Between The Roses

A soft sunset colored the sky various shades of pink and purple and gave the whole city a calmer atmosphere. In my hand I had an iced tea from Starbucks while I walked alongside Juliet and Lake in downtown LA. The three of us decided to get away from our other halves and have some fun on the town. So far we’d been into various clothing stores that we’d spent too much money in. Now we were on our way to the beach to just relax for a while before heading back to my house to watch movies.

“What made you and Andy decide on Lincoln as a name?” Lake asked me and I shrugged.

“I’ve kinda always liked that name and since Andy hardly gave me any input for the name, I just decided on it and it stuck,” I answered and she nodded.

“Have you guys finished decorating the nursery?” She asked me as the three of us took our seats at a table.

“Not yet, at the moment the room is kinda just a mess of the gifts that haven’t been put away,” I shrugged and took a sip of my drink.

“You haven’t hit the nesting point yet,” Juliet chuckled and I smiled.

“Not yet, but it’ll happen and I’m sure Andy is going to be scared out of his mind when it does,” I chuckled to myself and the other two smiled.

“Are you scared?” Juliet asked and I sighed.

“I mean, of course I am. There is going to be a small human being that I have to take care of. I’ve also never had a good role model for a mom so I’m freaking out that I’m going to screw it all up. But at the same time I remember that Andy’s there too and he’ll make sure I don’t screw up,” I answered and the two of them nodded.

“I’m gonna be right back,” I heard Lake say after hearing her phone ring. She climbed away from the table and walked away, leaving me and Juliet alone. She was looking down at her fingernails and I knew something was on her mind.

“Are you alright?” I asked and she looked up at me.

“What?” She asked as she raised her eyebrows.

“Are you alright? You look like you have something on your mind,” I told her before taking another sip of my tea.

“I’m fine, just have a lot on my mind,” she said and I furrowed my eyebrows.

“You can talk to me about it you know,” I reminded her and she chuckled and smoothed out her pants.

“I know, I just. We haven’t really had the best of pasts so I figured you were only hanging out with me to appease Andy because we’re working together,” she admitted and I shook my head.

“Juliet I hang out with you because I want to. I know we have a pretty bad past but, I still think you’re a good person and I know that you’ve changed, like I have,” I told her and she nodded.

“We have changed. But, my boyfriend and I broke up last night,” she said and I raised my eyebrows.

“Oh no, are you okay?” I asked and she shrugged.

“We hadn’t moved in together so I don’t have to find a new place to live, but we were together for two years so it’s sorta weird not being with him,” she said and I sighed.

“I get it. I was with Colton for two years before he abruptly left me for some whore he impregnated. But I know you’ll find your happiness, you are a ray of sunshine that is almost too bright to be on its own,” I smiled and she burst out into laughter.

“Wow Sadee, that was inspirational. Where did that come from?” She asked through her laughs.

“I am full of inspirational quotes. I just don’t normally speak them out loud unless they apply, and that one applied to the situation. And it’s true. You are a great person who has big dreams. You’ll find someone who appreciates that,” I assured her and she smiled.

“Thanks Sadee,” she chuckled and then I heard Lake walk back up.

“So sorry to about that. But I have to get going. Callum has a meeting with the label and Graham has been home sick with him all day. We definitely need to do this again,” she told Juliet and I.

“No, it’s fine. Go be with the little cutie,” I told her and she smiled before leaving us alone.

“She is so good with Callum’s kids,” I commented and Juliet furrowed her eyebrows.

“What do you mean? Those kids aren’t hers?” Juliet asked and I shook my head.

“Nope, Ryley and Graham are Callum’s kids from his previous relationship,” I explained and she nodded.

“Gotcha,” she answered and took a sip of her drink. “So what’s Andy doing today?”

“I think he’s being lazy at home. He didn’t have to go to the studio or anything like that today so I believe he said he was going to remain in pajamas all day and lounge around like a lazy person,” I said and she chuckled.

“How about we head back to your place and the two of us organize the nursery?” She suggested and I smiled.

“Sure, why not? And maybe we’ll get Andy to help,” I said as we stood and began walking towards her car.

Three Hours Later

Baby and toddler clothes filled the closet and the shelves were now full of books and small decorations. I had decided to sit down in the glider after three hours or organizing and moving around furniture in the room. Juliet was sprawled out on the floor while Andy was downstairs watching TV.

“Who knew baby stuff could be so exhausting?” I exclaimed with a sigh and Juliet chuckled from the floor.

“Babies are exhausting, you two are in for a lot of trouble,” she reminded me and I scrunched up my nose.

“Don’t remind me. Thanks for helping me with the nursery though,” I thanked her and she shrugged.

“It’s better than sitting in my silent apartment wallowing in my own self pity,” she shrugged as she sat up and looked at me.

“Shall we go see what Andy is up to?” I asked and she nodded her head. The two of us then stood and made our way from the nursery and down the stairs to the living room. Andy was laying out on the couch on his back on his phone. Crow was stretched out on his stomach and the TV was playing rerun of a show I’d never seen. When he heard the two of us walking into the room, he looked up and smiled.

“Whatcha doing?” I asked and he sighed.

“Scrolling on Facebook while watching,” he paused as he looked at the TV. “Well I was watching Hotel, but I have no idea what this is.”

“Okay. We got the nursery all organized and put together. You should check it out. It’s pretty badass,” I told him as I walked around the couch and sat down on the part where his feet weren’t. Crow lifted his head when he saw me and meowed softly.

“Hello to you too Crow,” I greeted him and scratched behind his ears.

“How’s the new Black Veil album coming along?” Juliet asked Andy.

“We’re done recording now. It’s all editing for a few days. But starting next week, I have to go to the label every day to talk about release dates and tour and promoting and all that shit,” he answered and she nodded.

“I have a question,” she started and he looked at her.

“Yeah?” He asked and she swallowed.

“It’s for the both of you really. Do you guys wanna help me make a new album?” She asked.

“Of course,” I answered and Andy nodded.

“Yeah, it’s no problem. Do you need help writing songs or more than that?” He asked.

“I was kinda hoping Sadee would do some vocals with me,” she admitted and I smiled.

“No duh. I’ll help you. But only if you lend your vocals to Falling For Fatality’s new album,” I said and she chuckled.

“Deal,” she laughed and the three of us grew quiet. It was nice being able to sit in the same room as both Andy and Juliet and it not be awkward for anyone. Just a few short years ago and all hell would have broken loose. Time definitely changes people.

Notes

Brand new chapter! Sadee and Juliet are friends now and it's not awkward. In the coming chapters, there will be some songwriting sessions, studio sessions, and parties (fourth of july, summer nights, etc.). I am planning to have Sadee have the small human being in Chapter 20, or at least somewhere around there. I will let you know as we get closer to that chapter!
