Russia

The snow made it nearly impossible to see that morning. The sun barely broke through the cloud coverage as the snow blanketed the area. The road spread out ahead, long and winding until it halted at two large, steel gates.

The gates seperated the rest of Russia from the Mayak, a Russian nuclear facility. The facility extended for an extra 20km due to the exclusion zone. The site was unknown, stored away from prying eyes.

In the distance, the sound of a snow mobile could be heard. The sound cut across the barren site and continued to increase in intensity. From out of the blizzard, the snow mobile pulled to a stop near some trees.

A lone figure climbed off and walked over to the fence, pausing to take a look at the steel gates. No guards would be walking by for quiet some time, but even so, time was of the essense. The figure dropped a ruck sack on the snow and unzipped it removing a walkie-talkie.

"Sphinx 1, come in." The figure mumured.

For a moment, there was silence, then the walkie talkie crackled into life.

"This is Sphinx 1, loud and clear," A voice said. "I have infiltrated the facility. Prepare for departure."

"Copy that." Sphinx 2 replied.

He shifted and grabbed the ruck sack, stuffing the walkie talkie back inside and and slinging it over his shoulder before climbing onto the fence.

A single row of barbed wire lined the top of the fence. Sphinx 2 dug around in his pocket and pulled out a knife, carefully cutting the wire with it until he could safely climb over.

He jumped onto the snow, rolling to to stop himself from falling. He regained his balance, chuckling a little and running across the snowy landscape.

In the distance, the facility loomed over the horizon. He paused at the side of the facility where one of the doors was, digging into his jeans pocket and pulling out a diagram of the facility. Sphinx 1 would need to slip out the side door to avoud being seen.

He began to walk round, but paused when he saw two guards walking towards him. He ducked behind some crates and waited for them to walk by. Maybe they sensed something was going on. He watched them continue their round before getting up and continuing.

Sphinx 2 stopped at a wall near the side exit. He set the ruck sack down again, opening it carefully and spraying something onto the wall. He removed the small amount of gasoline in the rucksack and tossed it at the wall, covering it completely.

The side door opened and he jumped back, preparing for a fight. Sphinx 1 stepped out and narrowed his eyes.

"Light it and let's go." He muttered.

Sphinx 2 nodded and picked up his ruck sack, accepting the lighter from Sphinx 1 and clicking the small nub. The moment the flame touched the wall, the words lit up in flame.

"We should take a photo." Sphinx 2 whined.

"Fine, go ahead." Sphinx 1 said, pulling out his phone, aiming it at the wall.

He snapped a photo before pocketing the phone and walking away. The two of them got a few metres away and then the gun shots sounded. Both of them looked round to see several guards advancing towards them, shouting at them in Russian.

"Did you clip the wire?" Sphinx 1 asked.

"I did, indeed." Sphinx 2 replied.

They started to back up and Sphinx 1 removed a small device from his pocket, holding it up.
"I left these Cold War bastards a little present." Sphinx 1 said, amusement in his tone.

He pressed the button on the device and one of the small warehouses went up in smoke. The enusing explosion caused the guards to look around, wildly. Another explosion shook the ground and the guards seemed torn about what to do.

Sphinx 1 and 2 nodded at each other and ran back towards the steel fence, climbing over it. They slipped through the trees and got on board the snow mobile, disappearing into the night.
In the side of the facility near the exit were the words 'God A.'

Welcome to my new story. A very different thing from I Need You Here Tonight. I will post the prologue and first chapter as the prologue is very short and only introduces Sphinx 1 and 2.
