You're Torturing Me with a Beautiful Face

-CC’s POV-
“Annah…” I trailed off. I couldn’t believe the sight that was laid out in front of me. Her skin was deathly pale, her beautiful grey eyes were nowhere to be seen, and her skin was stained in a dark red liquid. Just then did I realize her skin wasn’t stained it was covered in flowing liquid. “No, no, no, no.” I muttered as I rushed to her side. I reached over and the water stopped raining down on her. “Come on, baby, stay with me please. Please, Annah, please stay with me.” I held the back of her head with one of my hands and found a towel with the other one. Nauseated sobs slipped out of my mouth as tears ran down my cheeks. I muttered inaudible words to her; something along the lines of a plea.

“Dude, are you okay?” Ashley’s voice erupted into the bathroom, but I ignored him, keeping my eyes on Annah’s body. “What the fuck! Jake, call 911 quick!”

“Why? What’s wrong?” Jake followed Ashley into the bathroom and gasped. “Oh my…”

“CALL 911!” I yelled at them. “YOU’RE WASTING TIME!” I attempted to muffle my sobs but I couldn’t, this was all too surreal. She was dead. She’s not dead! My subconscious blurted at me. She’s going to make it! “Please, baby, please. We have a life to live, we have a wedding. Think about our future, think about Eli, and think about me, I don’t care what you think about just stay with me!”

“They’re on their way, come on let’s cover her up or something…” Jake knelt next to me and put a hand on my back. I nodded as I started to redress her in her clothes.

I sat on the bathroom floor with my back against the back of the bathtub with Annah lying in my lap. It was scary how much she looked as if she was just sleeping. To anybody it would’ve looked like a very early morning for the both of us and she was just resting her eyes. Oh how I wish that were true.

I gently brushed her beautiful blonde hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. I bent down and kissed her forehead, her temple, her nose, her cheek, and then her lips. As my lips parted from hers I was left with an empty feeling. There was no spark between us as there usually was, there was no two way love between the kiss it was only just me. What if there wasn’t going to be a connection anymore? What if it was going to be me on my own? Wh-what if last night is all I could live off of? What if that was the last time she and I were ever going to be one?

The tears in my eyes started to pour out in a heavier, more rapid pace. The continuous sobs that had been dragged out with the tears suddenly stopped. Breathing suddenly became a harder task. I heard the sirens outside of the bus, but I refused to believe that this was real. My grip tightened on Annah’s body as the paramedics rushed onto the bus and into the bathroom.

“CC, let her go.” Jake said, trying to pry my hands off of Annah. “Come on, bro. Let them have her.” One of the paramedics knelt down next to the both if us and put two fingers up to her neck. “I feel a pulse, let’s go!” They took Annah from my lap and carried her off the bus as I followed close behind.

“No! Annah! Please, don’t!” I screamed as I clawed at the closest medic. “Annah!” I shrieked. Jake and Ashley ran up behind me and lurched at me, wrapping their arms around my body to confine me. “Annah!” I yelled desperately. Sobs resurfaced as I stopped fighting against Jake and Ashley. I sunk to the ground as ambulance sped off.

By then, most of the bands had stepped out of their bus or had their head out of the window to see what was going on, but it didn’t matter. She wasn’t in my arms with me… It’s sickening how someone so beautiful could do that to themselves. Or how such a perfect night could turn into a nightmare.

“Come on, let’s go. I’ll take you to the hospital, okay?” Jake reassured me while he threw an arm over my shoulder and took my hand to help me get up.

“Wait,” I said quietly. I walked back onto the bus and went over to our bunk. I got out my duffle bag and started to throw a bunch of my clothes in it as well as a pair for Annah when she got out of the hospital. I grabbed my drumsticks and put them in there. I gazed at the bunk one last time when my eyes landed on a brown leather book. I took it within my grasp, carefully tracing a finger over it. It was a small brown, worn leather journal. On the top was a compass with “Not all who wander are lost,” sketched below it in a black ink. Time wouldn’t allow me to read through it now, so I placed it in the bag along with the other things and walked off the bus.

Jake sat in the driver’s seat of Juliet’s car with the ignition started. I climbed in and threw the duffle bag over my shoulder into the backseat. I buckled my seatbelt, looked over at Jake and nodded. He looked back at me, sympathy gleaming in his eyes. I shook my head, not wanting to hear his words. “Just go, please.” I said in a sort of monotone voice. I wasn’t ready to receive condolences yet; all I wanted to do was see my Annah. I turned to look out the window as we left the venues parking lot and got onto the highway.

Within a few minutes we made it to the hospital. Jake stopped and let me out at the doors before going to find a parking spot. I rushed inside, whipping my head side to side in hopes of seeing Annah. Just then, all shit hit the fan. Annah was sped past me, and I started to follow, but someone yelled my name in a panic yet relinquished voice. Ignoring the voice, I ran after Annah hoping they would let me go through the doors with her, but a nurse stopped me.

“I’m sorry, honey, you can’t go in there.” The nurse put a hand on my chest as I peeked through the skinny glass window set in the door. I sighed sadly, and turned around. “We need a room for Mr. Reese, quickly!” I heard somebody order through a phone. Mr. Reese? I thought. I was so stressed and confused mentally I ran up to the man and demanded where Eli was. Irony struck just as he was sped past me like Annah was. “Eli!” I yelled at him, like I expected to hear a response from him.

All the while this happened; my name was repeatedly called more urgently each time. Finally, after being annoyed by the constant yelling, I turned around facing the person. “What do you want?” I screamed at them, “Leave me the fuck alone!” My eyes adjusted in on the woman’s face. I felt my eyes grow wider and my expression change into shock as she strutted toward me.

“Nice to see you too, CC.” She taunted me.

“Lauren…”
