A Savior Will Be There

Chapter 4

The next day came along and Korey dragged herself out of bed and into the bathroom. She washed her face and all that stuff. The ink from the night before had faded away. Then she went to her closet and put on some ripped jeans and a white t-shirt. She pulled socks onto her feet and red converse. Well, it might be cold in the school again. She thought. So Korey wrapped a gray hoodie around her waist. Korey then walked towards her mirror and grabbed her brush and brushed her hair. She pulled it in a ponytail with her bangs on the side of her face. She put on some black bracelets and her mother's, well, her purity ring. She grabbed her backpack and put it on her back and shut the front door and she was on her way to school again. ///
Korey walked through the doors of homeroom and Andy already walked over in her direction. "Hey, Korey. What happened yesterday?" He asked and Korey saw concern in his bright blue eyes. "Um... well. Whenever I took care of what needed to be done at the office, I-I felt light headed. The nurse told me to go rest and I'd be well in like a day. And now, here I am." She said. Andy didn't look too convinced, but he didn't push it. "Well, I'm glad you're ok." He smiled and lightly punched her in the shoulder and Korey laughed. "So are you doing anything this weekend?" Andy asked. Korey thought for a second, "No, not that I know of. Why do you ask?" "Well, the guys and I were planning on hanging out at Jinxx's house and we were all wondering if you wanted to come." "Yeah! Totally! But, I'd have to ask my uncle." "Ok then. Hope you can make it." Andy smiled and Korey smiled back. Korey can already say that day two of school is definitely not as she expected, but it was perfectly fine with her. Andy and Korey continued talking for who knows how long, and telling each other jokes and laughing at the other had to say. Suddenly the bell rang. The two of them had their backpacks on and they walked into the hallway and headed to English. Andy went over to his desk and Miss Hill was talking a little to Korey. "How are you feeling today?" She was concerned as well. "A little sore, but I'm okay for the most part. Thank you." Korey replied to Miss Hill with a smile. She smiled back and Korey made her way to her desk. "Class, I am assigning homework that is due this Thursday. You must read the poem The Rhyme of an Ancient Marnier and I want you to tell the story in your own words. And also, draw a scene from the poem that was most interesting to you." Miss Hill said. All the class groaned. "It won't take too long. Would you rather have it due tomorrow?" She asked, then the students were quiet. "That's what I thought. Now, the scene can be drawn in any way you wish. Just, don't turn in a single line and say the work is done. This will be a test grade." She said. Korey was pretty excited about this assignment. She didn't read a lot of literature but she did like the poem they had to read. "For now, I want you to write a short story at least two pages long. It can be whatever story you'd like. It is due at the end of class." After that, everyone got started writing. Korey was brainstorming a bit. Then after a while, she ended up writing a story about a husky that could control ice. He went on some weird little adventure to save a baby penguin from a dangerous narwhal. She finished a little bit early, but she didn't want to be the first to turn it in. So Korey got her notebook out and started doodling. She started off drawing circles of various sizes, then there were some cubes here and there. Just shapes in general were on that page. ***
Andy isn't really one to write stories, and he currently has no inspiration. Maybe he could have Batman be the main character. But what would the hero do? He looked around the room for a little inspiration. Then he saw Korey who looked like she was drawing something. Then Andy had an idea. Batman was patrolling the alleys of Gotham when he heard a scream. He pressed the gas petal and the Batmobile drove faster. The Joker and some goons of his were vandalizing brick walls and there was a girl with them. She had a bag over her head and hands tied around her back. The main idea of the story was the Joker captured artist girl, Batman saves damsel in distress, the day is saved. Andy completed what he considered a crappy story, and he turned it in to Miss Hill. When he got back to his desk, he laid his forehead on the desk. He couldn't stop thinking about Korey. Something was nagging at him that there was more to the story, or it was completely false. But he did not want to bug her too much. He looked at her direction and saw someone hand her a note. What is it this time? Andy wondered. He watched as Korey read the note. She had her lips in a thin line, eyebrows knitted together, and eyes shut tight. Andy watched her crumble the paper in a fist. After what he guessed was fifteen seconds, her face changed into a look of sorrow. Jennifer... there was no doubt about it. This form of bullying was Jennifer's work. Andy knew this because it happened to him the first few days he was here. Jennifer did the same thing to Andy, but he set things straight right away. Now they consider each other enemies, but not quite Joker/Batman level... unless she does something to really piss him off. Andy looked over at Jennifer who had a satisfied smile on her wicked face. He was glaring at her direction and Jennifer noticed and looked down at her hands. The smile still hadn't left her face. He looked back at Korey with his head on his desk. Korey looked like she was trying hard to hold back tears and she was writing in that book again. The bell....again. It rang. ///(lunch)***
Korey walked out of history class and headed towards her locker to put her books away. But she decided to stay there for a minute. She still had the note Jennifer gave her. ' Hey Stupid. Let me try and get this through your head. You mean nothing to anyone. So get some blade and cut to your heart's desire. Go jump off a cliff. Drown yourself. Do something to cure us of the monstrosity we call you! ' Yesterday's note wasn't so bad, but every time she read this one, her heart shattered. Korey took the note and placed it in her locker. She hadn't cried yet, she couldn't. Korey wanted to be better than this. She wanted to be stronger than this. Korey shut the locker's door and not much to her surprise, Andy was right there. She tried to give him a somewhat passive smile. "Hey, Andy. Ready for lunch?" She asked. "Yeah, sure." The two were walking in the halls then Andy spoke up. "What's wrong, Korey." He asked. Korey looked at him with raised eyebrows. "What do you mean?" She was trying but failing to hide her emotions. "What did the note say?" "What note?" " Korey, you are a lousy liar. What did it say?" Andy asked a little sternly. "Nothing. It's fine." She said avoiding eye contact. "Look, Korey, if we are going to be friends, you need to learn to talk to me." He began. "I'm not going to one of those people who have to pull teeth to get information about anything." She was still walking. Andy grabbed Korey's arm and turned her to face him. Korey was still looking down not wanting to look him in the face. Andy sighed. "We have the same class periods to get her and we both are free after lunch. We will talk then, okay?" Andy said a little softer, not trying to scare Korey. "Okay, Andy. We'll talk then." Korey said and Andy let go of her arm. ///
They entered the cafeteria and immediately found the guys. "Korey! Andy! Get over here slow pokes!" CC shouted as they made their way. "So, Korey, you free this weekend?" Jinxx asked. Korey shrugged. "I still have to ask my uncle. I'll let you guys know tonight." She said. They all nodded, meaning that they understood. The guys plus Korey continued talking about ideas for the weekend and stuff like that.
