I Need You Here Tonight

Sunlight streamed through the window and I could feel the warmth on my back. I opened my eyes and smiled. Jake was still asleep next to me. We were still tangled together under the sheets.

Last night came flooding back to me in a blur. I shuffled about and lifted my left hand to look at the ring on my finger. It was delicate and golden with a little diamond glittering on it. I took a steadying breath.

This could not be happening. I was dreaming. I had to be dreaming. This moment was not real. My frantic shuffling seemed to wake up my boyfriend, sorry, fiance. He was my fiance.

"What are you doing?" Jake asked, leaning on his elbow to look at me.

"I keep thinking this is a dream," I murmured. "That you asked me to marry you and then we-"

"Made love." He finished, grinning when I looked flustered.

"Yeah, that." I said, blushing.

"I can prove it's not a dream." He smirked, leaning forward, kissing me.

I responded, pressing myself closer. His hand gripped my hip. We parted and he pressed his lips to my forehead.

Someone knocked at the door, disturbing the moment. We both looked over and waited to see if they'd go away.

"Kota, Jake, you guys all right? You disappeared last night." Shay's worried voice came from the other side.

"Yeah, we're good. We'll be out in a few." Jake shouted.

"Ok, that's a relief." She called back. I heard her retreating.

We got up and went into the ensuite and had a shower together. What was meant to be a few minutes turned into fifteen minutes. I was still quite sore from last night, but that didn't stop us making out in the shower and laughing when I almost fell over.

We got out eventually and got dressed. By the time we left the room, everyone was awake and hanging about the lounge.

"God, you two," Tay stomped over. "You had us all worried sick last night."

"Speak for yourself." Ariana muttered.

"Yeah, where'd you go to?" Shay appeared next to me. Her eyes went to my hand and widened. She let out the loudest squeal ever, causing everyone to look up.

"They're engaged." She shrieked, pulling me into hug.

Tay looked shocked for all of two second before regaining her composure and hugging Shay and me. Alex walked over to Jake and congratulated him. Oli did the same and Hannah gave me a hug.

"Oh my god, congratulations to you both." She gushed.

Kellin ran over, pulling me into a side-splitting hug. He let go and did the same to Jake.

"Congrats, you guys," He smiled. "Fuck it, I'm planning the wedding."

"Like hell you are." Shay snapped, laughing.

"Fuck you all. I think we all know who's planning it." Jack grinned.

"Yeah, not you, shitface." Ben chuckled, shaking Jake's hand and issuing a congratulations as well.

Bret walked over once everyone else had hugged me and he did the same.

"I knew." He whispered.

He pulled back, smirking. Jenna must have heard because she punched his arm, laughing as well.

"Well, let's celebrate." Danny leapt up from the couch, holding up a glass of orange juice in a toast.

"Hang on, my dad has champagne." Alex said, rushing out the room.

"Can I see the ring?" Hannah asked, and I held up my hand. She held my small hand in hers and looked at it. "Awh, it's so pretty."

Alex reappeared with two bottles of champagne. He opened one and Vic helped open the other. Tay went to the cupboard and pulled out a load of wine glasses. Champagne was poured into each one and everyone had a glass.

"I should do the toast as I'm her best friend." Shay said.

"It should be you and Oli." Ashley grinned.

Oli and Shay held their glasses up and everyone else copied them. Shay cleared her throat.

"To my beautiful best friends Dakota and Jake. You guys are adorable. Please let me be maid of honour." She grinned.

"To Dakota and Jake. You two had some trouble getting there, but I think you're both exactly where you're meant to be, with the person you're meant to be with." Oli smiled.

Tay dabbed her eyes and everyone took a drink. Shay was the first to wince. Oli coughed and Hannah laughed at him.

"Alex, this stuff is awful." Ashley laughed.

"Shut up, it's vintage." Alex replied.

"Now kiss." Kellin handed Vic his glass.

Jake shrugged and leaned down, kissing me. I gasped and kissed back. They all cheered loudly. We pulled apart, but Jake kept his arm round me.

"Hold on, I want a picture." Shay said, holding up her camera.

She stood a few metres away and held up the camera.

"Ok, smile." She grinned.

We both did and she snapped the photo. She walked over and showed it to us, smiling and dabbing at her eyes.

"I'm so happy for you." She whispered.

The rest of the week ticked by and on the final night, Alex and Vic set off some fireworks. Whilst the rest of them partied nearby, Jake and I sat on the sand.

The sky was clear tonight and the stars shone above our heads. I leaned back against his chest and smiled.

"So, we're exactly where we're meant to be?" I asked, and he rubbed my arm.

"Yeah, we are, except you should probably move in with me." He replied.

"Really?" I tilted my head to look at him.

"Yeah, the dogs will get pretty lonely without you," Jake smirked. "And I'd miss you too much."

I sighed and leaned back against him again and nodded. I really wanted to move in with him. I wanted for us to do so much together.

"I love you." I whispered.

"And I love you too." Jake replied, kissing my head.

We were exactly where we were meant to be and we were together, just like we were supposed to be.
