Novocaine Hearts

Jake's POV

I watched as Lexa walked off with Saxon.
My feelings for her were so strange. I mean, I liked her yes, but there was something more. Like she was the reason everything happened.
I could tell she was new at all this. Everyone's first Warped Tour is always the hardest to adjust to, but it wasn't just that. The way holds herself... it's like everything is new. Maybe it's cause she hasn't been clean for so long.
Whatever it was, I wanted to know. I wanted to know her life.
Tonight, I got one piece of her. I can't imagine what it must have been like growing up with out a family that loved her. I can understand why she is so messed up.
The concept of love doesn't exist to her. It makes me want to show her.
I sighed as I lost sight of them and joined the others on the bus.
Everyone was showering and getting ready for bed. Andy and Ashley sat on the couches with wet hair next to Juliet and Riley.
"How'd she do tonight?" Juliet asked.
"She's good. I really don't think I need to give her lessons, she knows how to play. I think I just wanna spend time with her" I shrugged.
"Do you like her?" Andy chimed in.
"I think I do... I told her I did, but she had to go back to her bus."
"How rude, she didn't reply" Riley said, completely uninterested in the conversation.
"Seriously? Are you going to be a pain in the ass? Get over yourself!" Juliet argued.
"Get over myself?! Really Jules? God, is the music so loud that you don't see what's happening! She was talking shit about us! About me and Ashley!" She yelled.
"Big fucking deal! People talk shit everyday about each other. There's nothing you can do, it's human nature. Just grow a pair and suck it up!"
"Why should I suck it up? One of my best friends is calling me a bitch behind my back, some friend" she scoffed and got up off the couch, storming out of the bus.
"Well that got rid of her. I'm going to bed" Ashley announced as he left for the bunks.
"This tour is going to be the end of them" Andy said quietly.
"I don't get it, they got on perfectly fine when they first met" Juliet shrugged.
"I think it's just the case of foot in mouth. Lexa said one wrong thing and Riley is sensitive at the moment. We have to get them on good terms if we want to go smoothly" I said sitting in Ashley's place.
"Lets not talk about this. It's frustrating the hell out of me cause I know I'm the one who will have to do it."
"Good luck" Andy said sarcastically.
"Thanks. Anyways, I'll let you guys get some sleep. I better head back to the bus. Hopefully Riley went straight to bed" she said, sighing. She gave Andy a kiss then got up and left.
Andy watched her leave before turning to me.
"How you doing Jake? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Really. Lexa has taken my mind off everything. She is really a cool person. She has said that even in her worst times, music was there and made her want to be clean."
"Sounds like you are really intrigued by her" Andy commented.
"She tells a story. Not through words, but her actions. You've seen her ink, yeah?"
Andy nodded.
"Mainly to do with her inner demons. She wants to be better, but it's like she doesn't know how."
"As you've said, she hasn't had a normal life. She finally has the chance and maybe it'll take you to show her."
"I kinda want it to be."
Andy just gave me a knowing look. "I think you've answered your own question."

Lexa's POV

"Where have you been?" Nate stressed upon my arrival.
"Where do you think? Jake" Saxon spat, answering for me.
"Where is this coming from?" Nate continued.
"I like hanging out with him. It's nice."
"We're not here for nice. We're here to put on a kickass show everyday! I don't want you distracted" Nate said, placing his hands on my shoulders.
"I'm fine. And you have no problem with Black Veil Brides. Just let me hang out with them. I promise, I'm fine. Nothing will happen. I already told Saxon this is the best I've ever felt, just let me hang out with them, please?"
Nate and Saxon exchanged a look.
"Lex, please don't lie to me. We've been there for all of your problems and we've noticed a pattern over the years. It roots from men" he said over dramatically.
"Really? I would have never guessed" I said, laying on the sarcasm. "Like seriously, you know how you guys sound. I know! I'm not stupid. But Jake is different. I'm different!"
"And I want to believe you, but it's a huge risk. Can you at least tone it back. It's too much at the moment and we need to know you're okay" Nate breathed, leaning down so he could make eye contact with me.
"You can't do this. I'm not a dog on a leash. Why can't you trust me?"
"Cause we've heard it all before. Lexa, just see him during the day and stay with us after their show" Saxon offered.
"You guys are worried about nothing. Did you ever think that maybe Jake is good for me? Maybe I'll have a proper boyfriend that actually knows how to treat a girl."
"But you won't know how to treat him" Saxon commented.
"YES I WILL!" I screamed.
"Guys stop!" Nate cut in. "Saxon, can you let me handle this? Go to bed" he ordered.
"Nate, you have to understand. I'm not getting any bad feelings" I pleaded when Saxon left.
Nate sat me down on one of the couches and he kneel in front of me. He took my hands in his and gazed at me. "Lexa, I'm only being overprotective cause of last time. I'm not sure if you remember, but I do. That guy broke your heart and as your friend, it was really hard for me to watch you drink and drug yourself up over a guy who only used you for sex. It was to the point where you were suicidal. You almost drowned."
I felt my face drop. "I don't remember any of this..." My mind was trying to scan itself for answers.
"This was about 5 or 6 years ago. You were in a very deep state of numbness. We don't wanna see it happen again. You're finally on the right track and I can't let anything ruin it. So, are we agreed? After the Black Veil Brides show you are to come and find one of us. I think I'm being fair."
I was still trying to wrap my head around everything he just told me. It had to be bad if I didn't even remember it...
"Okay. Agreed."
