Novocaine Hearts

Lexa's POV

We all sat awkwardly on plastic chairs somewhere backstage.
Our interviewer; Cici Babcock from Alternative Press, was helping the camera man set everything up before she got ready.
I could hear Hayley and Amy chatting and Juliet and Riley whispering on the other side of me.
I wanted this to be over already.
"Okay, I think we are about ready. Ladies, game faces" Cici said sitting down and placing her papers in her lap. She placed 4 microphones between us all and one for herself.
The camera man counted us in on his fingers and Cici started.
"Hey, what's up guys, I'm Cici Babcock, the LA correspondent for Alternative Press and today I'm in Orlando, Florida with the Women of Warped. So if my lovely ladies would all like to introduce themselves" she said, gesturing to the person closest to her.
"Hey, I'm Amy Lee of Evanescence."
"Hi, I'm Hayley Williams of Paramore."
"I'm Ash Costello of New Years Day."
"I'm Jenna McDougall of Tonight Alive."
"Hey, I'm Lynn Gunn of Pvris."
"I'm Taylor Jardine of We Are The In Crowd."
"Hi, I'm Juliet Simms."
"I'm Riley James."
"Hey, I'm Lexa Bennett of Novocaine Hearts" I said nervously. Everyone else sounded so confident.
"Wow, I have a lot of people with me and it is so great to have you all here. This year is so special because there are so many women. How do you guys feel being here today?"
"Umm, well if I can speak on behalf of everyone here, we're all excited and honoured to be apart of Warped Tour. In such an industry that is very male dominated it's important that we use our voice and say that any female artist can be up here too" Hayley said with pride.
All of us just nodded in agreement.
"Now, I know you would get this a lot, but how do you deal with touring with guys?" She said eyeing us all.
"You get used it. You're going to be messy, they're gonna be messy. You deal with it" Amy said casually.
"You never seem to get privacy" Hayley chimed in.
"You end up being the mom. You make sure everyone has eaten or has water. You organise everything for the next day, you're constantly telling them what happens next" Jenna chuckled.
"Or they end up protecting you and being like brothers" I said quietly.
Cici smiled. "All sounds about right. In this profession, it is very difficult to make it as a female artist, how would you guys say, you got into music?"
Everyone then went round explained a bit of their story. It soon got down to Riley and myself.
"Well, I myself, didn't know what I wanted to do. I always liked music, but I never expected to be here. Growing up was rough and I was supporting myself for a long time, so I could never really focus on a future. I've dabbled in a lot of things. I've got my bar, I'm a model, I'm a tattoo enthusiast, and now I'm a musician. And, my mind is still trying to catch up cause I can't believe this is my life" Riley concluded.
"Well you got there in the end, would you say its the end of the line or do you want to do more?" Cici asked Riley.
"End of the line. Music is where I would stay. I feel like I can't get any higher than this and I don't want to. Again, I never aimed for it, but I'm glad I'm here."
"Awesome. Lexa, lucky last, how did you get here?"
"By bus" I joked. Everyone giggled for a moment. "But umm, I got into music when I was about 16. At the time I was going through a lot of things, I was a heavy addict to various drugs and my now band mates found a way to pull me out of it. They realised that I liked making music and it made me stop using. So, naturally we started a band and we were actually good. Getting to Warped Tour has taken us about 3 or 4 years, but we've made it. We have a debut album out and we're all still on cloud 9 about it. It has been the hardest, but most amazing journey."
"So now that you are a full time artist how has it personally helped you?" Cici asked curiously.
"Oh umm, immensely. I've been clean for most of 3 years. My band mates helped me get off drugs when we legitimately started recording and it has turned my life around."
"Wow, sounds like you've had a rough time."
I just nodded, wanting my time to be over.
"Okay, well that's all we have time for, so I'll let you ladies go. The Women of Warped issue will be on stands next month so stay tuned. I'm Cici Babcock and we'll see you next time" she said waving to the camera.
The camera guy cut us out and we are free to move.
"Okay guys, you all will be contacted for individual interviews and in our 3 days off we will be at a photoshoot, so do not make plans" Cici stressed giving us all a business card with her number and the address of where we will be for the photoshoot written on the back.
Awesome. Less time to spend with Jake.
"Hey Lexa" I looked up to see Juliet standing in front of me with a smile.
"Hey Jules. How are you?"
"I've been good. How's thing with Jake" she said making her voice all cute.
"It's been good. We're just chatting and stuff" I shrugged.
"He said that last night he said that he liked you."
"Yeah, he did."
"So?! Do you like him?!" She asked excitedly.
"I do. I know, I need to tell him. My band mates aren't happy with me though, but they have reason to be..."
"What do you mean? Jake is a great guy. If they're worried that he'd hurt you, he won't."
"It's not that. I might hurt him. I'm not a good person. He's too good for me" I sighed.
"You can't believe that" she said shaking her head.
"You should believe that. She's probably a very bad influence" Riley taunted, overhearing our conversation.
"Okay, enough! I'm so sick of you with this feud! I've put up with it for 2 weeks, but it ends now!" Juliet spat at Riley.
"I'm not the one with the problem" Riley said crossing her arms.
"Please spare me the sob story. Yes, I get it, you had a rough childhood, I'm sorry for misjudging and I'm sorry for calling your husband a manwhore! So can you stop hating on me!" I snapped.
"Riley, do you have something to say?" Juliet asked her like she was a misbehaving child.
She rolled her eyes and sighed. "Fine, I'm sorry for being a massive bitch. It is uncalled for and I'm sorry you've been a victim of it."
"Now was that so hard?" Juliet said wrapping an arm around each of us.
"Doesn't mean I can't be a bitch to you" Riley said to Juliet.
"Oh no, I'm living with you. I don't wanna hear it. Be a bitch in your own time."
"New album still doing your head in?" I asked quietly.
"Yes. The label are being dicks. I'm trying my best though."
"You'll get there. It generally all comes at once."
"Yeah, but I don't even have the time to write right now. I don't know how the guys do it on the road..." she trailed off.
"Anyways, we're going back to BVB's bus, they'd be getting ready by now. Wanna come?" Juliet asked.
"Sure, I might as well spend as much time with Jake as I can."
"Why do you say that?" Juliet questioned.
"Nate has put a curfew on me. After BVB's show I have to stay with them."
"What?!" They said in unison.
"I know, it's stupid, but it's for my own good. I don't expect you guys to understand."
"Well have fun telling Jake. He really likes spending time with you" Juliet commented.
"Really?"
"Really. Come on, lets catch them before they go on stage."

As we were walking towards the bus, all of Black Veil Brides were exiting and making their way to the main stage.
I went straight up to Jake and held his hand.
"I like you too."
Jake grinned widely.
"Can I kiss you then?"
Those were words I had never heard. No one had ever asked.
I couldn't help but, smile widely and nod my head.
Jake stopped us and let everyone go ahead. And then he kissed me. Gently and softly. His hands gripped my waist and pulled me closer. I never wanted this to end.
"Jake! Oh..." Someone called, but he didn't stop.
When he finally pulled away I saw a change in his face. Like a weight was lifted.
"I'm sorry, I've just really wanted to kiss you."
"That's okay. No one's ever asked. Nor have I ever been clean for it" I said pulling out my cigarettes.
Jake raised an eyebrow.
"Promise you won't judge me if I tell you this."
"Who am I to judge" he shrugged.
"I've never been with anyone... as boyfriend and girlfriend. I've been with people, but I don't remember half of them and most would have been on night stands or someone I'd see for a week then their gone."
"Well you know I'm not like that. I would actually like to get to know you" he said pecking my cheek.
"I would like that."
