Suffocate Me

5

“Hey everybody’s here! Olivia, got your stuff from your truck. Hope I’m not being cree- Andy?”

Juliet’s face dropped and a piece of my heart went with it. I had thought I loved her, I had thought she was the one, but Olivia had proven me and my senses wrong. Juliet’s hands went to push her hair out of her face and I could see her eyes clouding over. Her pulse banged in my ears. For an instant, I couldn’t tell if she was angry or sad, but then I knew. She was furious.

“Take a breath,” I said, standing over Olivia.

When she was mad, Juliet could throw some mean slaps and like hell she was aiming them at Olivia.

“Take a breath? You want me to take a breath?!” she whisper-yelled, her eyes burning like fire,”Want to explain what I was seeing? Why you’re trying to get all buddy with someone else?!”

“Juliet, please hear me-” I cooed.

Juliet shook her head fiercely, the tears finally beginning to gather in her eyes. Her arms raised in anger and began going on about all the sweet things I had ever said. The guys were beginning to look a little more than uncomfortable, yet I found myself rooted to the ground.
If I tell her we’re over like this she’ll make a big deal of it online, but if I take her outside she’ll attract attention. The cogs in my head were spinning and I began to feel dizzy at the size of the situation. I mean, the sooner it is over with the better, but Juliet’s timing is terrible. Any other time and I could have taken her aside quietly.

My gaze fell to the floor as Juliet kept on talking. Everything she said registered, from her feelings of betrayal to her hopefulness. The problem was that I didn’t care as much as I should have. I didn’t care if I broke her heart as long as I could be with my mate. As long as I could be with that scent, that feeling and that security.

“Are you even listening to me?!” Juliet yelled.

Water streaked her cheeks and a part of her was darkly aware. It was in her eyes that she knew something was off, but she couldn’t understand why.

Suddenly I felt small.

A jolt went through my body. I looked down to see that Olivia was wrapping her hand around my clenched fist. Her touch was like ice against my heated skin. Those yellow eyes of hers widened in fear as she watched Juliet’s expression. Olivia was special. She was worth this, even if it meant a media storm would ensue after.

I wrapped my fingers into Olivia’s and lightly squeezed.

I was bigger than all this.

Juliet saw me. Her eyebrows knitted as the floodgates opened and a torrent of tears poured from her face. The guys slipped to the back of the bus and I cast them a thoughtful glance. They understood that I couldn’t be untrue to myself, it wasn’t a werewolf’s nature. That meant that they also knew something big had come up.

“What the hell, Andy….” She whispered,”Everything was flawless.”

“Juliet, believe me when I say I seriously care for you,” I whispered.

“NO!” She yelled, suddenly getting up in my face,”You love ME!”

Fists beat on my chest and a few drops of salty sadness landed on my neck and cheek. Muffled, high-pitched sobs racked through Juliet’s body. The harsh light in the bus bounced off her sticky cheeks and I could sense her affection toward me, her love. Juliet loved me, but I could no longer return her feelings.

I placed a gentle hand on Juliet’s shoulder.

“Juliet… listen to me. I need you to trust me when I say I am not the one for you.”

“No, no, don’t start, I know that your-”

“Juliet.” I interrupted her.

I stepped back from my old girlfriend and took the hand of scared, little Olivia. Juliet’s eyes clouded over in anger; she froze. Olivia shrunk, but I pulled her up and close to me. I was being stupid by exposing Olivia, but Olivia needed confirmation that I was serious and I was providing. No need for caution since I would be there to protect Olivia from today on.

“I can no longer return your feelings.” I ended.

Juliet reeled back like she had been shot. Her eyes had a new fire to them, almost evil. Slowly, she hunched over, hiding her face in her hands. I swear I could hear her heart breaking. That’s when the tables turned.

Her nails lengthened and sharpened. Her sobbing paused. Her hair began to float and frizz around her head. Juliet looked up and I came eye-to-eye with a banshee’s stretched, streaked face.

“I love you.” she whispered, clawing at her own shoulders in anguish.

Her gaze fell to Olivia; a whimper fell from her lips. Rage slowly worked into her expression as she glared at Olivia.

“YOU BRoOoAAoOOKE THE SPEeeEEAEeLLL!” Juliet shrieked in an ungodly voice.

(a) Super-congratulations on your history exam!

(b) Oh shit! Andy has like, what, 8 or so hours once he wakes up to 'claim' Olivia, and, and Juliet might have just fried his brain, because Olivia was being a reluctant little prude? Well, at least now she has the choice to abandon him to a mental hospital, or get mated to a nut job! Hahaha, the irony! Nice, Olivia! How do you feel about having waited now?
