Skylar was beginning to get discourage. They had been looking for a new place for a week now and still hadn't had any luck. Andy kept telling her it would be alright. She wished she felt as sure as he did.

Today they were taking a break from house hunting to go to a party Kevin was throwing for Lauren. It was Lauren's sixteenth birthday. Kevin felt it was only right to invite Andy and Skylar since they were the reason Lauren was able to celebrate.

When they arrived Karen took their coats and put them in a small closet by the door. Kevin came out of the kitchen wearing a kiss the cook apron and holding a spatula.
"Glad you guys could make it. It's just going to be us. Lauren hasn't felt up to being around large crowds. I'm grilling steaks so I hope you brought an appetite." He said as Lauren came into the room.
"Happy birthday, Lauren." Andy said giving the small girl a hug.
"Thanks, Andy. I wouldn't be having a birthday if it weren't for you." she said as she turned to Skylar. "You must be Skylar. It's nice to finally meet you. Uncle Kevin has told me a lot about you."
"It's nice to meet you, too."

Karen went into the kitchen and came back with a beer. She plopped down onto the couch and put her feet up on the coffee table. "If you guys want one just help yourselves."
"No, thanks. I can't drink alcohol." Skylar said rubbing her belly.
Karen caught on quickly. "You're pregnant! That's wonderful! Congratulations!"
"Thank you. We're very happy about it." Skylar said smiling.

Kevin came back out of the kitchen and announced dinner was done. They all headed to the table and filled their plates. Karen managed to get some blood for Andy. After dinner they all headed back into the livingroom.

"So, what are you guys going to do about getting a bigger place. It seems there's already a lot of people in the apartment." Kevin asked taking a sip of beer.
"We've been looking, but haven't had much luck finding something in our price range." Andy answered.
"Mom, what about grandma's old place?" Lauren said.
"That would be perfect, Lauren. There would be enough room for everyone."

Karen got up and left the room. Skylar was confused. What were they talking about? Karen came back and handed Andy a key.
"This is the key to our mother's house. When she passed away, she left the house to both of us. It's in great condition since Kevin always made sure to keep up the repairs. It's also completely paid for so you won't have to worry about that either."
"You can't just give us a house." Skylar said in shock.
"Then you can pay rent. I think five dollars a month is fair."
Now it was Andy's turn to protest. "That's very generous of you, but it wouldn't be fair to you guys. We don't want to take advantage of you."
"Nonsense. You are the reason I still have my daughter. We consider you guys family and we always take care of our family. No more arguing. The house is yours."

Skylar couldn't believe it. She had never had so many great friends before. She had no idea people could be so generous. All her life she had been bullied and tormented. Since Andy had come in to the real world, she had learned that there was more to people than she had thought.

Andy stood up and gave Karen a hug. Skylar followed his example. "Come on, everyone. Let's go see our new house." Skylar said as she headed for the door.
