Heart of Fire
[Part Nine] Sally's Diner
I woke up at 7:00 pm and only had an hour to get ready. I hurried in the shower because I had just been running and quickly did my hair and makeup. I had no idea what to wear since Ashley hadn't really told me what we were going to do.
I settled on a simple black lace dress that was comfy and easy to move in. After running around the house in a rush I still had 15 minutes to spare. I plopped down on the couch and went on my social media. The bands fan base was growing which made me very excited, I had already seen an increase just at my time at Warped.
Before I got much done I heard a patterned knock on the door. I sprang off the couch and opened the door in a smooth motion.
"Hello beautiful, you look amazing," He said a lazy grin on his face.
I could feel my face burning to a scarlet colour, "Thanks Ashley, you look great too."
It was true, he had on loose-fitting black jeans, a black belt, and a somehow dressy yet plain black shirt that complemented his body nicely. His eyes met mine and I felt my stomach turn.
"Of course for you. Would you follow me?" He asked extending his hand.
I took it gratefully and felt my senses heighten when our skin met. Is this how it felt to really be in love? I had never had this feeling before. It seemed like he had the same feeling because I felt him tense up, then relax.
We both ignored this and he led me to his car. He held the door open for me as I stepped in and we drove off.
"So where exactly are we going?" I asked.
"You'll see once we get there." He answered, looking over at me.
"You know, some girls would find this a bit suspicious. You know a guy she doesn't know very well taking her to a place she doesn't know of."
He didn't respond, just shook his head smiling slightly, "You're a tough one."
"I try."
We then pulled up to a restaurant that read Sally's Diner, and it looked as if it was established in the 1950s and kept its decor. "Don't worry its not the diner we're here for." He said getting out and opening my door for me.
He lead me around outback. There was a massive oak tree that was adorned with white lights and underneath it was a blanket that was decorated as well and had an assortment of foods on it. And somehow all of it together looked beautiful.
"I used to come here all the time when I was a kid, and I thought now that we're in my hometown what better time?" he said taking my hand and leading me over to the blanket. It was all surprising, I never took him for the romantic type, not that I was complaining.
"It's beautiful." I said, still in shock, and looking around.
For the next couple hours we ate and exchanged light conversation. It was so easy to talk to him, and everything was going so well. Then afterwards we headed back to his car and traveled home.
We both stood outside of the door to my bus. "Tonight was really fun," I said "I hope we can see each other soon."
"Yeah, of course." He said leaning in to kiss me.
Our lips touched and everything fell away. But it left just as soon as it started. I was glad he was willing to take it slow. But God I feel like I'm in high school all over again.
