Fight for F.E.A.R.

Healing

Blair's POV
My throat feels raw. My stomach feels like its been tied in several knots. My head hurts so badly. I can't even open my eyes because they feel glued together. I suddenly feel a damp cloth wipe over my eyelids, applying light pressure. I open my eyes, weakily. I am staring into the aged eyes of a woman. She has tanned skin and black hair, which is greying at the roots. She has a gentle face.
"Welcome back, Blair," she says quietly as she wipes off my face.
I clear my throat but it's full off mucus. She reaches over to a small wooden table and hands me a small cup of water. Her hand tilts my head forward, and I take a small, careful sip. I clear my throat again as she sets it back down. "Thanks. Who...are you?" I ask weakily. My lungs hurt from the small exertion.
"I am Maria, I am the care taker of the infirmary. You are at the Camp of the Wild Ones," she had a motherly tone.
"Where's...Audrey?" I wheezed.
"She is out with the Mourner on a short walk, she should return anytime. Please rest Ms. Blair. You've been passed out for a few days now, and you're very weak right now. I'd be willing to bet you have quite a bit of sand in your lungs and it's going to hurt to breathe for a weeks, until works it's way out, and that's going to be painful too."

Oh great, just peachy. I know no one and now I'm going to be trapped here for God knows how long. "Well, thank you...for your help." I hate this, I feel like I'm croaking. My throat feels like its been rubbed over with sandpaper and my lungs hurt like I've been smashed in the chest with a baseball bat. I lean my head back on the pillow.
Maria walks over to the tent flap. She opens it and I can see the shadow of someone. She glances back in at me and says a few other things. She holds open the flap and a tall man with long black hair steps in. He is only wearing a leather vest on his torso, a bandana holds the hair out of his eyes. He has on black pants and combat boots with leather gloves. He smiles at me as he walks over.
"Ms. Blair, you have a visitor," Maria says quietly. I go to sit up, and she rushes over to help me to a sitting position.

The man seems familiar, I just don't know where. He sits carefully on the edge of the cot. Maria stands beside him for a moment. They exchange a silent conversation with their eyes, before she nods and walks out of the tent. The man turns to look at me. "It's good to finally see you awake," he says quietly. He has a very different voice.
"Yeah," I say hoarsely.
His eyes avert to his hands, "I was- er we were worried you wouldn't wake up."
"Oh."
"Yeah...Ja- The Mourner was afraid you were going to not make it. You were so weak. We had to pour water down your throat for two days, hoping it was enough to keep you alive. Your friend, Audrey, was carefully watching over you."
"Is she OK?" I asked quietly as I started coughing. He waited till the fit was over to continue.
"For the most part. She wasnt as bad as you in some ways, a Shadow attacked her and left some pretty bad marks. She has a bad wound to her side, but she's doing all right. The Mourner has been watching over her."

Ok, I'm so fucking confused. Here we go again with the Shadows, I have no idea what they are. "Could you please...explain what...the Shadows...are?" I coughed.
"Well...it's a long very confusing story. I assumed you knew what Audrey did, but I guess that was wrong. Basically, when civilization crumbled, government fell and things fell apart. That's when F.E.A.R. rose to power. F.E.A.R. made people feel wanted, needed, in charge, but in reality, it was destroying people. Everyone depended on F.E.A.R. to be protected because they claimed that they would destroy the Ones who made civilization fall, the ones who disobeyed the rule of government. People clung to it, hoping it would protect them and give it a sense of belonging again in a world of such destruction. It's taken over almost everything, everyone. That's when it all went down. F.E.A.R. Blamed us fugees for everything that happened. We've called ourselves the Wild Ones. Hence the name Camp of the Wild ones. We formed the Legion of the Black, a group of five men, who lead the remaining rebels. That's what this camp is, a refuge for those who refuse to live under the rule of F.E.A.R. and the power of the Shadows. They've kidnapped, murdered, and tortured anyone who they think is one of us."

"Are they the ones...who burned Isring?"
"Yeah."
i stared at him in disbelief. "Why did...I not...know?"
"Well, woman weren't supposed to be told. This was a mans battle. Isring is very very far from most of their ruling. They've destroyed everything around here, and most of the time, they never venture out of the tower, unless they are after something or someone."
"Who...are you?"
"I'm the Destroyer, but you can call me CC."
"CC?"
"I'm one of the five leaders in the Legion. I'm the one who found you in the desert."

It all clicked, no wonder I thought I had seen him, he was the ine that saved my life in the desert.
"Thank...you," I choked through another coughing fit.
"Here," he said as he passed the water back to me. I sipped it some more, wincing at the pain in my throat.
"Thank you," I said as I handed it back. My hand brushed against his, and I almost jumped as I felt a jolt of electricity. He shocked me. I let out a quiet gasp. He glanced up at me, his hand pulled away, he had obviously felt it too.

