My Perfect Weapon

Chapter 57: Like Father, Like Son

Aiden had been watching Lauren for a week now. Ever since the night he saw her under the broken street lamp. He couldn't get her out of his mind. She was so sweet and she seemed so fragile that he felt he needed to protect her. His father had told him what had happened to her and it angered him that someone like Lauren was exposed to something like that.

She was at the Library again tonight working on her project. She was sitting alone lost in her work. He loved how she would bite her bottom lip in concentration as she wrote her paper. She had no idea he was there, of course. He was certain that Uncle Kevin had told her what he was and now she would probably want nothing to do with him. His father had said she was a little afraid of him even though she tried to hide it.

If she was afraid of his father, she would most definitely be afraid of him. He could do things his father couldn't. Yes there were some things about him that were exactly like his father. He was part vampire part demon. He had wings like his father. But other things about him were different from his father. Aiden was telekinetic and Pyro kinetic. That fact alone would probably drive her away.

He watched as Lauren looked at her watch and then started putting her things away. She had stayed late again and he knew she would be kicking herself for it. If only she knew she was safe. He was watching over her and would never let anything happen to her.

She finished packing up her books and left the library. He followed her from the shadows. She was almost to the alley by the broken street lamp when he noticed someone else was following her. She seemed to have no idea someone was behind her until he called out to her.
"Hey, baby. What you doing out here alone at this hour." he said.

She froze and then whirled around to face him. Aiden knew she couldn't see him that well in the darkness and he could hear her heart speed up from fear.

The guy reached her and he recognized him immediately. Randy. His father had told him all about Randy and his grudge against both him and his mother. Aiden let his fangs slide down. This wasn't going to end well for him.

Randy grabbed Lauren by her arm and she winced in pain.
"I asked you a question bitch. I think I should teach you a lesson in manners." He said as he pulled her into the alley.
"NO! Please!" Lauren sobbed as he pulled her into the darkness.

She was probably reliving everything that had happened to her when she had been kidnapped. She was kicking and screaming. Fighting him every step of the way. He threw her to the ground next a garbage dumpster and began fumbling with his belt. That's when Aiden made his move.

As Randy leaned down to grab Lauren again, Aiden used his telekinesis. Randy flew backwards and hit the brick wall behind him. Aiden stepped from the shadows where he had been hiding.
"Hello, Randy." Aiden said stepping in front of Lauren.
"Who the fuck are you?" Randy asked as he struggled against him.
"You don't know me. We haven't met. But you know my father. Maybe it would help if we had a little more light in here." He said as his hand burst into flames.

The alley filled with light from the flames and Aiden saw fear in Randy's eyes.
"Y-you're that freak Andy's kid, but that's impossible. You were only born two months ago."
"I know when I was born, thank you." Aiden said rolling his eyes.

Aiden turned his head and looked at Lauren. She was curled in a ball on the ground sobbing. Aiden looked back at Randy. He knew he couldn't move at the moment. Aiden wanted to kill him so badly, but he couldn't at the moment. Not in front of Lauren when she was so obviously upset.

Aiden extinguished the flames in his hand and turned away from Randy. He went to Lauren's side and knelt beside her. He wanted to reach out and hold her, but his instincts told him that wasn't a good idea at the moment.
"Lauren." He said gently.
"P-please d-don't h-hurt me." She sobbed.

His heart broke. He closed his eyes for a moment. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. He needed to get his anger under control. He pulled his fangs back in and felt his eyes go back to normal. She would never trust him if he looked like a monster.
"Lauren, I'm not going to hurt you. It's me, Aiden." he said soothingly.
She looked up at him. "Aiden?"

Recognition dawned on her face and she set throwing herself into his arms sobbing.
"Aiden, h-he was going to..." she sobbed.
"I know, but you're safe now. I'm here." he said stroking her hair. "Come on, I'm going to take you home."

He picked her up bridal style and she buried her face in the crook of his neck. His wings popped out of his back. They ripped the back of his shirt, but he didn't care. He needed to get her home quickly and he didn't running vampire speed with her in his arms was a good idea.
"Lauren, are you afraid of heights?"
"N-no." she said with her face still buried in his neck.

He looked at Randy who was still pinned to the wall.
"Come near her again and I will kill you." he said.

He flew up and hovered for a moment. He finally let Randy go. Lauren tightened her grip on him and lifted her head. She gasped and looked up at him.
"Don't drop me, Aiden." she said tightening her hold even more.
"I won't. I promise." he said with a chuckle.

He flew her back to her house and landed on the walk way in front of the porch. He looked down at her and smiled.
"We're here." he said.
"Thank you, Aiden." she said "For saving me, I mean."
"You don't have to thank me, Lauren." he said as he set her on her feet.
"But I do. You're father saved me once and I didn't really thank him properly. To be honest, he kind of scared me. Now you've saved me too and I don't want to make the same mistake. I guess it's true what they say. Like father, Like son." she said looking up at him.
"Are scared of me too?" he asked looking down at the ground.
"No, Aiden. What you are does make me nervous, but I think if we spent more time together, I could learn to adjust to it." She said smiling shyly.
He looked up. "You want to spend more time with me?" he asked smiling.
"Yes, Aiden. I-I kind of have a crush on you." she said blushing.

He stepped forward and pulled her to him. He felt her shiver as he placed his hands on her waist.
"I promise I will never hurt you, Lauren. I only want to protect you." he said looking into her eyes.

She looked up at him and then slowly leaned up. She softly placed her lips on his. He was surprised at first, but closed his eyes and kissed back. Her lips fit his perfectly. He heard her heartbeat speed up. She pulled away and smiled up at him.
"Goodnight, Aiden. Thanks for bringing me home." she said as turned.
"Goodnight, Lauren."

She smiled at him one last time before going inside. There was a smile on his face as he flew off into the night. he couldn't wait to see her again.
