“No.” Andy said sharply.

Ashley and I shot each other a suspicious look.

“I mean don’t go alone. That bloody door handle thing is messed up.” Andy dumped some water onto the carpet as though it might burn a hole through the floor.

I looked at Ashley again.

“I could hear you talking in the hallway.” He rapped his knuckles against the wall. “Paper thin.” He smiled and stood up.

I grinned. “Time for an adventure.” I beamed.

“Do I smell coffee?” Andy stepped past Jinxx.

Jinxx stood in the doorway, propping Andy’s door open as each of us stepped by. He then stood in his own doorway while Andy, Ashley and I drank coffee.

Ashley started examining the back of Jinxx’s TV.

“Are you that worried about Jake?” I looked at Jinxx.

He waved me over with a finger and pointed down the hall. “Every 90 seconds that door opens and closes again.” He said quietly, as though he didn’t want the door to know.

“Oh yeah, that’s Jake’s old room.” Andy said. “Anna told him there was something wrong with the hinges.” He shook his head.

“Jake was supposed to be in my room.” Jinxx glared at Andy.

“You were passed out cold when he walked in so he let you sleep.” Andy nodded. “He probably should’ve awoken you.”

“There.” Ashley turned the TV on.

None of the channels were working. “Try 555.” Jinxx said. Nothing.

“Try 557.” Andy suggested.

A gray screen that looked like a surveillance camera showed up. I looked at Ashley. “I bet Jake walks by every five minutes.” He said.

“Have you looked inside Jake’s room?” Jinxx asked.

“Yeah, it’s normal, why?” Andy started at the TV.

“And there’s Jake.” Ashley said to the TV screen. Jake appeared on the screen the same way he had on Ashley’s TV.

“Did you see his room on the fourth floor?” Jinxx asked.

“No. I don’t like, follow him around and shit.” Andy shrugged.

Jinxx walked away.

Ashley and Andy stared at the screen.

I stood in the doorway in time to see Jake’s old room door snap shut as Jinxx reached for the handle. Jinxx looked at his phone and watched the time. After about thirty seconds of watching Jinxx watch his phone, I went up to Jake’s door and opened it with the key.