Audreys POV
I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am for Jakes company. I've been so stressed since Blair came back two days ago. I've sat at her beside, hoping she'll wake, assisting CC and Maria when I can. I walk down the small path between tents and make shift shelters that the Wild Ones have built. Jake has his arm wrapped around my waist, supporting me as I slowly walk around the camp. I'm still rebuilding muscle and regaining strength. It's been a week since we fled Isring. I pause for a moment, standing. Jake stops next to me. I see a structure, it's like the remains of a building, but theirs writing on it, WE ARE LEGION * FOR WE ARE MANY . It's spray painted on the building. I point to it.
"Jake, what's that?" I ask.
His gaze travels to where Im pointing. "Oh, that's the Legion saying. That building, is actually where I live with the other a legion members. It's the only stable structure really left beside the towers. We use what's left for shelter during sandstorms and storms. The bottom of the building is empty, some Wild Ones use it, but it's mainly storage and stuff. The top is off limits to anyone but the Legion members, and legion spouses."
"Spouses?"
"Jinxx is married. His wife Sammi stays in there. Andy used to stay with Juliet there, before she and Ella...before she was kidnapped." He looked suddenly very upset.
"Jake are you alright?" I asked quietly as I turned to face him. He composed himself.
"Yeah, I'm alright."
"Are you sure," I whispered. "You know, you can talk to me."
"It's a long story, I really don't feel like talking about it."
"Alright."
He wrapped his arm around me and smiled. "Why don't we continue our walk?"
I smiled back and we continued our walk through the paths of the camp. We passed everything type of person. Most people here were wearing tattered, dirty clothes. Rags. I glanced down at my black shorts and my clean red t shirt I had found. I glanced at Jake with his leather vest, the word "Mourner" painted on the back and a mask with horns on the back. He didn't have a shirt under it (which was very attractive). He had on black skinny jeans and combat boots, like the other four men of the Legion. His black hair was still down, and he didn't have any war paint on today. I started feeling the ache in my legs and my healing side.
"Why don't we go back for awhile and you can show me the rest tomorrow?" I offered as a group of small. Dirty children ran past. He smiled and we walked back to the infirmary tent.

He held open the tent flap and I stepped inside. Blair was awake. I pulled away from Jakes grasp. I rushed over to her.
"Blair!" I yelled as I pulled her into a gentle hug. She coughed a few times. "Oh my god I'm so happy you're finally awake!"
"Yeah," she wheezed. I could see how weak she was.
"I've missed you."
"I...missed you...too."
The wound in my side was starting hurt again. I gingerly placed my hand over it. Jake walked up behind me and carefully wrapped his arms around me, and placed his hand over it. I loved how he was so alert to help me. He wouldn't let me live in pain for any reason. I sucked in a breath I felt the warm tingle again. Blair's eyes were opened wide as she witnessed Jakes pain relieving. She motioned for me to come closer. I nodded at Jake and stepped closer to her. She held out her hand. I grabbed it but she weakily pulled away.
"How...bad is your...your wound?" she coughed.
"It's still deep, but it's been healing. It's about time to change the covering anyway," I said as I glanced at Jake. We had moved my bed to the cot next to Blair the morning after she arrived. I sat on the cot beside hers.

Jake crossed the room and picked up the small pitcher of clean water Maria had boiled. He picked up a sheet and pull apart a few squares of it. Maria walked in the tent and came over. I pulled off the t shirt (I had a bra on). Maria untied the bandage and slowly unrolled it, removing it from my torso. I closed my eyes and bit my lip as she began to pull the scab material away with the bottom layer of bandage. I gasped as she pulled it off. I looked down. The edges of the wound (the size of my palm) were starting to close. Blood droplets began forming in the center. Jake placed the rag in the water and as gently as possible cleaned the wound. The pain was still horrific when we had to do this. Maria reached out and took to rag, motioning for Jake to stand by me. He placed both palms on my shoudlers and gently rubbed them. I could feel the calmness flooding into my body from his palms. The gentle warm, numbness began to creep back in my body. Maria applied pressure into the wound to thoroughly clean it. I closed my eyes and leaned back my head against Jakes stomach as he was standing behind me. I felt the damp cloth leave my skin. I looked down, Maria picked up a bandage cloth and the jar of alcohol.
"Wait," Blair croaked from her bed. We all turned to see her trying to get up. CC gripped her shoulders and guided her to a sitting position on the side of her bed. He was completely supporting her. She motioned for me to come over. I gingerly stood up. She placed her hands on the skin above and below the wound. She closed her eyes and I felt the skin drying. I looked down, it was... It was healing. The edges began closing slowly. The wound was no longer as deep. Her hands dropped. She began to slump over and CC picked her up, placing her back on the bed. She opened her eyes again and looked at me, weakily smiling. I looked back to the wound, it was only the size of an eye, half of what it had been a moment ago. Everyone glanced between us.
"She's...a healer," Maria whispered with wide eyes.
