful green eyes of hers.

“You used to look pretty sexy in it too if I remember correctly.” She smirked up at him and he blushed softly. They both got lost in their thoughts of that previous summer and how special it had been that they had met and become best friends before being lovers. Had it really almost been a year since they had first met? It seemed more like a lifetime.

“I kind of miss those days…especially my hair.” He pouted down at her as he reached up and tried to fluff his now much shortened locks.

“So grow it out again…” Dess said as she turned back to packing and realized that in her anger she had packed all of Andy’s things and now just had her own.

“I was thinking about growing out the front and the back, but leaving the sides shaved. Do you think that would look stupid?” He asked, his voice hopeful as he looked to Dess and frowned. She wasn’t even looking at him, instead she was focused on packing her clothes into her huge black suitcase.

“I don’t think so…try it out and see I guess. I’m going to bring a few nice dresses just incase we go out at some point.” She looked up at him and Andy noticed that her eyes were tired and her lips didn’t hold that bright smile that he loved so much. He looked down, noticing the tight red dress that she held in her hands and he nodded his head vigorously as she just laughed and turned back to packing.

“I love you…you know that right?” He asked, coming to her slowly as she looked up at him. Her eyes were so sad and Andy knew that the stress of this tour was already starting to get to Dess and he was worried that she wouldn’t be able to handle it.

“I love you too.” She said softly, kissing his neck as she moved from the room and headed off towards their bathroom. He smiled-their fight was obviously forgotten and yet Andy still felt guilty. He knew that Dess, all of the girlfriends really, were feeling a bit left out with never being able to attend the award shows, but it really wasn’t the band’s call to make.

As she packed up her makeup, Dess looked into the mirror and sighed. She did love Andy. She loved him more than she had ever thought it was possible to love another human being, but she was starting to see things about his life that she didn’t like. Her, Sammi, and Ella all seemed to be pushed towards the background a lot of the time. Dess knew that it was to appease the twelve and thirteen year old fans-the ones who forever wanted the guys to be single and available for them to fantasize about. That wasn’t reality though and what was going to happen once the guys started getting married? Her and Andy had talked about it and she knew that Sammi and Jinxx were planning on getting married in October. What were the fans going to do then?

Thankfully all three of the girls were successful in their own right, Dess with her comic career, Sammi with her band and her photography and Ella was a gorgeous girl with a rising modeling career. All three of them had bonded, but Sammi and Dess had grown closer over their shared annoyance with the boys ever growing fame and the feeling that the girls were being left in the dust half the time. Dess was just happy that things at DC had finally settled down and she didn’t need to be in the office constantly. She also was feeling more inspired recently and she knew it was because she wasn’t constantly looking at the same four walls.

Her talent had grown and there had been some discussions with her supervisors about her taking on an independent project for DC. That meant that not only would she illustrate, but she would also come up with the concept and storyline for a new Batman comic that was scheduled to come out the following winter. The Dark Knight Rises was also coming out in less than a month and Dess was very excited to see the finished product that she had helped to create.

Speaking of movies, the band was really excited that they had been asked to write and record a song for the new Avengers movie that was due out in less than a month. Not only that but they all, girlfriends included this time, were going to the London premier for it in late June and Dess could not wait. She loved Batman, but Dess also held a secret love for Iron Man in her heart and being that close to Robert Downey Jr. and being able to see him on the big screen was almost intoxicating to her. This drove Andy up the wall of course, so Dess tried to keep as quiet about it as she could. Dess smiled, she loved getting Andy all riled up and as she finished packing up her bathroom things she walked out towards the living room and came upon Andy laying on the couch.

“Everything is all packed up. I think I’m going to try and go get some sleep before we have to head to the airport.” Dess said quietly in to the room and Andy looked up at her from his Kindle and smiled softly.

“Thank you so much for doing that babe. I think I’ll join you actually. I’m not too tired but I know the first few days of this tour are going to wipe us all out so I want to get as much sleep as I can. Plus I’ll miss sleeping next to you if I don’t come back there…” He said, smiling brightly as he set down his Kindle and he moved to pick up Crow before standing up. Dess smiled and reached down, scooping Dove in to her hands. The small kitten had been sleeping on the back of the couch, but she didn’t seem to mind being moved by her mommy. The couple quietly headed back towards the bedroom, Andy shutting any lights off on his way.

“Time for bed my lovely Dove.” Dess smiled down at the small white kitten as she entered the bedroom and sat the small animal down as she began to undress.

“How come I don’t get an adorable nickname?” Andy pouted from behind her as he entered the room, Crow fast asleep in his arms as he too moved to set the cat down on the bed so that he could change.

“Because you aren’t fluffy, white, or my precious baby.” Dess spoke in a soft baby voice as she got under the covers and snuggled Dove onto her pillow. The kitten’s soft fur felt nice against her skin and Dess yawned loudly as she looked over at Andy and smirked.

“…my eyes are prettier though.” He continued to pout as Andy shut off the light and joined her under the covers. He was adorable when he pouted and all Dess could do was smile over at him.

“Of course they are…” She moved over so that her head was resting lightly on his chest, her ear coming to lay on top of his heart and she placed a soft kiss to his skin before closing her eyes and settling in.

“Dess?” Andy asked quietly out in to the darkness as he placed an arm over her chest and pulled her closer to him. He loved being with her like this-they both felt so at peace and it was as if nothing could touch them in this moment.

“Hmm?” Her voice was quiet and sleepy and Andy felt tired himself but he had to get this out before it exploded.

“Do you regret meeting me?” His voice was soft as he asked this and Dess moved so that she could look into his eyes. Andy was looking down at her, his eyes shining in the soft glow from the window and Dess felt her heart drop.

“What? Where is this coming from?” She asked, her voice urgent as she felt her heart begin to race. Andy looked down at her and felt bad-he hadn’t wanted to upset her and slowly he reached a hand out and cupped her cheek gently.

“Just answer the question babe. It’s okay…I was just wondering.” His eyes were serious but soft and Dess could feel his heart racing in his chest as she laid there almost on top of him.

“I regret nothing about our relationship. You are my best friend and I am thankful that we waited as long as we did before making things serious…I think it’s made us stronger not just as a couple but as individuals in general.” She spoke confidently and meant every word of it. Andy still held and unsure look in his eyes as she stared her down and Odessa felt herself shiver in the darkness under his gaze.

“Do you blame me for Moira’s death?” She was shocked at his question and Dess silently wondered if she had said or done something to put this line of thinking in to Andy’s head.

“How could I? She died of something unstoppable Andy…” She felt the tears as they pricked her eyes and Odessa just let them flow freely down her cheeks.

“Are you angry because I couldn’t save her?”This was getting ridiculous. Where was all of this coming from? Dess sighed loudly before laying back down and shutting her eyes against the darkness and her tears.

“Don’t be silly. I love you. Now goodnight.” Andy felt her lay back down, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. He felt it deep in his bones and he knew-all wasn’t right in their world.

“Well you’re angry about something Dess. Night babe…love you.” With that the couple became silent as they both tried to get some sleep.

Was she angry? Fuck-Dess was furious at life and things in general and as she laid there Dess thought things over. She was angry with her father, her mother and in a small way she was angry at Andy. Moira had loved him and the band so much and he had saved so many other people, why not his biggest fan? Dess was angry at Andy, but she still loved him no matter what.

Right?
