So there are easier ways to get coffee at 3 in the morning and leaving the hotel should have been one of them.

It wasn’t.

The front desk was still unmanned, nobody was texting me back and the main entrance doors were locked from the outside.

I went back to the first room I’d slipped into and thought I might escape via the window but there were bars securing it shut from the inside. There had to be a fire exit somewhere.

On the other end of the hallway the stairwell led me to a steel fire door that was also locked, with a tiny vertical strip of window that was impossible to squeeze out of. I might break it regardless.

Now I was angry. I decided to try my luck on the third floor, I mean, how much worse could this get?
