My Perfect Weapon
Chapter 31: Going Hunting
He opened his eyes. "Do you smell that?" he asked looking over at Erica. She frowned. "Some kind of chemical." He nodded and began following the scent. It led him to a small bedroom. The smell was strongest here, but it was also mixed with the smell of fear.
"This is Lauren's room." Kevin said from the doorway. Andy turned to him. "He knocked her out with chloroform."
"Well, that would explain why none of the neighbors heard anything."
Andy looked around the room taking in everything. It was neat and tidy. Nothing was out of place. That didn't make sense. The smell of fear in the room told him she had at least seen her attacker. Why didn't she fight him? He frowned something wasn't right here.
"There was a beware of dog sign out front, but there's no dog here." Andy said turning back to Kevin.
"I put that up after Karen's husband died. I thought it would discourage burglars. There's also a fake home security sign on all the windows."
"She knows him." Erica said looking up at Andy.
He nodded. "That's why she didn't fight him. She probably let him in. She didn't realize her mistake until it was too late."
Andy crossed the room to the bed. He picked up a teddy bear that was propped against one of the pillows. He was hit by the smell of peaches. This must be Lauren's scent. He closed his eyes again and focused on it. Just underneath it he caught another scent. One he had smelled before. It had been on Skylar the night she had come home from the police station.
Andy opened his eyes and looked over at Kevin. "Is Detective Crane working on this case?"
"No, he's on vacation right now. Why?" He asked frowning.
"I know who took her and you know where to find him." Andy said as he headed to the door. "It's time to go hunting." He said as he walked out of the room.
