Picture Perfect?

DEVLIN'S POV :

A muffled cry through the baby monitor pulls me from sleep , but as I sit up , I also hear , "It's okay there , Sprout , Daddy's right here ." , and the crying tapers off to a snuffle .
I get out of bed and walk over to the door connecting our room to the nursery , and then instantly sneak back over to the dresser , to grab the camera sitting there . I tiptoe back to the door , and snap a picture of one of the most beautiful things I've ever laid eyes on .
Ashley is standing by the nursery window , shirtless , Liam resting on his shoulder . Ash is glancing down at him , and the moonlight coming through the window is giving them sort of a silvery outline .
I snap several shots in quick succession before Ash notices me and turns in my direction . "What was that for ?" , he asks , giving me a rather tired grin .
"That was for blowing up to hang over the fireplace ." , I tell him . "This may be the best picture I've ever taken , of you or anyone else ."
I put the camera down and walk over to them , and Ashley passes Liam to me , then wraps his arms around me from behind , propping his chin on my shoulder as I unfasten the buttons on my shirt to feed Liam , since I'm up .
"Too bad we can't get a picture of this ." , he says .
"Nobody said you couldn't , you just can't show it to anybody ." , I reply , so he walks over , picks up my camera , and takes a couple of shots . Then he puts it down and comes back over to us .
Liam stops nursing , so I burp him , them shift him in my arms so we can look at his face . He's finally starting to be able to focus on things a bit better , so he looks back at us , and actually smiles .
"Look at that , babe ! He definitely has your smile ." , I say .
"Maybe , but I'm starting to think that he's gonna have your eyes ." , he responds . "See how much they've lightened up since he was born ?"
"Yeah , I think you may be right . And shouldn't you be going back to bed ? You do have an interview scheduled tomorrow ." , I say , then look at the clock . "Well , later today , actually ."
"Y'know , I was thinking , why don't you two come with ?" , he asks . "That way I can show you guys off without actually exposing him to a crowd , like we'd have at a show or a signing ."
"Yeah , I guess that would be okay , if that's what you want ."
Liam finally goes to sleep , so we put him back into his crib and go back to bed , and fortunately , he manages to sleep through the rest of the night .

Ash takes the dogs out while I feed Liam and make our breakfast , then I let them have a bit of father - son time while I take a few more pictures of them and the animals , to finish my roll of film , then take it to my in - house darkroom to develop it . In a typical Ashley move , he had it put in as my birthday gift , and it makes things a lot more convenient for our personal pictures .
I develop the film , and let the pictures dry out while Ash and I take turns showering and getting dressed , then I get Liam ready for his first public appearance . One of the baby shower gifts , from Jinxx and Alice , was a onesie printed to resemble a BVB T- shirt , so I put him in that , along with a pair of booties I made for him , that look like tiny crocheted cowboy boots .
Ash walks into the nursery , and chuckles when he sees Liam's outfit . "Cute , darlin' . Now we just need to find him a tiny cowboy hat ."
"Yeah , then he could be your Mini - Me ."
We take Liam out to the car , get him strapped in , and head to Ashley's office at his clothing company , where he's doing the interview . We get there , and most of his employees make a beeline for us , to ooh and aah over Liam , until the magazine people show up .
They get set up , then start talking to him about the clothing line , eventually segueing to questions about the band , talking for a bit about their plans for the next album .
Finally , the interviewer says , "I see that your wife and baby are with you today , do you think there's a chance of getting a picture of the three of you ?"
He grins , and says , "That was sort of my plan , actually . Kinda giving him the chance to make his public debut , so to speak ."
"Oh , first photo shoot ?" , the reporter inquires , causing Ashley to burst out laughing . "Oh , hell no !" , he chuckles . "Not with a professional photographer for a mom ! I think he's already had almost as much camera time as I've had in my entire career . This is just his first public appearance ."
I come over to sit next to Ash , and we hold Liam between us while their photographer takes a few pictures . She's sort of surprised that he doesn't fuss too much , and says , " I guess you're right , he seems to be used to the camera . How old is he ?"
"He was born on July 22nd , so he's not quite six weeks old ." , I say .
"Wow , look at all that hair !" , she exclaims .
"Yep , he had that when he was born ." , Ash informs them . "Actually , the first thing that Dev said when she saw him was that it looked like he had a puppy on his head "
Everyone cracks up at that , and the reporter asks if she can put that in the article , which we agree to . Shortly after this , they wrap things up and leave , and after Ash takes care of a couple of things at the office , we head home .
After lunch , I put Liam in his bassinette , and Ash sings to him until he goes to sleep . Then I go to my darkroom to check on the pictures , and decide which one I want to take to my studio to blow up for the living room . Once I decide on that , I go to where they're downloaded on my computer , and pick one for my social media .
I go back to the living room , and show Ash what I'm planning to post , since I know he's a bit leery of certain things going out to the public . Fortunately , he's okay with it , so I post one of the pictures I took in the nursery last night , with the caption :
"Luckiest woman on the planet . This is what I woke up to last night . The best view ever ."
