Between The Roses

Land of Make Believe Part One

Two weeks of sunshine and warm temperatures came to a crashing halt when the weather forecasted a week of heavy rain and cold temperatures. I was laid out on the couch with a book in my hands as the TV made background noise. The house was empty, except for me that is. Andy was off getting his parents from the airport. Being on bedrest sucks something severe. This time I can get up and make my own food and all that, but I am still supposed to be off my feet most of the time. I’m excited to be a mom in the coming weeks, but at the moment I wish I wasn’t pregnant. Because if I weren’t, I’d be able to be me and go to the beach or hang out with my sister. But instead, I am forced to be laying around on the couch all day.

As I sat there, reading my book and letting my mind wander, I heard the front door open and then heard the voices of Andy, his dad, and his mom. I set my book down on the side table and shifted so I was sitting. From around the corner I saw Amy walk in and smile at me.

“Hey,” she greeted me and came over to give me a hug.

“Hey. How was your flight?” I asked.

“A little bumpy at times but fine nonetheless. How are you doing honey?” She asked me as she sat down on the couch next to me.

“I’m fine. Sick of being on bedrest-ish again, but I’m getting through it,” I smiled and she chuckled.

“Andy was telling us about that. You’re at the end of your pregnancy now, are you excited?” She asked and I shrugged.

“More or less ready to have the kid so I can stop being tired all the time,” I sighed and she laughed.

“Oh sweetie, once he’s born it’ll only get worse,” she said and I smiled.

“You see, right now I’m the only one who’s tired because I’m constantly uncomfortable and all that. Once he’s born it will be both of us who are tired because we will both be taking care of him, not just me,” I explained and she nodded.

“Okay, I’ll give that to you,” she said. The two of us then grew quiet as we sat there. I could hear Andy and Chris talking in the dining room but couldn’t make out what was being said. Presumably about father son things, but I can’t be sure. I know that it is really hitting me that in a few short weeks I am going to be a mom, something I never thought would happen, something I never wanted before I met Andy. But when I think of how Andy must be taking it, I can only imagine. I’m scared that I am going to mess up, but I know that Andy is probably thinking the same.

Later That Night
-------------------------

From in the kitchen, I could smell Amy making something for dinner and it smelled amazing. Part of me wished I could cook better, but I know that I can’t, so therefore I won’t worry. Andy was sitting next to me on the couch while his dad was in the chair by the window. The entire day was super relaxing, just watching TV and talking, catching up. But now, Amy decided to cook us all dinner and we were just going to sit around and talk all night. Being on bedrest is very annoying and really limits what I can do.

“So how excited are you Sadee about becoming a mom?” Chris asked and I looked at him.

“It slightly terrifies me that I’m going to be a mom, but I think I’m pretty excited about it,” I smiled and he chuckled.

“Being a parent is terrifying sometimes but you guys will get the hang of it,” he smiled and I nodded. Amy walked into the room at that moment and smiled at us.

“Dinner's ready,” she gleamed and the three of us in the living room got up from our spots and walked into the kitchen. Andy unconsciously began making me a plate before handing the filled plate of food to me. I rolled my eyes and walked into the dining room and sat down. The other three joined me shortly after that and we all began to eat. The food was fantastic and more delicious than anything I could ever dream of making. As I sat there, I felt a super sharp and super painful pain run over my stomach that made me wince slightly but not enough to get the attention of the others. This can’t be good. I sat there, still, waiting for another pain, but when nothing happened I swallowed and continued eating. Amy and Andy were talking about something that I couldn’t quite catch while Chris was watching them intently. Living all the way over in Cincinnati while Andy and I live out here in LA must be hard for them.

----------

Once dinner was finished with and we all were stuffed, I decided to go upstairs and take a nice warm bath, to relax myself. As I climbed the stairs I felt another pain that, this time, made me stop walking and grip the railing tightly, waiting for the pain to go away. When it did go away, I went up the stairs the rest of the way and walked to my bedroom to strip from the clothes I was in and wrap a towel around my chest. As I was doing that, another pain hit and continued for a good twenty seconds. This isn’t just normal pains, but I have no idea what they were because I’ve never been pregnant before. I swallowed and walked into the bathroom to draw the water for my warm bath.

While I waited for the water to fill, pain shot all over my stomach and lasted for quite some time. When the water was filled, I shut off the faucet and slowly climbed in. Maybe a warm bath will calm my stomach down. After getting comfortable, I grabbed my phone and played some calming music before I leaned back and closed my eyes to relax. But as I laid there, more pains shot across the pelvic area and almost brought me to tears. It was scaring me by this point so I decided to text Andy to come up by me. While I waited for him to do so, another pain hit and it clicked in my brain that I was having contractions. Then the door to the bathroom opened and Andy had a concerned look on his face.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“No, I’m pretty sure I’m having contractions,” I said and he took in a deep breath.

“Uh, what do you want me to do for you?” He asked.

“Help me out of the tub for starters, then go get your mom,” I told him and he immediately walked over to me and helped me out of the water and then into the bedroom. As I began to get into lounge pants and a tank top, another contraction began and basically immobilized me. Luckily I had my clothes on when Amy walked in with a scared looking Andy and a sort of worried Chris.

“How far apart are they?” Amy asked.

“Uh, somewhere between five and ten minutes,” I told her and she nodded.

“Okay, normally you don’t go to the hospital until the contractions are happening roughly every five minutes and lasting for quite some time,” she explained and I nodded.

“So I have to sit here and wait?” I asked and she nodded.

“Perfect,” I muttered to myself before climbing further into the bed and laying down.

“Your dad and I will be downstairs. You stray here with your wife,” Amy instructed Andy before her and Chris left the room and Andy climbed into the bed next to me.

“Does this mean we’re going to be parents soon?” He asked and I chuckled.

“Maybe,” I told him and he smiled.

“We should probably choose Godparents then,” he chuckled and I smiled at him.

“I vote Lettie as Godmother,” I said and he nodded.

“Considering that her and Brett are probably going to be together forever, I think Brett should be Godfather,” he explained to me and I smiled.

“Awe, you like my bandmates,” I said and he nodded.

“Some of them. I don’t know Colt and Aidden that well yet, but Brett’s cool,” he agreed and then I felt another contraction hit. This one made the breath in my throat hitch and I grabbed the closest thing, Andy’s arm, and squeezed.

“Oh my god this sucks ass,” I complained when the pain subsided.

“I can only imagine,” he said before kissing my forehead.

“I really don’t want to wait for the contractions to be five minutes apart. Every labor is different, mine could be all fucked up and go really fast,” I sighed and he nodded.

“That is very true,” he agreed before sitting up. “Does that mean you want to go to the hospital now?”

“Yeah. And I’m sure Dr. Parksley would want me to anyways,” I answered and he nodded before standing and helping me up from the bed. The second I was standing I felt something wet run down my legs. Shit, my water broke.

Notes

Alright, so I lied about when she would go into labor. It made more sense in my head to do it now. Also I couldn't think of a filler chapter to write because I was so excited to write this chapter and the next one.

Next chapter includes Sadee having the baby, which is going to be named Lincoln.
