Character and background book for Night Watch Series

Night Watchmen

Rob "Blasko" Nicholson (origin- Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, Zakk Sabbath, Mercenary Management, etc.)

Blasko is a Night Fae, and First Officer of the Night Watch. When First Officer Dio was killed 3 years ago during the troll raid, Blasko rose to fill the vacancy and selected Doyle as his Second. Blasko is Andrew's Commanding Officer. With Chris gone, Blasko's taken a bit of a fatherly attitude towards Andrew.

Blasko has the wings of the cockchafer beetle (Melolontha sp.):

Blasko has the horns of the pronghorn antelope (Antilocapra americana):

Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (origin- Doyle, The Misfits, Kryst the Conqueror, Gorgeous Frankenstein, Danzig)

Doyle has always been a diligent soldier, and rose through the ranks by showing dedication and perseverance where others faltered. When Blasko needed to choose a new Second Officer, Doyle was the natural choice.

About a year and a half later, Doyle ultimately lost most of one leg in a goblin raid, as well as part of his left hand, when he refused to leave some of his men behind. Though he had a prosthetic for his leg made, his fighting skill was severely reduced, especially initially. Doyle suggested to Blasko that he step back from active combat duty, and that Blasko take a different Second Officer in his place. It was Doyle who swayed Blasko to pick Andrew as his replacement, as Blasko was having trouble making up his mind. At Blasko's urging and with agreement of the Council, Doyle kept his rank, while beginning a more formal program for maintenance and upkeep of the armory. Having demonstrated unexpected business savvy, he's also become involved in certain aspects of inventory for the Village kitchens and Commons.

Doyle is known for being quiet until he knows you, and then turning out to be more crass than one would expect. He's also built like a tank, and even taller than Andrew (though, of course, not as tall as Pete). Doyle is one of several Fae that will not eat animal-based foods, though he prefers not to discuss it or make a fuss.

Wednesday 13 (origin- Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13, Murderdolls, Wednesday 13, Bourbon Crow, Gunfire 76)

Wednesday is, in effect, the drill sergeant of the Night Watch. He helps coordinate the training and orientation activities of the new initiates with the First and Second Officers. He held that position when Andrew was an initiate with Juliet as well, and Andrew holds Wednesday in high regard. Where Blasko is a bit more fatherly, and Andrew has a slightly softer touch (though he can easily lose his temper with true incompetence), Wednesday runs an excellent contrast and is known for tolerating exactly zero bullshit.

Though Wednesday does have a sense of humor, he doesn't display it around the younger Watchmen, because he knows it will lessen their dread of him. Though he knows their fear is unnecessary, he feels he might as well use it as a tool to help them learn more swiftly and get them to comply with his instruction, instead of slacking off. He has perhaps the best natural night vision of anyone in the Village, abnormally so. Though he is far above the level of Scout, he is an extremely talented tracker (exceeding even Andrew's skill), and if the Night is moonless, clouded, and the mission critical, Wednesday is one of the first to be sought out.

Ronnie Radke
(origin- Falling in Reverse, Escape the Fate)

Ronnie is a Night Fae and an unranked member of the Night Watch. He used to be close with Andrew, but has given him space to mourn Juliet's loss. He's been through a lot of bizarre things in his life that have hardened him and given him somewhat of an unpredictable temper after having been treated so poorly. What really matters, though, is that he's a faithful friend, intelligent, and you can always trust him to have your back.

Ronnie has wings like a butterfly (Ornitoptera priamus poseidon):

He has horns like a gemsbok/oryx (Oryx gazella):

Brendan Small (origin- comedian, television, solo work, Metalocalypse)

Brendan is works shifts at the kitchens at the Wall pretty often following a heavy injury sustained fairly recently, making it difficult for him to patrol for long periods of time. This has also made him the bookie of the Night Watchmen whenever there are wagers to be placed on anything. Brendan is also a huge goofball and a major clown. He loves to make people laugh.

Otep Shamaya (origin- Otep)

Otep is another Night Watchman who, like Ronnie, has seen considerable adversity. She had a hard childhood, and was later the target of bigotry as a woman who preferred other women as romantic partners. She likes to write and paint as hobbies, especially poetry, and enjoys the arts in general. Like Doyle, she will not eat animal meat, though she will eat eggs and drink milk. She gets along well with most people that are respectful, but likes to patrol with Nikki while on Watch the most.

