Black Sun

"And you have no idea who abducted you?" The police officer asked.

He was a middle aged man with brown hair that was streaked with grey. He looked tired and harassed by it all. Last night had been my last night with Ashley and CC. They had dropped me off not too far from the police station.

It had taken me about twenty minutes to pluck up the courage to walk through the front door. I immediately regretted doing so as they had whisked me into a interrogation room and were questioning me. They wanted to know why I had been in the underground on the day of the Sphinx attacks. They also wanted to know where I'd been all this time.

I had stupidly told them I'd been abducted, but had managed to escape. Now this police officer wanted to know who had abducted me and how long they'd held me. Why had I hesitated to come in sooner? I had no answers. The door opened and a young woman walked in. She was wearing a police uniform too. She smiled kindly at me.

"I've called your father, Rini." She said, and I nearly groaned.

Sure, I'd seen the appeal my Dad had made, but he hadn't bothered with me for years and now he wanted to play father of the year. The officer opposite me, I think his name was Alastair, eyed me.

"Do you and your father not get on?" He asked. He clearly knew that my Dad was a sore subject.

"Dad walked out on Mum and I," I murmured. "I haven't seen him for years."

"I got that impression from your work colleagues." The detective said.

He asked me a few more questions then let me. I left the room and followed him down a hallway. This led to the main foyer and I saw Dad across the way. He looked panicked for a moment, then he rushed over, embracing me. I fought a little, but hugged back. My eyes flickered over his shoulder and I noticed he had bought Andrea along.

I was struck with the sudden urge to escape. I had never met the woman that Dad had left us for, but I remembered her face from a few awkward meetings when my Grandmother had been alive. Here she was, waiting for me with Dad and the feeling of annoyance welled up in me. I pulled away from my Dad.

He followed my eyes and looked apologetic. I didn't want to see Andrea. She wasn't my mother and I narrowed my eyes at her. Detective Alastair seemed to be observing the interaction just in case there was trouble.

"Why is she here?" I asked.

"Your step-mother and I were very worried about you." Dad said, simply.

"She is not my step-mother." I shot back.

I back-stepped, sincerely wishing that I was with Ashley again. I missed him so much. I missed CC and his humour and I missed Dani.

"She is. And you will be coming home with us. I want to be able to keep an eye on you." My Dad said.

"An eye on me?" I snapped, incredously. "You never cared about me. Why should you start now?"

I glanced at Andrea again. She looked bored and a little disinterested that my Dad and I were having a blazing row. Of course, she didn't really want me around and had made that perfectly clear when Dad and Mum had talked on the phone. Mum would beg Dad to visit me.

"I want to make it up to you." Dad said.

"And what about Andrea? Wouldn't you like to ask her permission first?" I knew it was low, but I was furious.

Alastair seemed to sense that this was not going the way he anticipated and he led my Dad away to talk. I stayed with the younger detective, Laura, I think.

She walked over, clasping a hand over my shoulder and smiling at me. A phone rang nearby and she let go, strolling over and answering it. I glanced at her and her face became very pale. She said a few things then walked over to Alastair.

She whispered something to him and the the foyer became alive with movement. I heard the words 'new video' and my eyes widened. I rushed to a nearby computer and watched as the video stream was loaded up. Sphinx appeared on screen and I clasped my hand over my mouth.

"Good Morning, London. Today the games will end. No riddle this time, but a race instead. Let's see who can find the bombs first." The voice said.

The image flickered off and a picture lit up the screen. it was jumbled mess of images. Everyone seemed puzzled by it.

"Where's Luna?" Alastair shouted.

"She left half an hour ago." Someone called.

I glance back at the image and then looked at my Dad. He was talking to Andrea. Both of them were motioning to me. They looked like they were having a heated debate. My eyes went to the screen and I studied the image. For a moment I thought then something clicked in my mind.

I had seen this image before on the wall of Ashley's bedroom in amongst the newspaper clippings. It was the Eye. The London Eye. I stepped back and fled, sneaking by my Dad. He barely noticed. I needed to get there before the police figured it out. I also needed to head somewhere else first. I stopped at a telephone box and paused.

i found the advert I was searching for.

"Leo, open up, please." I shouted.

The door opened the criminal lawyer was standing on the front porch. He looked confused by my sudden appearance. I knew he'd be the man to help.

"Hey, Rini. Where are Ashley and CC?" He asked.

"They're at the London Eye." I murmured, and his own eyes widened.

He must have realised what this meant. He looked worried, running his hands through his normally slick hair.

"I need you help." I begged.

"Woah, no way. Not for two terrorists." He said, stepping back.

"Please Leo, please." I cried.

He faltered and sighed deeply. He shut the door and I knew then that I'd failed. Just as I was about to leave, he opened the door again and was putting on his coat and shoes and grabbing some keys. He led me to his car and we got in. Leo knew we had to be quick.

"How long?" He asked, as we drove.

"The whole time." I replied.

He nodded as though fully comprehending the severity of the situation. We sped down the streets. avoiding traffic.

"Can you help them?" I asked, and he he sighed again.

"I don't do this for many people, but I have a friend that can help." Leo said, grinning.

We got to the Eye just in time. The police seemed to have sussed out the mystery as they had the surrounding area cornered off. Leo and I rushed over and he looked around. The police seemed to be frantically searching for bombs.

The Eye had been evacuated and people were watching from the streets as this all transpired. The Eye began to turn and this shocked everyone. All around us, mobile phones began to buzz as people recieved texts. Leo pulled out his phone, looking at the screen. The police had found the bomb.

The panic was almost over, but there were still two terrorists on the run. Someone screamed and everyone looked skyward. Inside one of the capsules were two figures. Leo seemed to realise at the same time as me. Before we could push through the crowd, a loud ringing explosion sounded, blowing up the capsule and nearly demolishing the Eye.

People screamed and ran away. I stayed rooted to the spot in silent horror. I sank to my knees. They had killed themselves. Was this really the end game? Leo stepped over and put a hand to my shoulder. He was shaking his head.
