A Savior Will Be There

Chapter 3

To the cafeteria, still. But Korey and Andy were walking a bit slow. Andy wanted to ask Korey one last question before they ate lunch, so he gave it a shot. "Korey, can I ask you a kind of personal question?" He asked. Korey just looked at him a little scared of the question on his mind. However, she did give him the 'ok' for asking. "Why were you crying earlier?" He asked and Korey stopped walking. What? Why would he want to know? She thought. "I really don't mean to pry and invade your privacy or anything." He said looking at her. "Um... I-I don't want to talk about it." She muttered. Korey didn't want Andy to be dragged into her "problems". ///
They finally arrived at the cafeteria, but then Korey stopped at the entrance. What if his friends hate me? Maybe this was a mistake. What if they are all like Brandon, Tristen, and Jennifer? She was lost in her thoughts again. But then a deep voice broke her train of thought. "You okay, Korey?" Andy asked looking a little worried. She nodded and continued through the doors. Korey watched as Andy waved to some people at a random table. They naturally waved back and the two were walking to the table. One of them who was eating pizza spoke first. "Who's your new friend here, Andy?" He asked. "Guys, this is Korey. Korey, this is Jake, Jinxx, CC, and Ashley." Andy introduced with a smile. The one named Ashley stood up. "Why, it's lovely to meet you, Korey." He said and all of the guys were laughing at him. Ashley just ignored them and pulled some random seats for Andy and Korey. "So, Korey, what do you like to do for fun?" CC asked. Korey shrugged. "I listen to music most of the time, other than that I read a lot of comics." She said casually. Andy asked the next question excitedly, "Who's your favorite hero?" "Batman, obviously!" Korey replied and Andy smiled and the others sighed. Jinxx was next, "You said you like music, what kind do you like?" "Rock 'n Roll in general." She shrugged. Jake was still munching on pizza. "So, little lady, have you ever had a boyfriend?" Ashley asked and CC punched his shoulder, "Ow! Doesn't kill to ask!" He exclaimed. Korey was a bit red in the face, from embarrassment "Well, no, I've never had a boyfriend. I-I don't really want to date anyone right now." She said. ///
The guys plus Korey kept on talking a little longer and then Korey noticed two figures in the corner of her eye. Brandon and Tristen were signaling her to go over. "Hey, guys. I remembered that I have something to do for the school office. I have to go." She said, trying to make up a workable excuse.

Korey was about to leave when Andy stopped her. "Hey, wait. We wrote all of our numbers here, you know, in case you need something." He said handing her a paper. Korey accepted it and put it in her pockets and walked out. ///
They have been kicking and punching for about three minutes and giving her insults one after another. Just let me get away! Let me leave. Korey pleaded in her mind. The pain was almost unbearable... almost. Then, a miracle came for her. One of the teachers - Miss Hill to her surprise - gave Brandon and Tristen detention and took Korey to the nurses office. The nurse gave Korey an ice pack for her cheek and Miss Hill escorted Korey down the hallway while she was limping a little. "Miss Hill, I know it's my first day, but I'm sore everywhere, may I go home?" Korey asked hopeful. Miss Hill looked at Korey with sadness in her eyes. She nodded and gave Korey a light hug, trying not to hurt Korey. "Korey, I want you to know that you can come to me for anything." Miss Hill said and Korey thanked her. ///
Korey didn't have to worry about the other teachers because Miss Hill had everything covered. Now she was walking home. She finally got home and ran upstairs into her room. The pain from earlier had taken effect and Korey hurt everywhere. Her face, legs, ribs, they were all throbbing like crazy. Korey took a hand mirror from under her bed and looked at her reflection. "You really are ugly, worthless. The guys couldn't possibly want to hang out with you of free will. They just have pity on you." She began talking to the reflection. "No one cares. You are a burden to everyone. That's why Jason is always gone. Drinking away the problems you created." She continued. Korey shoved the mirror back under her bed and cried. "Pfft. So much for letting anyone get to me." She said through tears. Korey shifted spots and sat in front of a wall, beside some drawers, leaning against her bed. She slowly opened the drawer and took out a small box full of... razors. Korey took one out and looked at it. Just one. One couldn't possibly be too bad in two months. Right? Korey still contemplated on doing this. Then she growled at the thought and shoved the razor back in the box and put it back in the drawer. She then did what she considered the next best thing. She grabbed a blue pen from some random place and lifted her sleeves and wrote words on her arms. 'Worthless' was written on her left arm and on the right, she wrote, 'Fag!' and threw the pen across the room and took a light nap. ///
When Korey woke up, she looked at her phone's clock. "Asleep for two hours. Huh.." She said without a care. Then she saw three missed calls and two texts, all from the same person. She read the messages and saw they were all from Andy. "How did he get my number??" 'Kory? This is Andy. Are you okay?? You never came back.' That was text one. ' Hey, it's me again. School's out now and the guys and I were wondering if you were alright. Call any of us. :)' text two. Korey took the paper from her pocket at put in the contacts. The she texted the guys individually. They all replied about the same sort of thing. 'Glad you're ok.' Or 'Missed you today' and things like that. Korey sighed and looked at her ceiling. "Is this really happening? They, they're acting like they care. Maybe - just maybe - they are going to be the ones that are there for me." She muttered to herself. But then, there was lingering doubts. "This couldn't be true. They just feel bad for me." She sighed. Then something inside her told her to let go of her doubt. To trust them. "I'll give their friendship a shot." Korey said and smiled. Slowly, her eyes felt heavy again and she drifted off into a peaceful nights sleep.