'Big' Peter Steele (origin- Type O Negative, Carnivore)

Pete is a member of the Night's Watch. His great grandmother was also an ogre, which led to his having both incredible physical powers and an incredibly tragic past. He generally keeps to himself. Though he is treated relatively well among the Wild Ones, he still sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nikki Misery (origin- New Years Day)

Nikki is a younger Night Watchman, but a good one. He's a good sport, and always has your back in a pinch. Known for his maudlin sense of humor, he's actually a really sweet guy. He likes to kid around with Otep and Jeremy (Valentyne, the Dusk Watchman) and has a complex relationship history with Ash (Costello, the Conjuration Healer).

the Deathstars: A close group of Scouts that all went through Training together at the same time. Though they're exceptionally skilled Watchmen, none of them are likely to ever rank as Officers or even gain official recognition, as they engage in an incredible amount of pranking and unprofessional behavior in their downtime. However, they've become a sort of unusually close scouting unit. Andrew and Blasko both see the utility of using that bond as a tool. How they acquired the nickname is lost to time.

Whiplasher Bernadotte (origin- Deathstars, Swordmaster)

Whiplasher is the ringleader of the Deathstars. He has a penchant for getting all of them into trouble, particularly naked trouble. He's also particularly fond of women, but hates potatoes. Likes to drink.

Nightmare Industries (orgin- Deathstars, Dissection, Swordmaster)

Nightmare, though quieter, relatively speaking, outside his group of friends, is actually Whiplasher's right hand man both when it comes to devising and executing nefarious plots and brilliant strategical moves during missions.

Skinny Disco (origin- Deathstars, The Four Jacks, Revolution Riot, Mynjun)

Skinny, though he makes light of it with humor, actually has a legitimate eating disorder because of low self-esteem and a poor body image. Nevertheless, he's still a very dedicated Watchman.

Bone W Machine (origin- Deathstars, Siren's Yell, Rabbit's Carrot, Dissection)

Bone is the oldest of the Deathstars, and often the one who ends up having to save their hides when they end up doing something exceptionally stupid or risky. Every time he tells himself he'll never get talked into doing something like that again, and every single time another opportunity pops up, he does it again.

Cat Casino (origin- Deathstars, Noise Forever)

Cat is one of the most mischievous of the Deathstars, always pushing Whiplasher to up the ante. He's quite the ladies' man and has gathered a sizeable following of admirers, perhaps because of his devil-may-care attitude. He occasionally butts heads with Andrew in particular. Blasko is better able to handle Cat without losing his temper.

Vice (origin- Deathstars, Crescendolls)

Vice actually did not go through Training with the rest of the Deathstars, and is younger than the rest of them. For whatever reason, they just all seemed to get along really well, and he got absorbed into their bizarre, unique little group.

Deceased:

Chris Biersack (origin- Andy's real-life father, The Edge, etc.)

Chris was a dedicated Watchman and an excellent father. He died when Andrew was still in Training, sacrificing his life to save Andrew from a revenant. It was during a trip to take Andrew to a brothel, to try and get him to calm down, as a rebellious teenager. The tragedy affected Andrew and shaped his development powerfully. His blade is partly named after the event.

Juliet Simms
(origin- Automatic Loveletter, solo work)

Juliet was a Night Fae Watchman. She grew up with Andrew, and was later his partner on the Night Watch and in life. She sacrificed her life to prevent the Soul of the Forest from being stolen during a raid made by a massive group of trolls. Andrew has never recovered, devoting his life to protecting the thing Juliet gave hers to save.

Juliet had wings similar to those of a dragonfly:

She had small antennae, like a butterfly:

Ronnie James Dio
- (origin- Vegas Kings, Ronnie and the Red Caps, Ronnie Dio and the Prophets, The Electric Elves, The Elves, Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, Hear'n Aid, Heaven & Hell)

Dio was a legendary swordsman, and the First Officer of the Night Watch for several centuries before he fell. His career as a Night Watchman spanned over 500 years, and his men were in awe of his tirelessness and humility. Sadly, he was mortally wounded by over a dozen trolls when he had to take them on alone, in an attempt to try and raise the alarm at the watch tower during the raid three years ago. Andrew saw it happen and was too late to save Dio's life, instead watching his Commanding Officer, and one of his heroes, die gruesomely before his eyes.

Notes

i would like to take a moment to point out that it is very difficult to find a picture of the Blask online where he conceivably appears like he could pass as a Forest Fae, dudes. he's virtually always rocking his bass. haha!

so, i thought that finding that kind of pic was a challenge for Blasko, but getting of of Chris was essentially impossible. so i settled for a funny one instead.

also- trivia time:

Doyle really is vegan, and Otep really is vegetarian.

Otep was actually in The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies as a voice actor for some creatures. sweet, eh- i actually do have some cross-over by coincidence!

here are some Andrew-coping-with-Juliet's-death gifs:

so don't hate on the Andliet!
