My Perfect Weapon

Chapter 26: Stranger Than Fiction

Detective Jenkins walked out of Skylar West's hospital room. The doctor on duty had called a few hours ago saying Skylar had been brought in severely beaten. The strange thing was, the person who brought her in matched Lacy Johnson's description. The Missing body from the morgue. But that was impossible.

He had just finished talking to Skylar. She had given him the names of the ones who had done this, but wasn't able to tell him much else. Her car had been brought in as evidence. More than likely, the three who had beaten her had been the ones who slashed her tires.

He was lost in thought when his cell phone rang. "Jenkins." he answered.
"We have another crime scene." Detective Crane said.

He arrived at the address to discover it was the home of Megan Gallager, one of the names Skylar had given him. The house had been partially burned. The bodies of Megan Gallager and Alex Finch were in the livingroom. Megan's body was partially burned. Her tongue was missing from her mouth and laying on the floor. Alex Finch was completely drained of blood and had two sets of puncture wounds in his neck. What the hell was going on here.

"Sir, there's evidence that a Ms. Erica Richards was here as well. Her purse was hanging by the front door, but there's no sign of her here. They must have took her."

That was all three of the names Skylar had given him, but where was Erica? Why was she taken and not killed like the other two? This was the strangest case he had ever had. Whoever was doing this was good. They never left any physical evidence behind.

"Well, you were right. There's no way Skylar West could have done this." Detective Crane said as he walked up to him.
"Any evidence?"
"Nope. Nothing. This guy is like a ghost."
"Or a vampire." Detective Jenkins said as he examined the wounds on Alex Finch.
"Looks like this guy is a real looney."

Detective Jenkins didn't answer. If there was one thing he had learned over the years, it was that sometimes the truth was stranger than fiction. As impossible as it sounded, with all the strange things happening with this case, he wasn't going to rule out anything just yet. Skylar West had obviously gotten the attention of someone or something that felt the need to protect her or avenge her. The question was, did Skylar West know more than she was telling?
