We Caught Fire

Old Routines Die Hard

“Crow! Come here buddy!” Andy called out in to the silent and almost empty apartment. He smiled as his black and white kitten poked its head out from underneath the couch and looked up at him. A soft meow could be heard and Andy sank to his knees as he motioned for the small cat to come closer.

“Dove?!” Dess called out, setting her bags down by the door as she smiled softly at seeing her small white kitten poke her head out from underneath the couch. Obviously Dove and Crow had been napping together, impatiently waiting for their parents to come home.

“I missed you buddy. Did Sammi take good care of you while we were away?” Andy asked the kitten as he scooped the little guy into his hands and moved to stand up. He nuzzled Crow against his cheek and smiled as he looked over at Dess, who was still coaxing Dove out of her hiding spot.

“I think they missed us.” Dess laughed as she bent down and picked up the fluffy white kitten. Andy smiled over at her and then laughed loudly as Crow reached out and began to lick him on the chin. His tongue was rough on Andy’s skin, but he didn’t care, he was just happy to be home with his little family once again.

“My lovely Dove missed her mommy…” Andy said as he leaned down and kissed Dess softly on the mouth. Their lips were warm against one another’s and Andy felt peaceful at this lapse back into normalcy. They laughed as they pulled out of the kiss and noticed that Crow had swiveled his tiny head around and placed a swift lick to the top of Dove’s head.

Dess hadn’t been so sure when Andy had told her that he was thinking of getting them each a kitten. Who would take care of them when they were away? Neither one of them was home long enough to really take care of an animal and was it really fair to have a pet and not be able to love it? He had gotten them anyways and even though they had only been able to see the two babies for a short period of time before Moira got sick, both Andy and Dess fell in love almost instantly. It always made Dess smile when she would catch Andy cuddling with Crow. He looked tough on the outside, which it was always funny to Dess to hear people say that they were scared of Andy, but whenever she saw him with that kitten it made her melt. It also showed Dess that Andy would probably make a really great father someday, even though he claimed he was terrified of babies.

“So what do you want to do for dinner?” Dess asked as she set Dove down, placing a small kiss to the kitten’s head before moving over to where Andy stood, Crow still in his arms. She scratched the male cat behind his ears gently, making him purr and Andy smiled down at her softly.

“I could go for some Chinese. I don’t want you to cook…I know how tired you always are after we travel.” Andy kissed her forehead before moving to set Crow down on the couch next to where Dove was currently cleaning herself. Andy moved then to grab the bags as he smirked down at Dess.

Odessa smiled over at him as she watched Andy begin to move all of their bags back towards the bedroom so that they could be unpacked. She flopped down on the couch, grabbing the takeout menu before curling up against the soft pillows and she began to dial. She ordered their food, making sure to include Andy’s favorites with the hope that it would keep him in the good mood he was currently showing her. She sat there and looked around their apartment, smiling as she took in her own art that graced their walls, along with some of the other art that Andy had already purchased for himself. Sighing Dess looked at the clock, realizing that Andy had been in the back for almost an hour and her stomach grumbled loudly. Thankfully the doorbell rang and Dess jumped up to retrieve their order.

“Babe!” Dess called towards the back of the apartment, her arms full of food as she made her way into the kitchen. Everything smelled delicious and Dess couldn’t wait to finally sit down with Andy and relax for a quiet night in.

No answer came from the back and Dess just figured that Andy was maybe in the shower, washing the travel grime off and she considered doing the same after they ate. She pulled the white containers out of the paper bags and sat them on the kitchen counter. She reached into a side drawer and pulled out Andy’s chopsticks, black and glossy in this light and sat them next to the takeout as she grabbed the now empty bags and crumbled them up to place them in the trash. The room smelled delicious and Dess inhaled appreciatively as her stomach grumbled once more. Where was Andy? Dess began to walk quietly towards the bedroom, listening carefully for the sound of the shower. There was no sound of running water and as she turned the corner into their room, Dess felt a small smile come to her lips as she looked in from the doorway.

Andy was stretched out on the bed, his long legs crossed at the ankles and his lanky arms were up above his head, his hands resting on the pillow as he snoozed. Crow was fast asleep, Dess could even hear the kitten snoring slightly, on Andy’s chest. Dove was curled up a little farther down on Andy’s lap and Dess smiled as the small kitten cracked one sleepy blue eye open and looked up at her. All three were asleep and Dess felt her heart swell with love at the sight of her little family there on the bed all snuggled close.

“Andy…” She called to him softly from the doorway before moving over to shake his shoulder gently.

“Hmmm…” He mumbled softly, his eyebrows raising but he kept his eyes closed. Dess laughed as Crow looked up at her, peeking one eye open and glaring at her for her intrusion into his kitty dreams.

“Food’s here.” She leaned down and kissed his lips softly before she moved from the bed and smiled as he stretched his arms and his blue eyes cracked open sleepily.

Dess walked back out to the kitchen and tried to finish unpacking their dinner. Everything was still steaming slightly and Dess smiled as she moved to the fridge and removed two beers and sat them down on the table. Just as she popped the top on her own beer Andy appeared in the doorway, his eyes still sleepy and she could tell his voice was groggy as he cleared his throat a few times before rubbing his eyes and sitting down at the table.

