Fight for F.E.A.R.

Discovery

Blair's POV
I let my hands fall away from Audreys side. I was so drained. CC caught me as I collapsed back onto the cot. As gently as moving a glass vase, he layed my torso back onto the cot and my head on the make shift pillow. Audrey stared down at her half way closed wound, eyes wide. Everyone is staring at me.
"What the-" Jake whispers, barely audible. His hand brushes trendy over the now scarred skin surrounding the wound.
"She's a healer," Maria says in awe.
"Why didnt you tell me?" Audrey asks as her eyes dart back to me.
"I didn't...know." I pant. "Something...just told me...to do it."
"Child, you have a wonderful gift," Maria says as she steps forward and grabs my hand. "You home a very very sacred and special gift. You have the ability to heal wounds and other ailments. This is a true talent, indeed!"

"That is pretty cool, all I can do is punch things," CC jokes from my bedside.
"I can't do anything," Audrey says sullenly.
"Don't doubt yourself," Jake whispers into Audreys neck as he gently wraps an arm around her waist. What's going on between them? Audrey has a fiancé. She's already given away. We've only been here a week. That's so not like her. She used to be awkward as hell around guys and now shes just letting this...guy be handsy?
Audreys face flares fire red. "Thanks," she says as she blushes.
"I'm so tired now. I need to...rest," I say as I shakily pull the blanket up again.
CC fixes the blanket and my pillow. "Let Maria now if you need anything. I'll be back later, but if you need me then have Maria send for me." he says. He leans down and kisses my hand as he turns and leaves the tent.

Audreys POV
If I wasn't already suspicious I would say CC likes Blair, and she likes him back judging by the stupid grin on her face and the heat in her cheeks. She rolls into her side and curls up. Jake follows me to the other side of the tent. My stomach suddenly let's out a massive growl.
"Well, haha, I guess someone's a little hungry?" he jokes.
I reach out and punch his arm. "A little, where can I get some food?"
"Here," he said as he carefully placed a hand on the small of my back. "Follow me."

We left Blair in the infirmary tent with Maria. I followed Jake back toward the area we had been this morning. "Technically, no one besides us is supposed to be in the building where we stay, but it has the best food in it." He led me back to large building with the Legion writing on it. I was hesitant to get on the rusting metal ladder that lead up to the top level of the building, it must have been the old fire escape. Jake assured me it wouldn't collapse and led me up the stairs. Once at the top, he opened a heavy metal door into a large living area. Two large old couches, one leather and one cloth were positioned in the center of the room with a small splintery wood table in front of them. A small kitchen was set up in the corner. A small hallway led down to some other part. Jake motioned for me to take a seat on one of the empty couches.
"Jake?"
"Hmm?" he replied as he walked over to kitchen and began rifling through the cabinets.
"Where is everyone else?" I asked quietly.
Jake continues rummaging. "Well," he begins as he pulls out a heavily worn flat stove pan. "Andy is probably walking around with Jinxx getting things sorted out in the camp. Ashley is either kissing up to Andy or screwing around with the ladies again. CC probably went off to help by the tower. There's still a lot of pure water in it and CCs trying to help figure out an easier way to get the water out. If you want it now, you have to climb uo ten feet with a bucket, unless you want to drink from the reservoir on the south side of camp, but the waters practically black in there. If it gets mixed enough with th black sand around it it literally becomes black paint almost."
"Is that where you get your warrior paint from? I noticed everyone has the remnants of paint on their face, and you guys all have it on, I mean the leaders."
"Yeah, we wear it to be identified to the Wild Ones. We each do ours a specific way. Also, if the shadows attack, we are masked usually and even if they get the mask off, our faces are usually not identifiable with all the black paint. Speaking of that, we should get you and Blair some masks."
"Jake, are the Shadows going to try to attack us?" my voice was strained, childlike.
"I don't know." The room begins to smell delightful. I stand up and walk over to the kitchen area. Jake has two pieces of curred and salted meat cooking in the pan over a small fire. He is using a small pocket knife to cut up some fruits. He pulls down a few metal trays and puts the food On them. He hands me one and we return to the couch. He sits very close to me on the leather seat. "I hope you like it, I'm not the best cook but I'm better than Andy, CC, or Ashley. Jinxx usually accidentally charrs everything he tries to cook so he just stopped for the sake of us not starving."
I laugh as I tear a piece of meat off. "Maybe I'll cook you guys something."
"Oh, will you now? Can you actually cook?"
"Well, my mom died when I was young, so I had to learn very early to care for everyone, even though I was the youngest I was the only girl in my house, so I got the woman role," I reveiled quietly.
"That's horrible, I'm sorry Audrey. You know that's something I really hate," he says as he swallows another bite.
"What's that?"
"The way that since civilization fell, men have reverted women to property."
"Welcome to life, its not fair."
"I'm sorry, Audrey. I hope you know that I'm not like that."
"I can see that you are different Jake. There's something...special about you," I say with the heat beginning to rise to my face. "You know...I'm glad Isring was attacked. If I was home right now...I would be reverted to a house wife."
"In a few years you mean right?" he asks.
"No, now. My dad had promised my hand to his friends son."
"Oh...Wow."
"I hate the man, he always bullied me when we were younger, and when I was six I had to stop my schooling to take care of the house. When I matured he saw me again and claimed me as his future wife."
"That's acceptable in Isring?"
"That's life there. I was supposed to be married to him...today actually. But, Jake, you should know, he's a horrible person. I hate myself for saying it, but I hope the Shadows killed him. He was so horrible to me..."
"It's OK, Audrey you're safe now." he set his plate asked and wrapped an arm around my back and waist. I leaned my head down and rested it on his shoudler. "Do you want to tell me what happened?"
I sigh. "Him and my dad agreed that I was too educated on the situation with the impending attack of the Shadows. My brothers are all in the guard for the village and my youngest brother was the one who told me everything. I was scared. I asked my father what we were supposed to do, and my fiance hit me, right across the face. He said it was improper for his bride to speak of war at dinner. No one cared that he had hit me. It wasn't the first time, and damn well wasn't the last."
"What a bastard. Audrey," he said as he pulled back, he gently cupped my face. "I will never hit you. That's the stupidest thing any boy could do, and I mean boy, because no man hits a woman." His chocolate eyes bored into my green eyes. "You are a beautiful girl, and deserve so much better than him." I realized just how close I was to him. His nose was almost touching mine. I let out a nervous breath and he looked in my eyes, searching. My god, I'd never realized just how handsome he was. His long black hair was surrounding his face. He slowly moved closer, his eyes examining mine. I leaned in too, leaning slightly to the right. I closed my eyes, closing the small gap. His lips brush lightly against mine as we slowly pucker into a gentle kiss. Oh my god. He's kissing me. I've never been kissed before...I...I like this.

Our lips parted and I remained with my eyes closed as he rested his forehead against mine. My lips still buzzed with the feeling of his lips over them. I leaned forward again, reconnecting our lips. He placed his hands on my sides and I reached around his neck and locked my hands together again. His lips touched mine and parted gently, passionately, for a few times. He pulled back. My heart is fluttering like a hummingbird, my veins are pulsing, my chest pounding.
"Jake?"
"Hmm?"
"You are right, I don't deserve him." I said as I opened my eyes, hands still around his neck as I gazed into his eyes. "I deserve much better. Thank you." I gently peck his lips once. He pulled me into a careful hug, not touching my wound.
"You're welcome." He had a half smile smirk painting his face.

What is happening?
