Between The Roses

World of Sacrifice

Rain was falling from the sky by the bucket while the wind whipped around. Fall in California was warm but the storms that happened were pretty bad. I was sitting in wheelchair with Lincoln safely in my arms while Andy was finalizing the papers so I can head home. Lettie stood beside me and was eyeing up Lincoln with weirdly googly eyes. I looked up at Andy and raised my eyebrows.

“How’s it going up there?” I asked.

“Almost done,” he told me as he signed the paper and handed it to the nurse.

“Alright, you guys are set to go. Drive safely, it’s really storming out there,” she smiled at us before Andy nodded and began pushing my wheelchair towards the door.

“I’ll go grab your car,” Lettie said before she grabbed the keys from Andy’s hand and left the building. Andy stopped walking just inside the door and walked around the front to look at me.

“Are you excited to go home?” He asked and I smiled.

“Extremely. Are you excited for us to come home?” I asked and he nodded before leaning over and giving me a kiss.

“Of course I am. The house is quiet without you there,” he answered and then he kissed the top of Lincoln’s head.

“Your parents are there, how is it quiet?” I asked.

“They’re there, but they don’t talk to me much because I’m up here mostly,” he answered before he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Gotcha. Are you prepared for sleepless nights and a screaming infant?” I asked and he chuckled.

“Of course I am,” he chuckled sarcastically. I smiled before shifting Lincoln in my arms and looking outside just as Lettie pulled up to the door.

“There’s Lettie,” I said and he walked back behind me to push the wheelchair. Lettie came walking into the building.

“That rain is really cold,” she chuckled before smiling down at me and Lincoln. Andy pushed us toward the car and once we were next to it, he opened the door and I carefully stood and buckled Lincoln in the carseat before I walked around the car and sat next to him and buckled myself in. Andy returned the chair to the hospital before he climbed in the driver’s seat and started the car. Lettie climbed in the passenger seat and we were off. My hand unconsciously rested itself on the carseat and let Lincoln wrap his hand around my finger.

“What’s the first thing you’re gonna do when you get home Sadee?” Lettie asked and I sighed.

“I am going to lay down on the couch with Lincoln and watch Netflix,” I told her and she chuckled.

“That sounds like a really great plan,” Lettie laid her head back on the seat and sighed. “So Sadee.”

“So Lettie,” I copied her and she smiled.

“Callum called Brett yesterday,” she began and I raised an eyebrow.

“About what?” I asked.

“He wants back in the band,” she stated and I swallowed.

“He does, does he? What did Brett say?” I asked.

“He said he would talk to you about it and maybe meet up with Callum sometime next week,” she answered and I nodded.

“Does Cal think I forgive him?” I asked and she shrugged.

“I don’t know but he sounded a little sad on the phone,” she told me and I sighed again.

“I’ll talk to Brett and Aidden about it, but there is no guarantee that we will decide to let him back in,” I stated and she nodded.

“Oh no worries, I know that. I think Cal finally realized where he went wrong and feels like shit because of it,” she said and I shrugged. We then grew quiet. Andy drove down the road and I looked over at Lincoln. He was sleeping but still had his hand wrapped around my finger. His little lips were in a pouting position and he had a little double chin because of how his head was positioned. A smile grew over my face as I stared at him, sorta proud of myself for creating that sorta proud of myself for not freaking out yet.

“We’re home now. It’s still raining so let me go grab an umbrella from the house before we get Lincoln out,” Andy said quickly before he left the car and ran into the house. I shrugged and unbuckled myself before I opened my door slightly to let in some of the colder air. Andy came running back out and opened my door the rest of the way and helped me out of the car. The two of us walked around the car and opened the door on Lincoln’s side. I got to unbuckling his carseat while Andy held the umbrella over us. As we walked to the front door and into the house, it seemed like the rain was getting heavier. Once we were inside fully, I kicked off my shoes and then walked into the living room with Lincoln. Andy went back out to grab the bags and such. Amy was sitting in the chair by the window while Chris was on the couch. When I saw them I smiled and set Lincoln’s carseat down on the ground before I sat on the couch.

“How was the drive home?” Amy asked.

“Pretty good, no crying from the little guy at all. He slept the whole time,” I smiled as I unbuckled Lincoln from his seat and pulled him up with me and then set him on my chest.

“So what’s your plan for the rest of today?” She asked after a few minutes of silence.

“Um, probably just gonna be lazy and watch TV all day and night. What about you guys?” I asked.

“We’re gonna go out to dinner,” she smiled and I chuckled. The front door then opened again and in walked both Andy and Lettie. The two of them immediately went upstairs to put things where they belong.

“How long are you taking off of work?” Chris asked me.

“Until at least January,” I said and he nodded.

“Sounds about right,” he chuckled. On my chest, Lincoln squirmed before I heard him begin to make some noises. Here we go with parenting.

“Oh what’s up?” I shifted him so he was laying in my arms as I climbed off the couch and walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle and the formula. He was squirming and making noises, not quite crying, but noises. He hadn’t eaten since two in the morning and it was eleven now. As I made the bottle, Andy walked into the kitchen and smiled at me.

“You look like a true mother,” he chuckled.

“Well considering I pushed this cute little guy out of me like three days ago, I can confidently state that I am a true mother,” I told him and he chuckled again before kissing the top of my head and opening the fridge.

“Lettie just left, but she said that her and Brett will be back later,” he told me as he put some leftover food on a plate.

“Okay. Hey, how long are your parents here for?” I asked.

“They leave on Saturday,” he told me and I nodded.

“Gotcha,” I said before I put the bottle in Lincoln’s mouth and watched him until he began to eat and then I looked back up at Andy.

“Do you think Brett and I should let Cal back into the band?” I asked Andy as I leaned against the counter.

“Do you want him back in the band?” He asked.

“He lied about Zara for a year,” I said and Andy nodded.

“I know, but do you want him back in the band?” He asked me again and I sighed.

“I mean, he was my best friend for the longest time and we work well together. Also, we were the two main lyricists of the band,” I listed off a few things and Andy crossed his arms over his chest. I looked down at Lincoln and pursed my lips.

“Then let him back in,” he told me and I sighed again.

“It’s not up to just me though. Brett, Aidden, and Colt all have a say as well,” I said and he nodded.

“I know how bands work hun,” he chuckled and I narrowed my eyes at him.

“Don’t you get all mockery towards me. If I didn’t have an infant in my arms, I would slap you,” I kept my eyes narrowed and he burst into laughter.

“Saved by the baby,” he chuckled and then walked towards me and Lincoln and leaned down to give me a kiss. When he pulled away, he walked back over to his plate to put it into the microwave. I shifted Lincoln and looked down at him.

“Talk with Brett later and then with the rest of your band next week. I know that you may seem like you don’t want to let Cal back in the band, but I know you and I know that you want him in the band,” he leaned against the counter across from me. In my arms, I felt Lincoln squirming in my arms and signaled to me that he was done eating. Immediately I put him up on my shoulder and began to burp him. Andy watched me contently, most likely admiring how natural I was at being a mom. I admire myself at how natural I am. I never thought that I would like being a mom or that I would be any good at it. But now that I am a mom and I actually have to take care of another human being, I can’t imagine or think of a reason why I wouldn’t want to be a mom.

Notes

It has been way too long since I updated and I am so sorry about that. But I had lots of stuff happening and I was a little distracted. Here is a new chapter that I really hope you like. I am debating about letting Callum back into the band but I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to. Let me know down below if you want me to let him back in!

I hope you liked it!
