We Caught Fire

Too Much Shark Week

“Andy! Don’t tell me you’re afraid of getting in the Ocean!” Dess laughed as she turned back to face the shore line. She was already waist deep in the warm water, which was weird for her because Dess was so used to the near freezing Atlantic, while Andy was still standing on shore, his toes not even wet at this point.

“No! I’m just afraid of what could be lurking down around your feet!” He called out to her and Dess looked down instinctively and laughed as she watched Andy dip his toes into the surf slowly. He inched his way in closer, his eyes darting around him until finally Andy had reached where she was standing. The water came to Dess’ waist and she laughed as she looked to Andy noticed that the water barely reached the top of his swim trunks.

“You watch too much Shark Week!” Dess smiled up at him and then reached out towards him as waves began to crash around them, pushing her forward slightly. Andy looked down, smiling as he noticed how much the sun shone off of Dess’ blonde hair and he bent slightly, placing a soft kiss to the top of her head.

“I just thought we would come here, hang out on the sand and then maybe take a long walk later. I didn’t think you would actually want to get in the water…” His smirk was adorable and Dess just rolled her eyes as she smiled up at him and jumped up as a wave came crashing through.

“Now what fun would that be?” She asked playfully as she swept her hand across the surface of the water and brought it up so that it splashed against his pale chest gently.

The two of them laughed as they splashed around in the water and jumped waves and at one point Andy had picked Dess up, holding her underneath her knees before letting her drop back down into the water. She screeched as she hit the waves and for a moment he felt bad, until she popped back up and proceeded to jump on his back, causing both of them to topple over towards the water. Andy took great joy in watching Dess bounce around and he laughed really hard when finally all of her bouncing had caused the strings of her teal bikini top to come undone. He helped her tie everything, but not before taking a quick peek at her almost bared chest. After some time in the water the couple ran to the beach, breathless and smiling as they collapsed into their chairs.

“So are you ready to go back overseas?” Dess asked softly, her head leaning back against her chair as she looked over towards Andy. She smiled as she took in his appearance, his black hair, which was short and spikey now, almost seemed to glow in the light of the sun.

“Yeah, I can’t wait for you to see the rest of Europe. I want to take you to Paris…especially to see the Eiffel Tower at night with all of the lights. You’ll love all of the art there Dess-it is absolutely amazing.” His smile was infectious at this and Dess couldn’t help but feel more excited.

“Sounds good to me.” There was a soft sadness to her voice as Dess looked out towards the Ocean. The waves were rolling in and she smiled as she saw dolphins off in the distance with children playing loudly in the surf. She bit down on her lip softly as Dess moved her gaze further down towards the beach where two little girls played in the sand while their parents watched.

Moira used to love the beach and would beg and beg Dess to take her there every summer. They had gone as a family when they were kids and Dess smiled as she remembered how much she used to love watching Moira running through the sand, her once long blonde hair flowing out behind her as she would run towards the water and back. They used to almost look like twins at that age, both of them having light green eyes and blonde hair and the only reason people could tell them apart was because Dess was older and therefore taller. Dess missed seeing Moira’s blonde hair-it made her feel connected to her younger sister, but once Des started dyeing her own hair and Moira’s blonde locks were colored black-that connection seemed to falter.

“Why do you look so sad all of a sudden?” Andy’s deep voice shook Dess out of her thoughts and she smiled softly as she looked over at him. Andy would never know what it was like to lose a sibling and Odessa was thankful that he would never feel the pain and anger that she was currently going through.

“Just some memories. I feel like they’re going to haunt me for the rest of my life.” She said sadly and Andy reached over, his fingers brushing against her cheek lightly as she inhaled a deep breath to keep her tears at bay.

“One day you will be able to look back on all of your memories of Moira and instead of crying you’re going to smile.” Andy knew deep down that that day was far off and that there was a chance it would never come but he had to keep faith. He had to be the light at the end of tunnel for Dess.

“I know. I just feel bad, like I’m moving on and leaving her behind by doing all of the things that I know she would have wanted to be doing right now. Shit sometimes I even feel bad for us being together since she loved you so damn much.” She laughed softly, her laughter keeping her tears at bay as Dess took in a shaky breath and looked over at Andy.

“You can’t stop living Dess. Moira would never have wanted that for you.” Andy leaned over and placed his lips against hers, ending the conversation. Their kiss was slightly salty from the water and Odessa felt herself smile as he pulled away and smirked down at her.

