Novocaine Hearts

Lexa's POV

The following morning, my head was throbbing, my mouth was dry and I could feel my heart pulsing through my ears.
"Fuck" I groaned as I tried to sit up. When the blanket strained against my movement, I glanced beside me and saw a mess of black hair and tattooed arms; Jake. He was slightly snoring, with his back towards me.
I concentrated and tried to remember what we were doing last night.
We went out for cocktails... I got drunk... blank...
Well it couldn't have been that bad then...
I threw the covers off myself and gently got out of bed, trying not to disturb Jake.
I put on one of my band t-shirts and some shorts, seeing as I was only wearing underwear and ventured out into the apartment.
Parker, Andy and Juliet were all perched on the couch, the TV at a muted volume, chatting in whispers.
"Hey guys" I croaked as I exited my bedroom.
"Afternoon, did you sleep off all the drugs?" Parker shot.
"What?" I asked confused.
"You heard me! Drugs! Juliet was just talking about how you took E and smoked pot!" Parker raged.
"Whoa, PJ, chill. She's fine. It's not a big deal" Juliet defended.
"No, she's not fine. She can't be encouraged!"
"'She' is right here, and I have no idea what you're talking about" I shrugged.
Parker slapped his palm to his forehead. "Of course you don't" he sighed. "Lexa, I don't want to bring Nate and Saxon into this, but..." Parker was lost for words.
"Lex, don't worry about it. You're fine. Last night was so fun! We all need to go out again" Juliet explained.
I was still confused.
"What's all the shouting about?" A tired Jake moaned as he joined the rest of us.
"Was Lexa doing drugs? Did you egg her on?!" Parker pushed.
"No! I mean, yes she was doing drugs cause I could smell the weed, but I didn't want her too! The whole reason I want her to live with me is so stuff like this doesn't happen!" Jake explained.
"Yeah? Well the source is coming from you're end" he accused, pointing at Juliet.
"Jules?" Jake said in confusion.
She just shrugged.
"Okay, umm backtrack guys... I'm fine. No need to get worked up. Can we all just chill" I said trying to ease the tension. "Listen, if I did take drugs last night, one time thing. I promise I won't do it again" I argued, looking at Jake.
"Empty promises" Parker mumbled.
"PJ please, I'm getting better. You guys know it..." I pleaded, turning to him.
"Maybe you should go live with Jake. He could be the influence you need" he shrugged, then stalked off into his bedroom.
We all stood there in an awkward silence for a moment, before someone spoke.
"Okay... whose hungry?" Andy asks.

"Where's Ashley and Riley?" I ask as we sat at the pub a few streets away from our apartment.
"They went to Nate's since your place was too small for all of us" Andy clarified.
"Oh, was she mad at me?"
"Don't think so, why?" Jake said.
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. "I literally just had a mental blank. I remember her being pissed off..."
"Oh yeah, she was when she saw us smoking the joints" Juliet chimed in.
"What?! She saw?! She would have told Nate!" I shouted.
"Relax dude. Don't you think Nate would have called you if he knew?" Juliet continued.
I shook my head, worry plaguing my thoughts.
Our food arrived and I sat quietly with my thoughts.
Maybe Parker was right. I should move to LA with Jake, even if it's for a few months
"I'll move in with you" I blurted out, interrupting their conversation.
Jake almost did a double take. "What? Really?" He smiled.
"Yeah... a change might be good."
"Yay! I have another buddy!" Juliet cheered.
"You are to not encourage her in any way!" Jake said sternly. "Never thought I'd be saying that to you... Riley would have been my first guess, but apparently she's more responsible."
Juliet pouted at the last comment "I'm not that bad."
"Jules, I need to be clean."
