Bullets and Mercury

Part Twenty-One

Abbie POV

"Seriously, I have to go," I said.

Andy pouted and I smiled a little at his sullen expression. I'd stayed with him the whole night and slept in for most of the morning. I would need to get back to the hotel and let Kellin and Vic know where I'd been. Hopefully they weren't too worried.

"I know." Andy grinned, pulling me closer so he could hug me.

It was impossible for him to smell this good when just getting up. I breathed in and enjoyed being close to him. We eventually seperated and walked to the door. He started to slip on his trainers and I paused.

"You don't need to walk me home, ok." I smiled, but he looked concerned.

He seemed to be debating what to do since it was morning now and no one would be hanging around. He sighed and eventually relented.

"Fine, but I want you to phone me as soon as you get home." He said, sternly.

"Yes, Mom." I laughed, and he cracked a smile.

Andy walked me to the door and I turned to face him. He pulled me into a hug again and pressed his lips to mine. It was a sweet kiss. I couldn't help but smile. We parted after what felt like forever and I opened the door and started walking away, glancing back to wave and blow kisses at him.

The winter sun streamed through the glass panes as I made my way down the stairs and onto the street. It was a busy morning and people were walking up and down. It was a short walk back to the hotel. Kellin wouldn't be worried. He'd probably want all the gossip. Vic would be annoyed though. I'd have to find a way to make it up to him.

I rounded the corner and opened the front door to the Two Swans. The reception desk was vacant, an odd occurence even at this time in the morning. Vic would normally be sitting there, book in hand. Suddenly something didn't feel right and I glanced back at the entrance.

"Vic? Kellin?" I called out. No answer.

Fear started to lance through my veins, making my heart palpitate. I walked past the reception desk and into the back. A man was seated at the table, smoking a cigar. His eyes focussed on me as I entered.

"Abbie Stanton, I presume." He grinned, revealing a set of clearly fake, white teeth.

I couldn't speak. Who was this stranger? Why was he here?

"Where are Kellin and Vic?" I snapped.

"Ah, yes. The two young men who own this fine establishment. They are safe." He replied, glancing towards the door that led to Kellin and Vic's bedroom.

My eyes flitted back to him and he stood then. I stepped back and was met with a figure standing behind me. I glanced up to see the tall, bearded man from last night glaring down at me.

"I believe you have already met Cyan," The man spoke, coming towards me now.

Two firm hands grasped my shoulders, making me wince. I parted my lips to scream, but the man in front of me snapped his fingers and Cyan covered my mouth with a large hand.

"First, let us dispense with pleasantries. My name is Abaddon Slade." The man said, grinning silkily. "Do you know me?"

I shook my head as much as I could. I had heard about a crime lord, who was looking for the assassins. This must be that very man. I narrowed my eyes into a glare. He could do as he pleased, but I wouldn't tell him anything.

"Now, Abbie, may I call you Abbie? Cyan tells me that you have no idea where the four-headed demon are. I simply refuse to believe you would lie." Abaddon continues.

Cyan removes his hand, allowing me to speak. I take a breath and glower at the snake in front of me.

"I have no idea where they are." I snapped.

Abaddon tsked and waggled his finger at me, like a father telling off an unruly child. Cyan covered my mouth again.

"That is such a pity." Abaddon said, shaking his head.

He snapped his fingers again and Cyan picked me up. I fought and struggled against the huge man, but couldn't fight back. Abaddon watched me for a moment and snapped his finger again. A blow to my head, then everything went black.

Kacee POV

I woke up alone, which was a little depressing. The winter sun shone through the blinds and stung my eyes. Sitting up, I stretched and decided to explore, starting with this bedroom.

Sure enough, the walk-in cupboard was definitely filled with designer clothes. Last night I hadn't the energy to explore properly. There were photo's lining the vanity table. All of them had a very beautiful girl in them that looked too old to be Rukia. I left the bedroom, not caring that I was in last night's clothes.

This entire house was huge. I couldn't hear any noises and I stepped by a door, only to pause. There was a huge, and I'm not kidding, huge library. Books lined the walls and I stared in amazement. Someone cleared their throat and I noticed Rukia seated across the way in a plush, red chair.

"Oh, um, sorry." I mumbled, stepping back as if to leave.

"Come in. And shut the door, please," She said, firmly.

I winced. I had been hoping to avoid her, but this seemed like fate. I stepped closer and shut the doors, making the lock click. Rukia watched me and I tried to decipher what she was thinking.

Her eyes seemed to be sympathetic so maybe I was wrong about her. I sat opposite her and she sighed.

"I'm sorry for my behaviour last night." She said, shocking me.

"It's fine. I understand." I murmured, and she bit her lip.

"I don't think you do," She replied, locking eyes with me. "But i want to tell you."

I glanced at the door and she sensed my unease and leaned forward, gripping my hand in a soothing manner. She smiled for the first time since I'd seen her.

"Do you know about Marco?" She asked, and I nodded. "Do you know what he did?"

Again, I shook my head and her eyes glassed over like she might cry, but she composed herself.

"Then I'll tell you." She said, taking a shuddering breath.

Notes

Short chapter. Longer one next that goes into the assassins lives. Will need to put a trigger warning on the next chapter.