The two of them sat like that for a while, watching as families passed them by and Andy smiled as he watched as a small blonde haired blue eyed girl let out a squeal as her father came from behind her and scooped her up. Andy wanted that-he wanted to be a father and to watch his own children yell out in joy and excitement. Even more than that, Andy wanted his children to look like Dess, for his little girl to have moss green eyes, light blonde hair and that adorable dimple on one cheek. He wanted this so that his Odessa would live on forever and then he would have two wonderful girls in his life to cherish. Looking up and out towards the water, Andy finally noticed that the sun was beginning to set.

“Shall we walk for a bit?” He held out his hand for Dess to take and smiled softly as he noticed that Odessa had been watching the same father and daughter as the family strolled past them. Would she want the same things as him? Andy wasn’t sure, but it was too soon to be thinking about that.

Odessa smiled over at Andy as they both stood and headed North on the beach, their footprints being the only thing left in their wake as they walked hand in hand. She giggled as Andy pulled her down towards the surf and the chilled water tickled her feet as the waves came crashing in. Their hands swung in rhythm and Odessa looked out towards the water as they walked along in a peaceful silence. The light blue water shone in the sinking sunlight, the clouds had been painted in varying shades of red, orange and finally a deep pink was casted over the horizon as night began to fall. The sound of the waves and the salty smell in the air was calming to her nerves and Dess felt her anger subside momentarily before it surged back up and gripped her stomach.

She looked down at their clasped hands, a small smile coming to her lips as she thought back to their first encounter. She had never expected to meet someone on that hot July day, let alone someone like Andy and she certainly had never thought that they would fall in love. Dess knew that at first they were attracted to one another through lust-she wanted Andy and he most definitely wanted her, but she was happy that they had held back. They were stronger for it and they would continue to grow stronger. God how things had changed since that summer. Andy had done a complete 180 in his looks alone, not that it really mattered to Dess, but it certainly seemed to matter to some of his fans. Dess knew that she had changed too-she was far less reserved in how she looked and dressed and she felt happy knowing that she was finally getting back to being the old Dess.

Their relationship as a whole had changed over the past year, but it was all in good ways. Odessa felt more comfortable around Andy, something that she never thought possible since he made her so at ease anyways. To her, Andy seemed to only grow more and more affectionate towards her, always wanting to touch her or kiss her, but lately he seemed to be pulling back and getting serious about his music. She would often find him huddled in some corner of the apartment, usually in her studio, scribbling things down hastily as he muttered to himself. Dess knew it was only temporary, at least she hoped so.

“Ready to head back home?” Andy asked and Dess felt her thoughts melt away as she noticed that at some point they had turned around on the beach and were now back where they had been sitting originally. Most of the families had retired back to their cars or their beach houses and Odessa looked around and enjoyed the momentary silence.

“What? Oh yeah…it’s getting pretty late.” She smiled over at him, noticing that it was pretty dark now and she could only make out a rough outline of the waves crashing in the Ocean. She moved to bend down to pick up her chair, but her hands were swatted away playfully by Andy.

“I got it babe.” Andy moved so that he could grab her chair and in one smooth motion he was back up, their chairs and her bag held in his hands as he turned and began to head off towards the beach access that they had parked at.

“Thanks.” Dess followed behind him silently, smirking as she noticed his slim hips and thin waist. His skin was pale in the moonlight, his tattoos standing out starkly against his white flesh and Odessa felt herself blush deeply. Andy looked really, really, good in swim trunks.

“Like what you see?” Shit. He had obviously caught her staring at him as she followed from behind and now he had turned to face her and was smirking down at her devilishly in the moonlight. She just smiled as she walked past him and reached the car.

“I dunno…CC probably looks pretty good in swim trunks too. He’s got those unbelievably tiny hips and everything…” She smiled evilly up at him before moving to open the door and get into the passengers seat.

“Oh really? Can CC do this?” Andy’s voice was gruff in her ear as his large hands gripped her around her waist as he spun her around to face him. He moved closer to her, his crotch pressing against her lightly as he smirked down at her with that lopsided grin that he knew she loved.

“Mmm…he could. But it wouldn’t be the same.” She leaned back against the car, her arms reaching out to drape around his neck as she looked up at him and smirked.

“Damn right.” He said before leaning down and placing a rough kiss against her lips. His lip ring crushed against her mouth and he smirked against her as he pulled away, pulling her with him slightly as he reached down, his hand coming down against her butt before he move to get into the car.

Dess got into the car, the smirk still lying on her lips as she buckled her seat belt and rested her head against the head rest of her seat. She had always loved how playfully sexy Andy could be. Even better-she loved that he was all hers.

Notes

Who knew that Andy was such a scaredy cat? Or that he looked so sexy in swimtrunks?
