Between The Roses

Here's To Tonight

One week filled with rain and storms had finally past and left behind it sun and warmth. Two things I am very happy about. Over the last week I had actually been a lot more productive than I had when I was working. Andy and I got the crib put together, got the changing table put together, and we got the nursery painted and the wall decals hung. The room was really shaping up to look pretty badass and I was very proud of that. But today was the day we would, hopefully, get the rest of the things we need for the room.

Early this morning, 8 o’clock, my sister and Lettie decided to grace me and Andy with their presence. Andy didn’t have to be to the studio until 11 and the shower didn’t start until 1. Why they decided to be at my house that early, I have no idea. Currently I was sitting in the kitchen, surrounded by a half finished banner. Lauren sat across from me flipping through a booklet she brought with her and Lettie was in the kitchen getting some of the food prepared.

“Tell me again why you decided to show up at 8 in the morning?” I asked my sister and she smiled at me.

“Because there is still a lot we have to finish making and doing. I figured 5 hours should be enough time to finish that,” she smiled.

“But you made me get up out of my very warm and very comfortable bed that I was sleeping in with my husband,” I narrowed my eyes at her and she chuckled.

“Well, too bad. You’re the one who decided to put me and Lettie in charge,” she stick her tongue out at me.

Five Hours Later
-----------------------

My feet padded across the floor as I made my way from the living room to the kitchen to grab some crackers to snack on while we all waited for more people to show up. Currently the only people here were me, Lauren, Lettie, and Amy. I don’t have too many girl friends but the ones I do have were invited. When I sat back down on the couch, Amy looked over at me.

“Andy was telling me that you guys decided on a name,” she started and I smiled.

“We did,” I told her and she gave me a look that said to tell her.

“I would love to tell you the name Amy, I really would. But, my sister would kill me because there is a game she put together for you all to play, trying to figure out the name,” I said and she sighed.

“That’s no fun,” she chuckled and I smirked.

“But I am allowed to tell you the middle name, which is Christopher,” I smiled and her face erupted into a very large smile.

“Really?” She asked.

“Really. When I told Andy he said the same thing. He figured I’d want my own father’s name as his middle name but I said I like Chris better, so,” I shrugged and she smiled. We then got quiet, waiting for people to show up. Suddenly the doorbell rang and as I was getting up to answer it, my sister shot up from her seat and ran to the door.

“Or Lauren can answer it,” I sat back down. Everything was quiet, except for the occasional voice from someone at the party.

“Uh Sadee,” I heard my sister call and I groaned. As I was standing to walk over to her, I watched Lettie walk from the kitchen and into the hallway and stop in her tracks. Who’s here? I walked out of the living room and towards the door. When I got there I saw Juliet standing there with a very adorably wrapped gift in her hands.

“What’s the problem Lauren?” I asked.

“Was she invited?” She whispered to me.

“I invited her, so yes, she was invited. Come on in Juliet,” I smiled at her and she walked past my sister and into the house.

“There’s a table in the living room with gifts,” I told her and she thanked me before disappearing into the living room.

“Since when did you talk to Juliet?” Lettie asked me.

“Believe it or not but we’re actually friends. What happened was in the past and we’ve moved on. Her and Andy have been working together and I’ve been talking to her a lot recently. So, I decided to invite her,” I shrugged and Lettie nodded. My sister though, was standing there with her arms over her chest.

“Sadee, she is a crazy bitch,” she said.

“No Lauren, she isn’t. Five years ago she may have been, but she isn’t anymore. She is in a relationship with someone now and she has completely moved on. Drop it,” I told her in an annoyed tone. She sighed before walking into the kitchen.

“Is there anyone else we’re waiting for?” Lettie asked.

“I don’t think so,” I told her and she nodded.

“Okay,” she said and then walked into the living room. I stood in the foyer and closed my eyes. Today was supposed to be drama free, why did my sister have to be that way?

“Alright everyone, lunch is ready and is in the kitchen. After we eat we are going to be playing a few games!” Lettie exclaimed and everyone filed from the living room and into the kitchen.

“Are you okay?” I heard someone ask. When I opened my eyes I saw Juliet.

“I’m fine. Just pissed off at my sister,” I smiled and she chuckled. The two of us walked into the kitchen and grabbed a plate of food.

“So Sadee, are you going to take some time off after having the baby or go right back to work?” I heard Lake ask me when we all were sitting in the living room.

“Andy wants me to take at least until January off of recording and the sort. But he doesn’t want me to tour until like July,” I answered and she nodded.

“What does the rest of your band think about this?” Lake asked after a few minutes.

“They’re fine with it, as far as I know. I am positive that Brett’s fine with it because we talk every day. But I’m not really giving Aidden and Colt an option so,” I shrugged and chuckled. I then grew quiet, just looking around the room at the people that were there. All of these people were there because they were friends with me, something I never really had in my life. A smile grew on my face as I looked at them. When I was growing up, I moved around so often that I never had a stable group of friends. That’s why I was so sad and depressed, aside from what happened with my mom. But when I met Andy, I gained this really big group of friends and it warmed my heart.

“Are you okay there?” Someone’s hushed voice asked and I turned to face it.

“I’m good, just thinking. Are you having fun?” I asked and Juliet smiled.

“I am. I thought it was going to be awkward but it’s not. Except for your sister shooting daggers at me that is,” she chuckled and I looked over at Lauren, who was silent and glaring at Juliet.

