Then write a list of targets
I headed toward the first room and slid the card in the door, waiting for the slight click of the lock and pushing it open. For a moment I cautiously stepped inside but I soon realized that if anybody was in that room as I stepped in slowly it would be pretty obvious I was breaking in. I drew myself up to full height, swung the key around my index finger and whistled as though it would seem like I were casually walking into the wrong room with no baggage at an unknown hour. Wait, what time was it?
The alarm clock next to one of the beds read 2:34. In the morning.
I stood staring at my lack of reflection in the bathroom mirror. I reached out and tapped the glass, it looked like a mirror. What the hell kind of artwork is this?
Peering down the hallway, I saw Ashley’s torn up bandana dangling from his belt loop as he sped away from me. “Ash!” I called out to no avail. I ran to catch up to him as he entered a stairwell. “Ashley!” My voice echoed throughout the concrete stairwell, I listened for his footsteps but heard nothing.
When I reached the second floor I ran up and down both hallways twice to be sure I hadn’t missed him, but he was already gone. “Didn’t you hear me calling you?” I texted Ashley. “I’m kinda lost.”
No response.
I checked three rooms casually for coffee makers and there was nothing. There wasn’t even a number for room service or a phone to call it with. Wherever I am, I’m not very impressed with the first two floors.