“What did you get? It smells delicious.” He yawned and Dess just laughed at him as she first handed him his beer and then his chopsticks.

“I got those Egg Roll you really like. Crab Rangoon, Honey Chicken, Beef Lo Mein, Combination Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork and some Curry Chicken.” Dess smirked over at Andy as she reached near his elbow for the container of Honey Chicken and with her own chopstick she began to eat a few pieces.

“Jesus…you feeding an army?” He laughed before biting into the eggroll that he was currently holding and he quickly shut his eyes and savored his food. Dess smirked over at him as he moaned appreciatively before taking another bite.

“Well I figured we could just eat leftovers the next few days before we head on tour.” Dess said as Andy just nodded and reached over to grab the container of lo mien. The couple dug in, eating in comfortable silence as the two kittens chased one another underneath the table.

Soon the two of them were absolutely stuffed and had retired to the couch. They watched a movie, Andy had begrudgingly put Iron Man in at Dess’ request and only grumbled about it for the first few minutes before settling down. Dess was leaning up against the pillows, while Andy had his head resting on her stomach lightly. Dess ran her fingers through his soft hair and smiled lightly as she felt Andy’s fingers rubbing at her legs gently. Chills traveled up her spine at his touch and Odessa closed her eyes, finally feeling herself relax as they laid there.

“I missed this…” She said quietly and it was true. All through Moira’s final days and Dess’ mourning at her loss the couple had avoided being intimate. Andy hadn’t wanted to push Dess into anything and Dess was just too sad to really want to feel anything other than pain.

“I’ve missed you in general Dess.” Andy said, flipping over so that he was on his stomach and was looking up at her with his chin resting gently on her stomach, right below her belly button.

“Well we have a few days before the tour starts. We should go do something tomorrow.” She smiled as Andy got that boyish grin on his face. He moved up her body slowly, his shirt dragging against hers until he finally hovered over at her and their noses were almost touching.

“Beach trip?” He asked, his lips against her skin as he moved up and began to nibble gently on her earlobe.

“Mmm sounds good…” She sighed softly as she felt his fingers kneading at the soft flesh of her stomach. She felt on fire at his touch and Dess felt her own fingers reach out and tangle themselves into his silky hair.

Andy said nothing as he continued to trail hot kisses across Dess’ flushed and heated skin, his lips curving up into that smirk as he reached out and sucked gently on the area right above her collarbones. His fingers trailed lower while his teeth scrapped across her skin and finally his finger tips began to play with the top of her shorts and he heard her sigh loudly at his touch. He was quick as in an instant Dess felt Andy touch her, his fingers moving gently inside her as he continued to suck gently on her neck. She felt her hips buck up, meeting his touch urgently as she smiled as she felt his lips curve up into that smirk once again.

“Enjoying yourself down there?” She asked, her voice low and gravelly as Andy just nodded his head and moved so that his face was up near hers once again. Andy’s eyes were bright blue as he looked down at her and Dess smiled as she could see his love for her shining down from within.

“Always…” He smirked at her once again before pressing his lips down on to hers. His lip ring was cool against her lips, which were flushed and pink from her excitement and she heard him growl as she bit down and tugged gently at his lip ring.

Odessa felt Andy’s lips leave hers and she smiled as she felt him moving down her body, giving her butterfly kisses as he slowly crept south. He lifted up her shirt, kissing the heated skin of her stomach before finally moving down to his goal. She gasped as his mouth found her and his tongue replaced the position that his fingers had once been in. Her hands reached out, her fingers grasping at his hair as he continued his teasing.

“Andy…” She heard herself moan and smirked as she felt his fingers grasp her underneath her knees and grunted as he tugged them up so that they were bent. She felt hot and dizzy and Dess knew that she was going to explode from within at any moment.

“Oh…” Her head flew back as the pressure over took her and Dess felt his lips smirk against her as his fingers trailed lazy patterns over the heated and flushed skin of her legs.

“You called?” He laughed as he sat up and Dess peeked one eye open at him. He was sitting on the end of the couch, his blue eyes devious looking and she just shook her head.

“What was that about?” She asked finally as she moved to sit up and watched as Andy took a sip of his beer and then smirked over at her. God that smirk…not matter how long they stayed together, Dess knew that that smirk would always make her whole body tingle.

“I just love you and I said I missed you.” He said, his eyes innocent looking as he leaned over from his side of the couch and touched his lips to hers. The kiss was gentle and loving and Dess felt herself melt into it instantly.

“Maybe you should miss me more often.” She giggled as she reached over to grab her empty bottle and they both moved to stand up. They moved about the room in silence, Andy heading back towards the bedroom while Dess walked into the kitchen and began to clean up their dinner.

They still needed to unpack all of their things and Dess sighed because she knew that in a week everything would just have to be packed up once again. She actually liked touring with the guys, it was nice seeing different things every day and seeing the guys do what they loved every night. Dess smiled as she placed all of their leftovers into the fridge and turned so that she was leaning up against the counter. She looked around, her smile spreading wider as she felt like maybe things were finally getting back to normal.