“Just ignore her. She thinks she has to be protective of me,” I smiled and Juliet nodded.

“So Andy’s happy about all of this, right?” She asked me suddenly and I was sorta taken aback.

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“I mean is he happy that you guys are having a kid together?” She clarified and I nodded.

“Yeah actually. He was the one who was all for keeping it and all that in the beginning. I was scared of being a mom because of the shitty one I had growing up. But he told me that I would be a good mom and just reassured me that we would be okay,” I said and she smiled. I then looked out the front window and noticed a car I didn’t know and someone walking up to the house.

“Who the hell is here?” I asked myself before standing and walking towards the door.

“Sadee?” I heard Lauren ask as I passed her.

“Someone is here that I don’t know,” I said to her and she immediately got up from her spot and accompanied me to the door.

“I can answer the door on my own you know,” I told her.

“I know, but if it’s someone you don’t know, I’d rather someone else be here in case something happens,” she rubbed my shoulder and I nodded as I pulled the front door open and came face to face with my mother.

“Mom?” Both me and Lauren asked and she smiled.

“Lauren, Sadee. What a surprised to see ya’ll together,” she chuckled as she crossed her arms over her chest.

“What are you doing here?” Lauren asked.

“How did you find out where I live?” I asked.

“Glad to know you’re happy to see me. Can I come inside please?” She asked.

“No, you can’t come inside. What are you doing here?” I asked.

“My daughter is having a baby shower, I wanted to be there for her,” she said and I shook my head.

“No. No you don’t want to be here for me. I didn’t tell you I was pregnant,” I exclaimed and she looked at me.

“Exactly. You didn’t tell me you were pregnant with my grand child,” she told me in a condescending tone.

“I don’t want you here,” I told her and she shrugged.

“Well I flew all the way from Nashville, so I’m here and I’m staying,” she said.

“I didn’t ask you to do that. Go back to Nashville Mom. I don’t want you here,” I repeated myself and she looked up at Lauren.

“Are you going to let her talk to me that way?” She asked.

“You weren’t invited mom. Why are you here?” Lauren asked our mother.

“I’m here because my daughters failed to notify me that one of you is pregnant and both of you got married. Neither of which I was invited to,” she put her hands in the air to emphasis her point.

“We didn’t tell you or invite you because we don’t want you here. Please leave,” I said and she looked at me.

“Sadee, we used to be close, what happened?” She asked.

“We were never close mom,” I said and she furrowed her eyebrows.

“We were. But, care to tell me why you didn’t let me know you were pregnant? And why I had to find out from Zara?” She asked.

“First of all, why the hell are you talking to Zara. And secondly, I didn’t want you to know,” I said and she swallowed.

“Zara moved to Nashville recently and we’ve been working together. Why didn’t you want me to know?” She asked.

“Because I didn’t want you to fuck up my child like you fucked me up,” I told her and she took a step back.

“I didn’t mess you up! I gave you a perfect childhood,” she said.

“Oh you think being raped on multiple occasions and being abused by you and your boyfriends is a perfect childhood?” I asked her and heard numerous gasps behind me.

“That never happened Sadee!” She exclaimed and I shook my head.

“Fuck you mom,” I said and turned from the door to see everyone that was there for the party standing there. Amy and Juliet being the ones closest.

“What’s going on here?” I heard Andy’s voice ask from outside.

“Oh hey there Andy,” I heard my mom greet him.

“Mom, please just leave, you aren’t wanted here,” Lauren pleaded with our mom as I walked into the kitchen. There was a knot building in my chest and I could feel the urge to cry growing. She thinks that none of the shit that happened in my childhood happened? Even when she was part of it? I put my hand on the island and closed my eyes.

“Sadee?” Juliet’s quiet voice sounded and I looked at her.

“Is she gone?” I asked.

“Andy and Lauren are trying to get her to leave,” she said and then put her hands on my shoulders.

“How she even found out where I live, I don’t know. But I don’t want her in my life,” I muttered and she nodded.

“You told me what happened. I understand,” she rubbed one of my shoulders and I heard the front door open and then close.

“She just needs to leave and never come back. I haven’t talked to her in over a year,” I said and Juliet nodded. Then from the entrance to the kitchen, I saw Andy walk in and immediately walk over to me.

“You okay?” He asked. Juliet let go of me and stepped aside.

“I’m fine. Is she gone?” I asked.

“Yeah, she left,” he said and then he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest.

“She has some fucking nerve showing up,” I chuckled and he smiled

“Yeah,” he agreed and then looked over at Juliet.

“I didn’t know you were going to be here,” he said.

“Sadee invited me,” she said and I nodded.

“Well, I hope you’re having fun. Have you guys done anything yet besides eat?” He asked.

“Nope, my mother showed up,” I said and he laughed.

“Good, then I can help people cheat on the games,” he smiled as we all walked into the living room. I shook my head and smiled myself. Of course he’s gonna help people cheat. One thing that surprised me was that it was Juliet that came to comfort me, not Lettie, Amy, or Lake. I’m glad she did though, otherwise I might have started crying.

Notes

New chapter. So I know I said the chapter would be about the baby shower, and it kinda was. But I wanted the awkwardness of Juliet showing up and then Sadee's mom to happen and it was getting to be really long. But next chapter I promise to have Sadee talk about the shower, maybe.

I hope you liked it!
